After browsing around the internet I have discovered the majority of people are siding with the Stormcloaks.

Dissapointing.

I plan on crushing the Stormcloaks have no fear. :)

First thing first though I also plan on wiping out the thieves guild in Riften.

Anyways what do you have to do to be able to buy a house? Serriously I've talked to everyone in all the towns (That is the leader and his side kick in each palace) And still short of white run and doing several quests in each town I still have no option to buy a home.

Become a Thane in the town you want to buy a house in and you'll be able to buy one. Just following the main plot up to Whiterun will let you buy one there for 5k.

Yeah I got whitrun, and I have 40k in gold, so money is not an issue, and I have no outstanding bounties. So I'm not sure why I'm not able to own a house any place else.

Edit @ Jack.

Ah so basically  I need to find more quests. Joy.

You need to do the Jarls quest(s) he asks you to do then he will allow you to buy house. I think same probably applies to all major towns or city.

Yeah, like being "allowed" to buy a house in Markarth, takes completion of three quests from the Jarl, of which the last one is quite difficult. But the house is much nicer than Whiterun. Me, I still prefer the house in Whiterun though for many reasons others have listed above.

Some people will call their wifes, hubbies or lovers, "My Thane" ... some say "Oh, a snowberry" when walking the streets in RL and see some bush fruits, like posted in this thread... some will shout "Fus-Ro-Da!" during an argument...

By the Maker, Anyone who does that should seek help.

By the WHO??? :P

@Ken - You need to become a Thane of a City to purchase a house there, at least in those I've visited. Do some jobs for the people and the Jarl and you'll gain the title. Then you just need the money for the place and decoration.

You don't understand it. Not a shocker. Lets try again: there is only one way to play this game and it involves using a strong crafting skill or skills. If I wanted to live on Destruction, Conjuration, Light Armor, One Handed, Speech, Lockpicking, Pickpocket ( a pretty diverse set of skills) that's not gonna fly.

Really?

lets ask everyone else about that.

Question to anyone else here who decided to play a mage, or a light-armor, one handed, speech specializing character:  How's your game going?    Not flying?  Finding it hard to take out wolves in a hit or two?  Are bandits plowing through you like a hot knife through butter?  Are you dying in most encounters?

And you're dead wrong about crafting btw.  Aside from the Iron Dagger that the smith in Riverwood asked me to craft when I was level 1, I did not craft another item until  I was level 20 or so.  Still managed to destroy 2 dragons,  clear 24 dungeons, and become the Harbinger of the companions.  Perhaps you're doing something wrong.  perhaps you don't understand the subleties of this game.

You must really be avoiding the main plot at all costs. If you just follow up on the request from Riverwood to tell the Jarl about the dragon attack you'll qualify within minutes.

Nah I got that one I stoped at attacking/infiltrating the Embassy, right now I'm just doing die quests, just finished theives and DB. Stoped the champions as I don't want to be a werewolf >>

And I got the house in whiterun, I want the one in riften, I'm level...32 I think by now, but the leader there still has yet to give me and quests and I only have one side quests in that town and thats to find the quil, so not sure why shes not giving me nothing, her mage and assistant have till I did everything for them funny enough.

Use this to plan your character: http://skyrimcalculator.com/

Now, I don't see why the build wouldn't it work. You will find nice enchanted items and cool regular ones with better quality too. And you don't need to be a Smithy to improve items. You'll just suck at it. Same with Alchemy and Enchanting but a mage should really have one of those 2 well developed, shouldn't it?

Lockpicking is a totally unnecessary skill and a waste of hard earned perks. I have my Lockpicking skills at 80 now and no perks. Over 100 lockpicks and I can open Master locks in a few attempts. They have a tell.

And with Conjuration, your summons should handle everything. But still, your build doesn't seem much especialized. Thief/Mage? Of course a pure Thief or a pure Mage should be muchh more powerful but if you trade Lockpicking for Sneak, it might work, imho.

I don't have the Riften one yet, but I believe the main path to it involves running through the Thieves guild line. I think there's some alternate path involving the Skooma trade. I'll let you know once I get it. Its what I'm currently working on.

Mage is overpowered. With the Impact perk, ANY enemy gets staggered when you him them with a dual-wielded destruction spell and they can't do anything. One on one fights are a joke, even dragons. With enchanting, you eventually can cast destruction spells with 0 mana cost, meaning you can just spam fireballs or chain lightning (sorry, Lydia, really) endlessly.

Against groups, illusion/conjuration make things very easy as well, with 90 Illusion (very easy to get) you can mind control daedra, undead and automatons.

My mage doesn't wear armour as it's useless, due to robes giving mana regeneration plus Alteration perk that triples armour rating from Ironflesh when not wearing armour. Enemies also never get into melee range anyway.

The only times I've died was when an enemy mage suddenly appeared out of nowhere and spammed fireballs in my back.

Yes I have trouble. Bethesda decided that magic for everyone but our character would scale and be awesome. Your gimping yourself if your not crafting weapons and armor and at level 20 magic is fine but the more you level up the worse off you'll be as a Mage at level 50 seems Destruction stops being useful. Conjuration is great and I even leveled up to level 42 with mostly magic and played on Expert (second hardest right?) and then I came to one quest. Gather 4 journals from Arondil and at the end of the dungeon fight him. Bastard's spells were actually one shotting me! I used my ebony bow and some sneaking and managed to take him down. Magic needs a buff.

Crafting is a necessary part of the game not an optinal part the way it was in FNV because the loot is inadequate and doesn't scale up quickly. I'd say in particular the punishment for being a mage not wearing armor and wearing robes and hoods is fearsome but a lot of that is a product of the woeful companion AI who can't protect you.

You are wrong.

I have playing a pure non-magic user thief from the start. Havent improved or enchanted a single item  after the tutorialish quest. I only leveled it from the books.2-3 skillups. Nothing more.

Only cast 1 firebolt to enter Mages Guild questlne and 1 shield ward after. Only they have got the key i need so kinda need it.

Playing on master diff.as a dual dagger sneaky khajit thief, only using bows for dragons, giants. Solving quests with my honeytongue and slippy fingers.

There is 0 (read zero) need for crafting, i tried alchemy at begining of the game but  dropped it later due to having hundreds of potions/philters after pickpocketing/lockpicking.

Yeah you need to clear skoome trade for jarl. No guild involved tough i happen to help a liazrd who had side effects of skooma and then persuaded her to tell me the truth.
Then some necessary bloodshed
And there you Thane of Riften with Honeyaparts :) You need 8.000 gold .

Holy crap, I realized last night that I've logged over 100 hours into Skyrim, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

I have this annoying completionist tendency, so I have to stop at every single location I see on the map. I accept quests, forget who or what they're for, and spend a lot of time running around, trying to figure it out (and adding more quests), and have a lot of "squirrel!" moments.

I still haven't picked a side, but I'm leaning against the Stormcloaks - the conversation with Elisif about her dead husband pushed me in the other direction. Ulfric shouted him to death? Huh.

I just finally went up to see the Greybeards a day or two ago, and whoever said they increase all of your shouts...is a big meanie, because it's not true.

I still haven't switched companions. I keep saying I'm going to, but Lydia is still with me. I can't help myself, I just love her. I love her voice, I love how she looks, I love it that she can't climb up a set of steps without turning tail and trying to find a different, "more direct" route to something that's 5 feet away...she's just awesome.

What is my point? I don't have one. I've just realized that Skyrim has turned into an addiction for me. Is there an 800 number for this?

Indeed. And the beauty of it all is that you could totally replay this again, and make completely different choices throughout. I shudder to think how many hours I will end up putting into this first playthrough...let alone the second.

No you just have to do quests for the Jarl.  You don't have to touch anything dealing with the Thieves Guild.

BUT...if you've visited the cave where one of the missions takes place and cleared it already the game is bugged and you can't complete the quest.  I had to use the console and flag the quest complete and flag to the update of returning to the Jarl.

I just finished that quest line, and am considering going back to human. I'm assuming I still have the option? Anyway...my husband gives me flack for it, but I just don't ever change to a werewolf, so to me (for me), there's no point in being one.

Oh, Silver Hand, you delicious sacks of meat, you. At some point, I may have to start to wonder who is the villain in this scenario, and who are the good guys.

Later. Much later. Om nom nom.
