@BigEvil I was wondering that myself. I haven't chosen a side officially, either, but even if I clear a fort (and it says "cleared"), if I come back to it later, there are always respawned enemies occupying it. I'm wondering if it's just how the game works. It makes sense, really. Over time, bandits would probably catch wind of a place being vacant, and move their butts right in.

Yeah, that makes sense, one had bandits, another had Forsworn, so other groups coming in later makes sense. It just seemed odd to me since Greymoor was the first I found and cleared and seeing it get taken over by Imperials I thought the others would do the same. My plan was to clear these forts for the Imperials and Stormcloaks and use them as stopping off points when travelling to stop using fast travel so I can hopefully encounter more things while moving about rather than fast travelling to Whiterun and missing out.

Still, there's so much to do in this game I'll soon get distracted and do something else. I don't think I've been able to go and do a single quest without getting sidetracked along the way at least twice. And it keeps finding ways to surprise me and draw me in. The other day I saw the headless horseman ride past me when I was heading into Rorikstead. I simply turned and stared, then noticed a sabrecat just off the rode start chasing the headless horseman ghost.

I need Steel and Iron ingots. I hear you can mine the ores and turn them into ingots.

A few questions:
1) where is a smelter
2) where can I find mine(s) with the ore I need?
3) how long does it take for them to replenish?
4) do pick axes break?

btw, there is a one-handed perk that improves you're attack speed when dual wielding. does a spel in one hand and an axe in the other count as dual wielding?

i've never had a kill move that cut someones head of. can you only do that with a sword? (war axe user here)

You can only do it with a particular perk (Savage Strike IIRC), and only if you use a power attack. I've taken quite a few heads off since I picked that perk up - pretty glorious when some Orc comes running at you with a gigantic two-handed sword and you lop his head off before he can even take one swing.

so its lika an instant kill huh? i'm gonna have to look into that

But be warned for necromancers, you cannot revive headless corpses. So careful if you get the perk.

I'm about to buy that giant House in Solitude. It's gorgeous. Of course, I also plan on siding with the Stormcloaks. Hope those Solitude folks don't mind lol

Nice. I bet the view from the "porch" is nice, once the boxes are out of there. (I bought the Solitude house a couple of nights ago, for giggles, but re-loaded so I could go down a different path, and save my money). I did see that you could upgrade the porch, though. For $500, I think?

OK, so you can buy a house in Whiterun, Riften, Solitude, Windhelm, and where is the last place? There's 5, right?

Oh yeah, I had written up a reply and everything:

What do you want to know?

Here's some tips:

Alternate between M1 and M2, or RT and LT, when attacking
Hit both attack buttons at the same time to do an inward to outward sweep
Hold both attack buttons at the same time to execute Dual Wield's one and only Heavy Attack

It's slower or about the same pace to attack than one handed until you learn the first perk that increases how fast you swing when dual wielding by 20%
As for what qualifies for the speed perk: Any combination of one handed axes, swords, daggers occupying both hands.  I don't know if there are one handed hammers, but if there are, those count too.

Why is everyone saying that crafting is vital?

I'm playing a pure mage, no alchemy, smithing or enchanting and I can steamroll 90% of the enemies that the game throws at me.
Then again, I'm level 19 so maybe it'll get harder later on.

Essentially, you'll be forced to fight enemies which scale better than you (as a mage) and you'll need to craft and enchant a lot to make sure you're not overwhelmed and killed in one hit of anything. My first character was a mage on Master difficulty and it was fine until level 30~, which I realized other casters had become behemoths and I wasn't even tickling them anymore.

Even in the end with crafted armor and -100% destruction magicka cost, it was still brutal and I had to abuse the hell out of hit and run tactics.

Ah, but I'm playing on Adept. /lolhardcoregamers

This.  Plus there's also a shout that increases weapon speed.

So... I've heard that dead followers might show up during your wedding and ruin the ceremony due to a bug. I'm a little concerned because I killed Eola (and everyone else in the cult) towards the end of the cannibal quest, and she had followed me into the tomb to kill draugrs prior to that.

So, will her corpse pop up and spoil my day of celebration? Last thing I need is dead cannibals around to ruin the fun.

Yeh they get new occupants when cleared. There's some old lady in one that says just as much that one night she had orcs living there and she had hard time clearing up for them then next night was bandits etc. That she is used to the constant switching and they leave her alone to stay there and keep cleaning up.

Smelters are all over the place, but the closest one to the starting point is in whiterun up in the jarls castle, and so far I have never had a pickaxe break.

One question, there is only one Rorik in Skyrim, right? Just got ambushed by a group of hired thugs. Killed them, looted their bodies and found a contract that said to ''teach her a lesson or kill her because of thievery'' signed by a ''Rorik''. And yes, I pickpocket Roriks key to his house, bot nothing more.
In Rorikstead I talked to Rorik but there wasn't a dialogue option about the ambush or the note. However, broke into his house at night and beheaded him with the greatsword to teach him a lesson.

I unfortunately also had to get rid of the witnesses, two Whiterun guards and Roriks Tutor / Friend. Collateral damage.

I killed the right Rorik, I hope?

That note is part of the radiant AI thing. Lots of NPC's will call a hit on you if you steal from them and they find out.

Theres one right inside the gate into whiterun around the back of blacksmiths house right next to enterance.

Mines have ore but also all over world ore spots outside on ground and espcially around mountain areas.

Supposedly a week inside game time they replenshi however one of my friends says hers doesnt for some reason.

No pick axes broke in time I been using it.

A thanks, I usually don't loot other peoples stuff (money grows on trees in Skyrim) so this ambush was a first, so I did the right thing. Good to know. ^_^

So they know who stole their stuff even without any witnesses?

Because its kind of like using a gun in a swordfighting duel.

Yep, only one Rorik and the village is named after him. I don't think there is any dialogue relating to stealing and the consequences other than off-hand comments about sneak-theives.

I stole a bunch of items from the elf archer in Riverwood, mostly because I think he's creepy to be hitting on Camilla and he gives me **** then is still willing to take my gold to train me in archery. All he ever says is "you want to talk to me after everything you've done?" but he sent three thugs to jump me just inside the archway to Riverwood, and later on sent a Dark Brotherhood assassin to attack me on the road outside Whiterun. I suppose he really liked that hunting bow and those books I nicked.

Well, there are maces.  They certainly count, right?  I've been dual wielding a war axe and mace for a while now, and they seem to be faster after taking the perk.

BTW, wearing the smithing gauntlets allows you extend your weapon damage at the forge.  I was able to eek out about 20% more damage on my legendary weapons.  I'm told drinking an elixir of smithing will stack even on top of that, though I have yet to try it.  Another trip to the forge I suppose.  Speed AND damage.  There is no substitute.

It really depends on what Role are you Playing. I don't think Javier Barden is a psycho murderer but none would have played his role in No Country for Old Man better than him.

That guy might play an Angel Paladin next run. As long as he doesn't go doing that IRL, what's the problem? You should see what great RP'ers would do with a Mordor Orc in a LoTR based Permanent World in NWN. And they also had their good chars.

I used smithing gauntlets 20%, ring 15%, necklace 15%, and Blacksmith Elixer 50%, and it all stacked.

Then get the enchantment elixer and use the one hand weapon damage enchantment.  You can out it on two pieces of armor and jewelry.

Lots of crap you do in the game normally is creepy as hell. Especially if you use magic.

Cut someones head off and leave their naked body in your house? Creepy. Steal the souls of living creatures to fuel your magic? A.O.K! Murder A.O.K! Theft (keep in mind most people are very poor, and their personal objects are HEIRLOOMS for their children. Its a fuedal society people.) A.O.K!

I just finished the Dark Brotherhood questline. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but I do believe it's one of the best questlines the game has to offer.
