OMG! Finally, at level 47 I finished a quest I started at level 7!!! Tchau, Barbas!!! (And collected some 3-4 quest items on the way so I'll be completing a few miscellaneous too! =)
And Speech is a wonderful skill. I have to make it 100 asap! Only 3 levels to 50 and my Speech is still at 80. I haven't trained it once. After 50 it will become hard to train since it will become hard to level up so we gain 5 more training opportunities. Who do I talk to to train Speech? Is there a quest at the Bard's College before he can train me? Else I'll keep forging items and trading them because that raises speech too but it will be a pain.
As reference, I used to pay 400 septims for an Ebony Ingot. Now, if the trader is a female (like the smith's daughter in Whiterun), I pay only 160 septims. A bit more if they are male traders. And stores now buy anything I have and with a hell of a better price too. (Clavicus Vile's Mask with +20% and my Trader's amulet with +25% help a lot with that...hehe) I'm gonna be filthy rich!
On speech:
Your speech skill is high enough, you're way past the minimum for this:
Got to Riften. Go to the Meadery and talk to the dark elf at the counter. Ask him about the store owner and he will say nice things about her and a few options pop up: You can bribe him to tell you his real feelings about her, or choose the first option and he'll tell you how he really feels about her as well, the minimum is 25 and as I said, you are way past that.
Then you just repeat the conversation over and over again until you max it out. I already tested it myself, this conversation string does still repeat.

Of course there's more than one...I don't know where they are, but there's gotta be more than one.
There's one in Markarth. I don't remember his name because I was just talking to random people to see it they had quests to give. He had on a full set of leather armor, and he was in the market where the incident took place.
Edit: But he walked out of the area when I was done, so he may just walk around the city.

Depends. From what I've heard the Stormcloaks are extremely racist, so take that for what you will.
As opposed to the Thalmor, who are the TES equivalent of the Gestapo (Godwin's law, sorry folks
At least Ulfric doesn't haul people off for imprisonment and death just for not sharing his beliefs. He might not treat those of other races very highly, but he's far from the murderous dictator the Aldmeri Dominion is looking to be.

Does anyone know how to get the house in WIndhelm? I'm trying to speak to Ulfric about it but he doesn't give me any missions like the other Jarls and just tells me to join the Stormcloaks and I dont' wanna.
You have to do the Blood on the Ice missions (part 1 and 2) before you can buy a house in Windhelm. To start the quest, go to the cemetery inside the city limits. You sort of just "happen upon it". And be forewarned, the quest is somewhat bugged. You'll understand it once you go through it, I promise. I'm not going to spoil it.
I just bought the house in Markarth last night, and it's huge! I think it's my favorite so far. Only two left for me to buy out of five!

The Thalmor are the Gestapo indeed. The Stormcloaks are not the genocidal maniacs many percieve them as but they aren't so tolerant.greengoron89 wrote...

Mjoll the Lioness. Wow. I loved her voice, and was so excited to get married to her, that I waited a little while. Well, around 80 hours, to be honest. I kept talking to her every time I saw her in Riften, and thought, "wow, I love her voice. I'm going to marry that one". I noticed that other NPCs had the same voice, but no matter. I still thought it was smexy. I wanted to savor it. Every time i'd see her, I'd talk to her, about the same stuff, and finally went and got Grimsever for her a couple of days ago. I was a little scared to go there, since she was nearly killed there.
On a sidenote, I've spent over 100 hours with my sister-in-arms, Lydia. I knew that once I got Grimsever, I'd probably want to swap out Lydia for Mjoll, and would have to start thinking about the impending nuptials. So last night, my husband tells me I should just go for it. I relent, and let him watch the ceremony with me. It was beautiful. I removed our helmets, so we could see each other's face during the ceremony. Mjoll and I were married, and moved into my house in Riften. And she brought that twit Aerin along. Fine, fine, I don't mind. So I ask Mjoll to come adventure with me, leaving Aerin at home with my new housecarl with the weird eyes.
So we go into the first dungeon, and I'm impressed at Mjoll's stories along the way. "You pulled out Grimsever, and the bandit nearly peed himself? That's great, Mjoll. Impressive!", I kept thinking. Wow, this woman actually talks, and is deep. She warns me of Draugrs, and other things that go bump in the night, and I think that's pretty cool. By the second dungeon, I was thinking, "Yes, Mjoll, your mom taught you how to fight with a sword. Good for you." By the third dungeon, I wanted to slit her throat. Seriously, that woman never shuts up.
Today, when I get home from work, Mjoll is making me a home-cooked dinner, giving me the money from the shop, and getting released from fighting with me. She can stay at home with creepy Aerin and the creepy housecarl, who both watch you and Mjoll sleep. I will find myself a nice, able-bodied MAN to do some fighting with. Toodles, Mjoll.

I just have Windhelm left. I should have gotten Solitude last, it just goes downhill from there. If you haven' gotten Solitude yet, you're going to be one happy person when you finally get it

Enchanting is next, but I need more money and want to do some story related stuff. Grinding is not for me.
My lockpicking is increasing too. Sneak is 97. Three more to go for Shadow Warrior.

Yes it's not a bioware game but geez.Ppl in SKyrim have n otime to forge relationship and romance .. It's all about reproduction.
But female romances in Bioware games don't cook on demand!
I ask Mjoll to cook and I get food. I ask Morrigan to cook and I get poisoned.

But the Stormcloaks were being compared to the Imperials here, not the Thalmor. Cyrodil is a cosmopolitan community, quite tolerant from what I understand. Skyrim in large part isn't. They don't allow Khajiit and Redguards into the cities and in extreme cases as in Windhelm, the capital of the Stormcloak resistance, citizen Dark Eleves are harrassed without provocation on a daily basis. Some cities are more progressive though. I haven't been to all of them yet but racism is alive and well in the resistance. My character gets ridiculed and called an Imperial bastard by some old blueblood Stormcloak supporter in Riften all the time and I'm not even a member of the Imperial Army. Things will only worsen for non-Nords in Skyrim if Ulfric gets the throne.
The Stormcloaks are all about being "True Nords" and it's fine to be proud of your heritage and who you are as a people but if they aren't careful that will go hand in hand with rasicm.

Isn't it funny how easy it is to get the house in Solitude? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but it seemed like all you had to do was a FedEx delivery quest, and shazam, you could buy a house. I know there was more to it, but it felt like the easiest one.

Nords are supposed to be a laidback people who don't care about politics whatsoever and are happy when they have some mead to drink and a few skulls to crack. They also don't care about other races living in Skyrim, since after the glorious arse whopping Ysgramor and his 500 gave the Elves thousands of years ago, nobody dares to challenge a Nord anyway.

Yeah some are easier than others. I think that you should have to help people in every city. Riften and Markarth are pretty easy. You can get the one in Markarth before you even help the people lol.

You're right. This explanation really makes me believe Ulfric is using the ban of Talos as smokescreen to usurp the throne.

I've killed two dragons for Windhaven and have become the Leader of the Companions and still get told to "Watch it, sneak thief!" by the guards. I'm a Bosmer Elf archer. Racism is alive and well in Skyrim.

Yeah. I agree. Except for Fenris.Carmen_Willow wrote...
I just wish you could marry the wonderful bow action in Skyrim to the great companions of Dragon Age. Then I would be playing the perfect game. I am a Bosmer Elf Archer (talk about being put down while you're saving the world), and there is NOTHING sweeter than taking out six-seven bandits one shot at a time from stealth----except for having someone like Fenris to fight with. I really miss true companions.
