Been playing for 20-ish hours and other than fighting stragglers and finding a few camps I've seen nothing. Do you have to do the main quest to learn anything about them?

You need to go speak with Jarl Ulfric in Windhelm, or General Tullius in Solitude. Then you can begin the respective quests for the Stormcloaks or Empire.
I don't want to choose when I know NOTHING about either. Right now it's a flip a coin thing.

The only way to find anything out is to ask people what they think of the war, some background reading on the Great War (There's a book in Dragonsreach) and the Thalmor helps too. Information isn't force fed to you about the Civil War you have to seek it out and come to an opinion and both sides have their merits and flaws.

General Tullius sounds alot like Doc Mitchell from New Vegas, since we're talking VAs.
His VA is Micheal Hogan who was Saul Tigh from Battlestar Galactica. All he needs is an eyepatch and to bellow "THOSE FRACKING STORMCLOAKS!"

You have the option to join either faction and do their quests. Also, travel the road for a while. You'll come across remnants of the conflict. (Imperial guards escorting a stormcloak prisoner; Stormcloak camps containing people you can talk to; City/town/village jarls more than willing to tell you their side of the story etc.)Mi-Chan wrote...

I've read somewhere that the Jagged Crown and Joining the Stormcloaks quest can conflict with this one but I already finished the Jagged Crown and I joined the Empire not the Stormcloaks.

I did it for the extra +5% faster skill leveling over sleeping in a bed at an inn. I just need to buy a place so she'll move out of Aerin's house, god is he annoying.

I could swear I heard Moira Brown (Fallout 3) in the game, don't remember which NPC it was.
I also think Lydia = Sarah Lyons from Fallout 3.
No, she's nowhere in the voice credits. But Jason Marseden is, he voices the messenger, the bard in Riverwood, and tons of other NPCs.
Oh, and the voice actress for Moira Brown is nowhere in the credits either. I'm not sure they used any voices from Fallout 3.
Speaking of voice actors, I just found out Astrid is a dark brotherhood character and she is voiced by one of my all time favorite voice actors: Cindy Robinson
I'll have to go through the brotherhood soon now. I already picked up the quest to talk to the one person interested in it.

It's also funny that you're fighting "Fenris" all the time when you're fighting Imperials. Fenris found an Imperium he could cherish.
Re Moira, there is a Moira in the game, but she's really let herself go.

At least one of the Fallout 3 VA's is in the game- the guy who did the FO3 supermutants is in Skyrim voicing dremora and Sheogorath.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that Tullius has a secret mead or skooma problem

Just finished a very convenient fight with an Elder Dragon. I just came back from a quest and couldn't run because of its bones and scales. Because it was slain on my doorstep, I could just open the door and unload my stuff.

Stormcloaks are racist and Ulfrics a bad leader. The empire surrender to altmeri domenion and banned the worship of Talos.
Spoiler
Ulfric is also a sleeper agent for the Thalmor.

Not an agent - the Thalmor do consider him and his rebellion an unknowing asset to their overall plans to weaken and destroy the Empire, though. Whether Ulfric's rise to power will actually aid the Aldmeri Dominion or not remains to be seen.
This. It's only the Thalmor's opinion, not what will actually take place.

I think it's horrible, to be honest. The bonuses aren't that great, though I can imagine it'd be better for a stealth character, and having to feed all the time is incredibly annoying.

I highly doubt Ulfric, with his negative opinion towards elves, would ever cooperate with the Altmeri Dominion.

I have 3 characters going simultaneously.Eustacia wrote...
What race did everyone decide to play with?
Male axe+shield orc clad in heavy armour.
Male stealth focused Khajiit.
Male Imperial Necromancer.
I have no idea which one I'd call my 'main'. I did base the imperial off myself (hence why his battle tactics are summon something then hide) but I've invested more time in my other two characters, plus I prefer roleplaying orcs and khajits. I'll probably say the orc for the simple fact that a khajiit character doesn't really fit the setting.
