I suppose the Nords would prefer to keep their independence and fight with the Empire against the Thalmor as an ally and not a province.

Maybe given some lead time. But the internal infighting instigated by Ulfric is weakening both, and it doesn't look like Ulfric wants to treat with the empire anyway. Skyrim would end up with the Dominion on all sides eventually and wouldn't be able to resist.

Okay I'm meant to have skyrim today but it's actually coming tommorow. =(

Also I wanted to know, is there a level cap? My friend tells me he has a friend thats 87. I've read you can only go up to level 50.

No there's no level cap.  However, it takes a hell of a lot of skill advancement to go from level 50 to level 51.  I can't comprehend  how someone could have gotten to level 87 when the game's only been out for about  2 weeks.

The cap is essentially 81 thats apparently the level we would be at with every skill at 100.

Hmmm, it seems you can't buy property in ever hold. I actually like the serenity and peacefulness of Falkreath sitting in the trees in front of the mountains. Oh well.

Well, not quite, as Skyrim has ocean to the north and (at least by my understanding) a burned up, devastated Morrowind to the east. Add in the mountains as natural barriers plus the generally inhospitable environment and I think Skyrim would be pretty damn hard for the Thalmor to conquer. And thats assuming they're not facing resistance from any existing conquered lands while they try to take out Skyrim.

I just found out: it takes a Month in-game time for ore veins to replenish, not one week. So not worth it when you only have the location of one or two mines.

I found one for Iron and one for Ebony. The ebony one is in a town north east of Riften.

I found this link on Youtube, it has a few mine locations marked on the map. I used this page on the Elder Scrolls wiki and found a few others. I can mine about 60 iron ingots at a time once a month on Skryim time.

Thanks, I appreciate it.  I found it very helpful.

So the king accepted a duel from a guy who studied the thu'um thinking he wouldn't use it because of some sort of honor code?

I'm reminded of a scene from A Game of Thrones.   3:18  Image IPB

Hey, they didn't say the champion had to fight honorably.  And I actually like that fight.  They were expecting an honorable duel, but they didn't get one.  And that woman still coddling her son like that, I was ecstatic to see her champion lose.

Also, if she really wanted an honorable fight, she would have refused the Lannister's release after such a display.

I'll have to check it out, but I don't need Ebony yet. And I found out you need 2 Ebony Ore for 1 Ebony Ingot.

That's right, I tested it myself. I also found out that if you use console commands to set the skill values below 15, that you actually lose levels because from 1-15 the levels jump really quick and at 12 the level jumps from 12 to over 15 and apparently you don't get the same amount of 'points' to level that you do going from 15-16 instead of 12-17 I think it was.

If you want to test it for yourself, the command is Player.IncPCS <skill name>

All of the skill names are as they appear in the skill menu except for: Speechcraft (speech) and .Marksman (archery)

And you sided with the rebels that once they win will have the Empire to the South and Elves to the West?

Since the Empire is licking the Thalmor's boots, that's a moot question.

Exactly.

I decided I'm joining the rebels, and it's exactly for this reason. The Thalmor are a very serious threat.

I know how key segments of my story are going to fall into place. Once a captive slated for execution, Gammameggon started at the bottom with nothing. He eventually joined the Dark Brotherhood in an attempt to understand the darkest roots of Skyrim's underbelly while unravelling the mystery of my inner power and why the dragons have returned. Whispers of a dark threat, the Thalmer, also weigh on his mind.

Gammameggon is still questing with the Dark Brotherhood, but after will rise the ranks to become Arch Mage of Skyrim, and as Arch Mage and Dragonborn, and under guidance of the Greybeards, will personally lead the fight against the evil world-eater Alduin, and will furthermore lead in the front for the rebels against the threat from the Imperials / Dominion.

I will be the most powerful Wizard in the history of Skyrim, and I shall be the savior, holding the banner and leading the charge as an Arch Mage should.

South east of Winterhold... Gloom-something Mine (can't remember the exact name). There's also a Dwemer ruin to the south of it called Mzulft I think - the door to the ruins themselves is locked, but there's a "Dwemer Storehouse" just outside of it that has a ton of dwarven metal ingots, and pieces you can smelt into even more.

It's a good day to be a smith if you head to that general area, I tell you.

If you think the thalmor are that serious a threat the best way to combat them is clearly having a united empire.

Not really.

A united empire didn't defeat the Dominion during Tiber Septim's time.

An empire weakened at the time by the oblivion crisis and other events after that.

I thought that, too, but in Markarth I learned the Dominion is controlling the Imperials. It isn't the Imperials who don't want Talos worshipped, it is the Dominion. They hate mortals, and they hate the fact Skyrim is resisting. Talk to the Thalmer in the Hold in Markarth if you haven't, it might shed light in how i came to my conclusion.

No problem. Make sure you check out Halted Stream Mine north of White Run as well. It alone will double your supply of iron ore. It also has aTransmute spell tome that allows you to turn iron into silver and then silver into gold lying around.

The empire was being rebuilt. A united empire didn't make Alinor fall to the feet of men.

Tiber Septim used the Numidium on them.

The Empire was built on armistices and treaties.

Err... strengthening the rule of genocidal dictators is generally not a good idea in the long run, so I'm not sure how people are coming up with the argument that holding out against the Aldmeri Dominion is for the best.

Or are you people all playing as High Elves?

Argh! I just rang the local game shop and they say I may have to wait another couple of days before they get it!

While I have been waiting I have kinda got a character I want to make. A dark elf, Battle Mage. I'll wear light armour and have a sword and flame spell. I'll level up One handed, Destruction, Light armour, Lockpicking, sneak and blacksmithing. And I'll level up Stamina lots so I can get lots of loot to sell. I'll join the theives guild and The Dark brother hood(Have to join that!)

What do you guys think? Too much, should I narrow my skills?

Also one other question(Sorry for all these questions. I'm soo excited!)
How easily is it to get away with killing an NPC without being noticed by guards? I remember in Oblivion I'd kill someone and the guards all knew about it!

EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN A HOUSE!

You shouldn't level up stamina as a battlemage. Do a combination of health and magicka.

I think you can kill people in a private place and no one knows. I think.

And, perversely, your build is almost identical to mine, except I didn't actually plan it out and I'm an Imperial.

Yes, I think you should narrow the skills.  Lockpicking is useless.  There are plenty of lockpicks and you can still unlock most things even without a single perk.  If you level Stamina you'll be too weak to fight.  Health and Magicka.

Oh I agree- that was my point about Ulfric's duel.  I do respect the old high king for his courage.  Not that he had much choice.

Also, Bronn is my boy.

Well with a new video card, we can now run at Ultra High settings.  It's almost too much detail- hard to look at after a while.  There are sitll odd shadows and color distortions, but all in all it looks amazing and also with the new PC the sound is much sharper.  I'm hearing things I didn't before, like water rushing under a storm drain- fantastic detail.  The sound can scare me in dungeons!

Took a few screenshots to celebrate.

I'm not sure how you think the Empire can regroup and plan its defense with Thalmor spies crawling everywhere.  The minute they start to re-arm themselves, they'll provoke another attack.
