Yeah Lydia didn't seem to level with me, so I had to do the same thing.  I using Mjoll now.

I checked their stats, Lydia had 158 Health, 67 Stamina, and 26 Heavy armor.  Mjoll had 358 Health, 117 Stamina, 95 Heavy armor.

I wonder if it's a glitch or something.

I still need to go fetch that sword for Mjoll before I can use her. Otherwise, I may consider taking on a mercenary for a while.

A quick question for everyone - is Dragon armor worth it? I just got 100 smithing earlier (it was remarkably easy - I may build smithing up much, much earlier in the game in future playthroughs), and I'd like to know whether investing a precious perk point in it is a waste or not.

Otherwise, I'll just keep saving up ore and hearts for Daedric armor.

How about Revenge?

The damned Legion was going to execute my Orc for no  reason whatsoever in Helgen, and would have suceeded, had they not been forced to scamper away like  little chickens when Alduin flew in.
You don't roleplay that you actually committed a crime?
I do.  But I also roleplay a guy who knows the system, and my name was not on the docket of prisoners slated to be executed.   They discovered this fact on their own,  yet one of the smug faced Legionare captains  looked over and said:  "kill him anyway".

Yeah... that did it for me.  Had my arms not been bound to my back during the tutorial, I would have slaughtered the lot of them   before escaping and made Alduin's job a little easier.    Since then, though, I've been destroying  every legion soldier  I see on the road who's escorting bound prisoners.
So killing the Captain that was the only one pushing for your death wasn't enough for you?

No.  Not at all.  It's the entire system at fault.    Legion soldier(s) capture and bind you.  A Legion Captain orders your death,  A Legion Headsman stands ready to chop off your head as soon as he's given the order.       Again, if I had a weapon and unbound arms, I would have competed with Alduin to see who could Raze Helgen the fastest.  But because I didn't, I'll just side with the Stormcloaks.

Not unless you just like how it looks lol.  Daedric has better stats.  Only thing about Dragon is that it's pretty much free.  You have all the items needed to create and upgrade it from killing Dragons.

I don't like the look of Daedric though.  I put my set on my mannequin.  I like the Daedric weapons though, I duel wield the war axes, and use a Daedric bow, and I gave a two handed axe to Mjoll.

No it is not a glitch. Followers stats are initialised the first time you enter the area where they are.

For example if  you enter Riften for the first time at 8 lvl - Mjoll  the Lioness (and all other follower from Riften) will stay on 8 lvl for the rest of the game.

On PC you can fix that.

Dismiss your follower - Tell them that you don't need him anymore.
activate console, click on your follower and type
disable
then type
enable
and ask them to rejoin you.

That will set them to your current lvl. You can repeat that after few more lvls.

It is a glitch. If you use the console command disable / enable it levels her up.

This isn't a complicated moral issue.

Yeah, the Empire pretty much lost me the minute that damn Imperial Captain called for my execution despite not even being listed - she did it out of pure spite.

I like to RP that the only reason I was captured in the first place is simply because I was a Nord in Stormcloak territory - even though I had no ties to or knowledge of the Stormcloaks whatsoever. I'd just made my way into Skyrim from Morrowind, and happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time (and I was the "wrong" race).

It's a shame followers don't level with you. But how do you know all their stats? Is that another PC thing, or in the guide, or am I just unobservant?

The Imperial general/commander or whatever he is (forgotten his name) is also there and does nothing to stop it, seeing as he's more preoccupied with Ulfric, so that would add fuel to the flames.

Edit: General Tullius, there we go, I remember it now.

OMG thanks xkg & Eustacia. I did that an rechecked her.

Now she has 590 Health and 200 Stamina, and with the armor set I had her wearing she has 750 health, and 258 Stamina. 100 Heavy armor and 100 one handed lol.

Guess she's back in the group.

Have either of you encountered the book The Bear of Markarth? That certainly made me feel much less inclined to side with Ulfric.

Did you notice who wrote it?

I guess I could hardly call myself better than the Imperials who were going to chop off my head, to be fair. I encountered a Dunmer farmer on the road a while ago who said he was going to Solitude to join the Imperial Army - I pulled out my axe and cut him down where he stood, then pressed on to my destination with a load of regret weighing me down as I went.

So, an innocent man lay dead in the road simply for expressing an intent to join with my sworn enemies - and I laid at the headsman's block ready to die simply for being at the wrong place, at the wrong time. How am I better than the Imperial Captain? I'm not.

I guess it shows that there is no "right" or "wrong" in war - only life or death. Or as a certain fictional general once said, “The currency of war is life. We pay the cost and hope in the end it was worth it.”

Are there any reasons for joining Ulfric?

1) He has no honour (using Thu'um to either instakill or knock down the High King to get an easy kill)
2) Extrapolating from 1), he has no fighting skill
3) He has no charisma, judging from the speech against his henchmen
4) He is a Thalmor puppet, plus lacks the intelligence to realize he's a puppet
5) He is xenophobic and isolationist and lacks any strategic skill

It helps to understand the Norse mindset.  The Germanic kings were chosen by the people, but based on strength and ferocity.  This is exactly the model here.  So it doesn't matter if Ulfric didn't hold to some prissy standards of duel fighting.  Torygg was weak, an an Imperial puppet to boot.  He had to go.  Elisif also is weak.

2) does not follow from 1).

He has plenty of charisma- a lot of people admire him.  They're out dying for him.

How do you know he doesn't know what the Thalmor intend, and doesn't plan to let them succeed at it?  And how much better is it to openly lick the Thalmor's boots, as the Empire does?  That's so distasteful to me I'm not sure I'll ever be able to side with the Empire.

It's true he's xenophobic and needs to think more long-term.  He seems to be in the type of the general who does not make a good politician.  OTOH, Elisif doesn't even try.  She just lets the Imperials do it all for her.

To each his own, I guess? I let the Imperials and Stormcloaks "settle" their differences while I kill the true enemies of Skyrim, the Thalmor.
Then again, I should probably kill the Stormcloaks because they are the unknowing pawns of the Thalmor. In any case, DEATH TO THE THALMOR! Long live the Blades and the Dragonborne line, the true rulers of the Empire! :wizard:

I doubt the Empire really has that much choice about that 'invitation' though.

We all know that the Empire has no intention of being permanently controlled by the Thalmor. The Thalmor are there because they want to fuel the Rebellion into dividing the Empire and Skyrim, so that it will be easier to take Skyrim and the Imperial Province. The Stormcloaks may have an intent on fighting the Thalmor but they are labelled as being "A valuable asset" in the Thalmor's scheme.

I'm pretty sure Lydia did gained levels while travelling with me. At first she wouldn't wear any of Orcish gear I had crafted specially for her (I was 19 when I fought the first Dragon and was named Thane of Whiterun). Soon she started to wear everything Ebony I had crafted specially for her and my own Ebony Greatsword when I crafted upgraded versions. Of course, that affected her Carry Weight capacity and she wouldn't be much helpful for that end only.

Finally found the Lover Stone; very difficult to aquire. I kept drawing severa; major encounters, so I left the horse in a small village and took a trek on foot. Then when I was throwing distance away, I spotted a Cave bear resting in the area. Good thing I invested in ranged crits, or that would have gone the other way in a hurry.

The unintentional humor in the game slays me! While traveling near a tower, a dragon spots me and attacks. I dismount safely away from the action and fire from a distance. The out of nowhere, the action stops while a NPC fugitive runs up and gives me an axe, and tells me to hold it for him, or else. Really?!! Hello! Fighting a dragon, and he thinks he is intimidating? I hope Tommy Lee caught him, and I gave him the axe to use as a bonus.

P.S. Noticed dragons are quite intelligent when fighting my character; will often wait elsewhere if my vantage spot is too good. But that same dragon will then land and get stomped by a herd of Mastadons which happened to be in the area; the one I sprinted to after leaving my sniper's nest. :)

If an Elven Dominion rose and suddenly gained control of the empire you've been serving for years, would you allow that? By the way you're describing the Empire, they seem to be a bunch of sissies that WANT to be lapdogs in anyone's play so that they will abandon their beloved traditions.
And how do YOU know they aren't lying? Even if the Thalmor did say they don't want anyone to win, they want the Stormcloaks to cause Havoc as they gain more control.

I've noticed that overall, the enemies are smarter. Whenever I try to climb a spot they can't reach, they run out of my sight.

She's been with me since about level 8 - I'm 28 now- and while she started getting mauled regularly from about 12-15 her survivalbility has gotten pretty good so I'm not sure if she's scaling up or not. If the "on arrival" thing is true then my " go to every city to have markers to fast travel to" just turned out to be a really bad idea.
