Thanks for that.

Any other tips you guys have?

You can chop wood in the first town to make money. I did with my Imperial for four days in game and made a boatload of coin. After that I went hunting with a bow and arrow in the nearby woods to net animals hides to turn into leather, meat, and level up my sneak and archery skills. If nothing else archery is good for fighting dragons when they won't land.

I think, unlike Oblivion, you can stay with the quests longer in this game as opposed to just dungeon diving random dungeons. I'd roll with the main quest for a bit and then also work the Companions or College of Mages. So far also choosing a side in the stormcloak/imperial struggle has given me some decent quests.  I think you can go a logn way just off those 3 quests alone.

It will take the combined strength of the Imperial Provinces to kick the Thalmor out once and for all.

Even Tiber Septim didn't do that.

The high and ultra end game settings seem to be unoptimised, you have to tweak the ini files to get the best out of the game. You should be able to google for some settings, the tweaks have been fairly well documented by now.

We appear to have gotten a bad video card, so that will be our first step.  Then I'll open the game files.  Not so thrilled at that prospect.

BTW Brockololly, you've been beaten:  Behold the Cabbageborn!

Hahaha- if only there was a way to spawn a ton of gold coins so you could swim around in them like Scrooge McDuck

I'd recommend looking at the NeoGaf Skyrim PC thread if you're going to mess around with the .ini files as they've got a decent summary of things there. But there are some basic ones like turning off the mouse smoothing and acceleration which helps a little with the controls.

Hopefully the next patch improves performance. It seems the cities like Markarth and Whiterun (specifically looking out on the city from Dragonreach) murders people's framerates no matter what setup they have.

Good point, you need some form of missle attack or the dragons will be a huge PiTA because they fly, hover and then land far away from where you are. To me, overall, the dragons are not that tough of a monster as long as you get them one on one.

Oh one other thing, don't mess with the giants.

I think it's because Barbas is part of a quest, he just can't bloody die! That's my theory anyway. I was in the middle of his quest and ran into a few random enemies/dungeons while he was following me, and he was so awesome I kept him for a bit. I would have kept him for much longer but his pushing my character from behind got on my nerves... Still, if you want a strong companion, I think he wins. xD

DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT! Play the game til you are burnt out. Take it slowly. HAVE A LIFE! Go a day or two without playing it every week. It'll make playing the game all the more sweeter. That's seriously important.

I hate you, Valve. Why you break my LAA patch and force me to muck around with previous versions of my Skyrim.exe to make it work? Why you do this?

Useful but watch out or he'll push you off a mountain. Oh and he can't carry anything.

He wants to use the Voice, but dogs lack the blessing of Akatosh.

Thanks for the Tips.

I hear that there's a mine and a pick axe near some guardian stones at the start. Should I explore that? I've been told I should play up to the first dragon then free roam for a while before going back to the main quest. Thoughts?

I've seen the little images on the radar-thingy for the mines, and I heard you could use them, but how does that work? Anyone know?

Just keep walking toward it and you will "discover" it. Then you can always fast travel back if you want to tackle it later.

But I mean what do you do there? Is it just a dungeon where you kill all the monsters and it's cleared? Is there some way to mine so you get various metal ingots?

You can mine in mines yes, but whether or not its a dungeon with enemies just depends on the mine.

Also you don't get ingots, you get ore which you have to smelt into ingots, which then get used in various smithing recipes.
