But, ultimately, who cares that the Greybeards think the thu'um should only be used for worship?  That is their philosophy, but (as I keep saying) the fact that the draugr lords use shouts in battle show that that used to be commonplace.

Ummm...no Nord wants to have their village thrown into the sea just because someone sneezed.

My glass armor, bow, Dragonbane katana and Mehrunes' Razor are now legendary. ;)

It's strange that I can upgrade that dagger with ebony, even though I cannot craft ebony gear. ;)

Pff... who needs the Nord? Just send the Redguard in. The Dominion got their asses handed to them in Hammerfell before and without the newly formed Empire the elves would have been conquered by them a long time ago.

Erm, the thalmor are currently pitting hammerfell against the empire. Neither are in any position to fight the thalmor at the moment.

?

The last time I checked the UESP it told me that Hammerfell is now a independent state, after they forced the Dominions army out and told the Empire to go to hell after it decided to give a part of Hammerfell to the Aldmer and outlawed the worship of Talos.

And that changes what I said how? The thalmor are purposely worsening relations between the empire and hammerfel. Once the empire falls, that makes the individual provinces that much easier to conquer. It won't matter how tough hammerfell, they will fall in time to the thalmor without aid. Although I suspect skyrim will be the first to fall.

The Redguard pushed the Dominion out ouf their country AFTER they told the empire to suck it. Seems to me like they're doing pretty well on their own.

Nukes aren't tradition based on worship.

The Nordic understanding of thu'um evolved when they couldn't cross into Morrowind. Jurgen Windcaller understood their limitations. The whole limitation is self-imposed and not by Imperial influence in the first place.

Different scenerio. Unless you are saying that everyone in skyrim has a nuke to assure mutual destruction?

Which is only because the thalmor are fighting a multifront war. Again, once the empire falls it is only a matter of time the other provinces do too. Everyone in thedas just seems to idiotic or prideful to see it.

The thalmor fight in the long term, even if they are idiotic when it comes to battle tactics. They have the time and patience to grind everyone to dust, and as it is ackowledged in the game without unity everyone will fall to the mer.

So?  All I'm saying is that there are different schools of thought on the matter and long have been- some who think the shouts should only be used for worship, and some who think you should use whatever power you have available to you to defeat your enemies.  Especially an implacable enemy like the Thalmor.

That's related but different to the idea that the Nords have become complacent because of the empire and are losing their traditions.  There are only a couple of men who even practice thu'um at all, for any reason.  Why is that?

Seeing how a Thalmor victory means ending the mortal plane, there won't be any beastfolk or elves left, either.

The elves believe they existed before Lorkhan's deceit. They want the next kalpa to be theirs alone, a return to the "imperishable spirit."

I know this. But a return to what was in the early Dawn will mean an end to all races and the mortal plane. It won't just mean "Men lose, Mer win", as is implied by the original post I quoted, as Men are descendent from the Ehlnofey just as Mer are and will also return to their previous Et'Ada form. They just don't see this as desireable.

Different schools of thought that don't necessarily mean they're equal in footing in Nordic tradition.

The martial tradition fell apart when Jurgen Windcaller swallowed the shouts of Seventeen Tongues, ultimately prevailing. The greatest masters of Thu'um have always been the Greybeards. This is not in-line with what Ulfric thinks is "tradition." Again, the whole thing is self-imposed.

The elves believe they were fallen gods in the first place. Not existing in their current form is a much better state than Lorkhan's iniquity.

I think we should clarify something about the duel with ulfric. Ulfric technically didn't use the thu'um to kill the high king, he used it to knock the king to the ground, and then executed him while he was down.

Still cowardly though.

Well I have no problem with that.  So I'll amend what I said earlier- he did go against the established tradition, but not without precedent in Nord tradition, either.

Also the fact that he started out studying to be a priest, basically, makes me think that raw ambition is not what makes him tick.  I can't remember the details but he said he felt he had to leave the monastery when there was trouble at home, and sounds like he's still torn about that.  The imprisonment in Markarth seems to have hardened him.

So the Empire was created by Talos who was a Nord, but only the Southern Part (Cyrodiil) is remained for the empire. I don't get it, Talos was a Septim named emperor. Why Nords want to worship him?

This is the quote I was originally responding to:

monkeycamoran wrote...

If the Thalmor win, there'll be no more men, period.

This quote is misleading because it makes it sound as if there will still be Elves and other such things, just not Men. This is untrue, because Men will also return to being Et'Ada when the Thalmor succeed. It's just that Men view their current, mortal existance as a good thing and will therefore resist the Thalmor's efforts at uncreating the world.

Because Talos is an aspect of Lorkhan, or Shor, the god responsible for the creation of the mortal world. Which also explains why the Elves outlaw his worship: they view the mortal plane as a prison which traps their immortal souls.

Angry Joe's review just came out...
It is his highest score and he has nothing but praise for it.
I find myself agreeing with pretty much everything he says.

The idea of them is what they're removing, purging men from the mythic and the Pattern of Possibility. The next age isn't merely a return to the spiritual plane. The et'Ada will never create the idea of men along with the mortal plane.

Now, this is the weirdest. Even more than that heads decorated shelves! They both have the same name or I'd call them twins.
