Male Dunmer thief. I have noticed quite a bit of unique dialog tailored to my race. Many Nords ask me "What is it, elf?" and I was attacked and chased across the entire hold of Falkreath by a gang of elf-haters when I was low level. 

Also got some interesting dialog from fellow dark elf follower Jenassa, as well as some of the NPCs living in the Dunmer ghetto in Windhelm. More recently I was challenged by an angry nord warrior lady in a tavern who insulted me because of my race and began full combat (not a tavern brawl but a fight to the death) when I objected.

The initial plan was to focus on sneak, alchemy, one-handed and pickpocketing, with a bit of smithing, for a dual wield character doing a lot of dagger backstabs.

However, you have to get those dragons to land somehow, and I found once I got the Eagle Eye + Steady Hand archery perks, it was a heck of a lot of fun, so I began using archery quite a bit as well.

Then just for kicks I tried blocking a bit with my shield and I learned how much fun it is to perform a shield bash, which staggers and interrupts enemy spell-casters and dragon-shouters. I think I might put a couple points into the Block skill.

The most amazing perks I've learned are Assassin's Blade, Steady Hand and Shadow Warrior. I have been able to open master locks just fine even at low levels without ever spending any perk points on lockpicking.

So far I have played over 160 hours and have barely completed about 30-40% of the Thieves' Guild questline and the first couple steps of the main quest, haven't touched any of the other faction questlines yet.

I think I will probably join the Legion during this playthrough and possibly the Dark Brotherhood, but I will save the College of Winterhold and Companions questlines for when I play as a mage or warrior.

Very nice. There's something about that steel armor...especially on a strong nord woman.  Mjoll is outfitted the same, and stats be damned, I really like it.  I'll just smith it and enchant it up to the highest level I can.  The only difference is she's wearing a steel horned helm.  Great shot.

Is there any way to buy a house in Windhelm without joining the Stormcloaks? It's the last thing I have left, I've even upgraded the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.

That's ebony.  I switch between Ancient Shrouded, Ebony and Ancient Nord so I don't get sick of one look

Nord! Since Morrowind. My real problem is that I fall in love with my build and char and when replaying a game I tend to remake that very char. At least with TES games. With Bioware's, since BG, it was easier for me to create different classes and chars.

Imperial Weapons Master (Dual swords). Just for fun I use some Archery. Rarely use any sort of magic, I use sneak and lockpick alot. Heavy Armor.

At level 19 I hardly killed a Frost Dragon by using a house as shelter and shooting Firebolt, Fire shout and Arrows.
It made me to turn a mountain for avoiding another F.Dragon (in an open area) to reach a mission.

Forge better armor.  No, seriously.  I have over 700 defense at about level 45 and it's made a huge difference.  It just would appear that eventually Dragonbone Plate would be required for me to continue on the path I am on.  But I only have it on the difficulty I do, in order to increase my Two Handed level faster.

Armor is a different story:  Armor actually goes up faster if you set the difficulty to Novice and put on the best armor you can and just let an enemy wail on you.  It goes up by the number of hits you've taken and not by how much damage an enemy's attack does.

Weapon skills are the same way, but increasing diffculty means more hits before an enemy dies.

The Amulet of Talos shows up in active effects as -20% shout cooldown. however, the Talos Shrine blessing shows up as -0% cooldown.

I thought it was perhaps disabled if you are wearing the Amulet of Talos at the same time, but I tried while wearing different amulets and it always shows up as -0% cooldown.

Apparently the blessing is 0.2% and it doesn't show the decimal so it only shows up as 0%, at least that is what my research tells me.  But that's like nothing, only -1 sec every 5 secs.

I've been using the Mara amulet, apparently I got it without realising and found out it is the same item you need to get married, I just had to talk to the redguard at the shrine.

I love how most of the time animals in the world will forget that they are hungry and attack a dragon when one comes.

I was in the middle of being attacked by two snow bears and a sabre-tooth cat when in pops a frost dragon full fury, spouting off and landing with a heavy thud behind me. The animals immediately gave up the attack and attacked the dragon while I sat back and watched. They ran right past me to the dragon, but the frost dragon made quick work...although they did do damage to it. I had a fun fight and killed it with two-tiered Mark of Death.

Not ten minutes later I'm further south and a Blood Dragon drops in...the closest dragon battle to each other I ever had to each other. I'm fighting it, running low on magicka and out of potions, running for my life when I see Spriggans. I thought they were going to help, but the a-holes started attacking me!!! I pulled out a staff and got rid of them while dodging dragon attacks and snaps of the jaws, putting on a magicka regeneration ring hoping to get my magicka up, shouting at it when I got a chance. After 20 minutes and a minuscule amount of health left my enemy fell and burned....and I took its freaking soul. Got the taproot out of those damned Spriggans, too.

Bah... I hate finding quest related places that I can't explore because I'm far from getting that quest. I did all the puzzles in Sky Haven Temple but apparently I need the quest to proceed. heh

There is no need to change difficulty for anything. Start with Master, stick with Master. It's easy enough and the best way to learn the most about the game. Just make sure to save a lot. Quick save all the time.

I have only 4 fixed saves, quick save and the auto saves. Level 54 now legitimately. A little exploit on speech but only because that stupid Bard in Solitude wouldn't open the dialogue to train me even after I got him his stupid drum!

I got the ethereal and fire breath shouts but not unlocked (saving souls)

Nord battle mage



I'm going to have trouble playing anything but this template.  I prefer spellsword to any other build, and love da Nords.  My first Oblivion character was a male Nord battle mage.  I'll try to play a Dunmer thief later, probably.

Today I noticed two Fallout New Vegas VA's in Skyrim- pretty sure Onmund, the Nord mage in the college, is voiced by Boone's VA, and the Dunmer you meet in Dawnstar for the Vaermina daedric quest is the voice of Joshua Graham.

yeh Keith Szarabajka voices all dunmer male voices.

yeh Keith Szarabajka voices all dunmer male voices.

Oh, does he?  I didn't notice before, and I'm good pals with the Dunmer merchant in Windhelm.  I'll be investing in him as soon as I get the perk.

Yes, potions, helms and trinkets.  They are fairly rare though.
