Ah, okay. Yeah, I hadn't gone into any of those, and I was wondering what that Smelting thing was for. Thanks.

Thanks for the Tips.

I hear that there's a mine and a pick axe near some guardian stones at the start. Should I explore that? I've been told I should play up to the first dragon then free roam for a while before going back to the main quest. Thoughts?

Well, whether you wanna free-roam or not is up to you, but it's advicable to play towards the first dragon (scripted event in the main quest) before you start to free-roam. Why? Well, because only after this first scripted encounter with the dragon, the random dragon encounters start.

So if you don't play the main quest up to the first dragon, you won't find any other dragons in either.

I bought the house in Solitude. It's great. I like the automatic shelves to store books, the weapon racks, the cellar with the labs, etc. However, I decided to stay in Whiterun. The house is smaller, the storage is close together, the alchemy lab has a satchel, there are two smithies next door and a general store close nearby. In Solitude I have to walk a lot more and then it becomes a time sink. Nope. For now I am staying in Whiterun. It's also a fairly central location. And it doesn't feel as cold as many other locations. ;)

I wonder if I am the only one who rather lives in Whiterun than Solitude?

Solitude will be the last house I'll purchase and Whiterun will always be my main base! =)  Oh... met my first Falmer... at level 46!!! He was saying, in that language of his... "I'm a Biotic God... Great Wind..." I touched him with the tip of my finger and he died. hahaha

Nah, I free roamed until around level 19 before fighting my first Dragon. Would have hated it otherwise. Facing a Dragon at lower levels, like 4-10 and win? I'd say broken game. At 19 I was strong enough and the Dragon was stronger! hehe

As the master thief i set my "base" at Rİften. Got a nice small garden, got a nice balcony which me and Lydia can enjoy aura-boelises while tapping our wine.
And its 1 minute to work :) Love my guilds warm atmosphere(espcially Vex and Saphire...)
Damn thieves always getting caught and dying on streets, cleaning them off streets at night without alerting guards.

Thanks to my fences all around Skyrim im offically swimming in gold pool now.

Why is she in her default armor? Didn't you equipped her better? *sighs* I hate seeing her like that!

From a forum post which came up while I was searching for WTF is Sailor's Repose which I could not find after browsing the enormous amount of items in my near-full inventory: (had got the Sailor's Repose Added warning)

I didn't expect Bethesda would reward players who took the time to read through the journals and take in the tragedy at the lighthouse near Dawnstar. Just made an epic game more epic. :)

Totally makes up for the buggy as hell Blood on the Ice quest.

I agree!

Wow, god I wish I was as smart as you are and sooooooo superior too. STFU, it's a game. You aren't special because you play it.

Furthermore, while there are a bajillion ways to play playing as a character that doesn't do a #$%^ of crafting isn't one of them. I don't want to sneak, not a stealth guy.  I've done alchemy and used plenty of potions. Sadly clicking on flowers ins't a metric ton of fun but I get enough but never 30 at a time. I'm not even going to ask how many foozle plants you clock on per day. Shouts are, well, not as insanely useful as you say. I've got unrelenting force at level 2 and it does less than one would hope - it is like giving foes a nice rough shove. Terrain is a nice theory in the handful of places you can use it but 95% of fights won't use it.

The problem is that while in DA* I could use any build and succeed there are failing builds in Skyrim - a robed, magic using mage for example is lunch meat. Nothing like offering freedom but punishing the wrong sort of freedom. The crafting stuff is required because raw looting and buying aren't going to get you what you need to move up in levels and survive. That sucks and it is why I never want to see this stuff in the DA* games. Hell, FO3 or FNV didn't require the use of crafting skills at all to finish. There they were a help not a necessity - but I guess FO and DAO were both one dimensional games too.

So let me see if I understand your bizzare rant, here.

You're complaining because the game is too hard.   But after getting advice, you respond with:

1)I don't want to sneak.
2) I don't want to craft
3)I don't want to enchant
4) I don't want to knock people off cliffs, or down stairs, or into trapped corridors, or even into runes that I create.
5) I don't want to fully explore alchemy and  its nigh-endless medicinal, offensive, defensive and financial advantages.
6) My level 2 unrelenting force shout isn't impressive, and therefore, Shouts in general suck.

7)I should be able to get all the game's god-level gear  handed to me by just  looting the wolves and bandits I kill.  No no wait,  looting is boring.  Can't  the game just start me off with 1 million gold and  have merchants carry every powerful artifact  so I can   just go shopping, instead of having to earn everything  (yawn)??

Yeah,   I'll say it again.  This game is not for you.

The badassness of Tullius and Rikke alone is reason enough to join the Legion.

To beat the Thalmor, the Empire will need a new Numidium. And perhaps they will get one, if the Dwemer return. The Thalmor were able to destroy the Blades, remove the moons only to make Elsweyr defect from the Empire, the eruption of Red Mountain and the invasion of Morrowind by the Argonians... such a foe cannot be beaten by conventional means.

Not to mention, as Elves they have the advantage of time. Titus Mede is a strong Emperor, so they can just wait a few decades until he's dead and a weak Emperor emerges.

Well the game does sort of push you that way in the beginning. So not really surprised. I'll admit to following the Stormcloaks when fleeing, since the other side ordered my beheading. Once I learned a little more about the deeper story I found myself leaning a little more imperial. I'm finding it hard to back Ulfred once I learned he killed the previous king by using a shout in a duel.

I may change my mind again as I get further in, but right now it seems people aren't wrong when they say Ulfred only cares about being king and is just using the Talos thing as an excuse. I'm hoping there's something of a 'yes man' third option as I go, because it looks like I need to remove troublesome elements from both groups.

I think you'll be able to after she's not an essential character in the MQ anymore (no spoiler). I know for sure that I FUS RO DAH'd her off of High Hrothgar when

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

she told me to kill paarthurnax based on some stupid prejudice.

Cruel indeed. I'm ashamed to admit it was hilarious though. Music just fit in so well.

Note: not for the faint hearted.

Some people tend to blame the game for their own suckiness. While others may learn from what others suggest and actually become pretty good at that same game. I remember when I couldn't get past Howe's Lieutenent in DAO, Hard diff, my very first run. After seeking help in the forums and after a while playing it, I could kill a High Dragon in NM diff with a Two-handed Warrior in exactly 1min34s, including a few pauses during combat!

As I'm much more experience with TES games then I was when DAO was released, I didn't struggle that much with Skyrim. But after over 130 hrs into the game it really got into me.

I find myself hitting of my E key on my keyboard, or the Shout button key on my mouse during the cooldown of a shout, with the very same rythm of the starting drums of the game!  Tum------Tum-Tum!

Some people will call their wifes, hubbies or lovers, "My Thane" ... some say "Oh, a snowberry" when walking the streets in RL and see some bush fruits, like posted in this thread... some will shout "Fus-Ro-Da!" during an argument...

Some people will say the game sucks because they cannot beat it!

You don't understand it. Not a shocker. Lets try again: there is only one way to play this game and it involves using a strong crafting skill or skills. If I wanted to live on Destruction, Conjuration, Light Armor, One Handed, Speech, Lockpicking, Pickpocket ( a pretty diverse set of skills) that's not gonna fly.

Crafting is a necessary part of the game not an optinal part the way it was in FNV because the loot is inadequate and doesn't scale up quickly. I'd say in particular the punishment for being a mage not wearing armor and wearing robes and hoods is fearsome but a lot of that is a product of the woeful companion AI who can't protect you.

again, if you know how to game the TES system then things will be easier for you- and you clearly are godlike in your knowledge of the system - but for a game that promises so much open it has some clear boundaries.

1. I'm not a stealth character so sneaking isn't on the agenda, correct.
2. I do not want to craft, correct.
3. I do not want to enchant correct - the latter two being no different to me than saying I don't want to wear heavy armor. They are selectable and therefore optional skills. The game doesn't punish me, or shouldn't, not using 2H weapons or heavy armor for example.
4. Read again, I do use the environment but there are not that many places you can do that. Now you start adding runes and such which is pretty standard fare since all encounters I run are: long hall, room with baddies. Cast rune on doorway and backup while baddies run into runes.
5. Read again genius, I use alchemy and have a bevy of potions.
6. I didn't say shouts in general suck, the best shout I have is the leve l 2 unrelenting force and it does suck.
7. I do not want to buy the best gear, I do not want to make the best gear. Let me earn it doing the whole "hero of Skyrim" thing the game wants me to do not by being the Blacksmith of Skyrim.

Or self control. I once did something like this, several years back I couldn't do much one summer so I played C&C games the whole time. One day I was walking up to a drink Machine and it powered up, and I jumped back all hesitantly like and looked up to see if I was in range of an Obelisk of Light.....then it hit me...needless to say I stoped playing C&C for a good while, and as often.  Also GDI 4 life MOFO's!

Anyways what do you have to do to be able to buy a house? Serriously I've talked to everyone in all the towns (That is the leader and his side kick in each palace) And still short of white run and doing several quests in each town I still have no option to buy a home.
