Until Skyrim allows mounted combat, I'll never use a horse. Getting off the darn thing every time a wolf, mudcrap or whatever shows up is way too annoying.
On another note, has anyone run into a dragon which didn't give you a soul? Killed one earlier today, and I looted it, and. . . ., well, it just sat there . . . no fire, no lightshow, no soul . . . just sat there.
That can't be right, can it?
Had it happen twice. Thought I might be too full of souls but the next one did give a soul.
Yea, I killed another one later, and it gave me a soul . . .second one was a blood dragon, first was just a dragon . . . do dragons stop giving souls after a while or something?
Luckily, there are plenty of dragons, so one missing soul shouldn't be an issue . . . . i'm just wondering if it's a bug, glitch, or there's some gameplay reason?
It just happened to me. And I think it wasn't the first time. But I think it is because I'm killing a respawn not an original Dragon. First time I went to Ancient Ascent was around game hour 40 and it went ok, got the sould and word of power.
Now I had to pass through there to reach somewhere else for a quest and there was another Dragon. This is now hour 200 and the Dragon did not gave me its soul as well as there is no ****** there since I've already got it. hehe

I stopped using horses when I noticed I could sprint past rabbits and elks quite easily, and in full heavy armor.
But I have to admit they're funny to watch in their suicidal mode. I've once tried to unmount from a safe distance and then saw my ride gallop past me to confront a dragon. XD

Revisiting a nasty vampires lair can be very satisfying. First time I was randomly exploring the lands around level 10-15, can't remember, and the master vampire was a pain but doable. This time, at level 56, for a quest and a named master vampire, I'm much more experience with the game, even using skills that are not my main ones by far, like sneak, light armor and archery.
Plus, re-reading books like The Bear of Markarth now, after 200 hrs into the game and 154 days passed (game days in Stats screen), gave me a whole new perspective. Specially after having met the forsworn and their leader. Still can't make up my mind about which side I'd support though.
It's clear to me that some of the info I gathered at the Thalmor embassy may be a ruse. What is not clear is if the Empire will ever have the strength to confront the high elves, even if they keep control over Skyrim. The Empire is weak either way and might just continue to submit while Ulrich is a war criminal, if the recorded tales are true. But then, great nations were forged by awful crimes against their native population...

I suppose it's more polite than insulting your manhood or womanhood. lol
Ummm...it is an insult to your manhood.
I'm thinking of Macbeth when I hear that.
Found this funny location on the northern coast near Dawnstar. There are two flower-strewn beds, an amulet of Mara, some wine and two boiled sweets in suggestive placement. lolol

I love the northern coasts, BTW. So gorgeous.

Horses become extremely handy when you've just cleared a dungeon and you're overencumbered and you really want to fast travel to the other end of skyrim to unload your stuff. Without a horse, you're SOL in that situation (unless you enjoy walking really. really. slow....forever.) But with a Horse, you're good to go.
Exactly!!!!

The Forsworn are sympathetic in a sense. They are said to have been good rulers, and I have no doubt they suffered. But they seem to have become completely degenerate. Their camps are disgusting.RageGT wrote...

The Bear of Markarth was written by an Imperial scholar. I take it in the same vein as The Talos Mistake- an attempt to push out propaganda to justify their treaty with the Dominion by demonizing Ulfric.

Yeah the dragon not giving a soul thing is most likely a glitch, it has happened to me twice already.

Time to finish up the Stormcloak missions and take down Tullius, his lackeys, and their Thalmor puppet masters for good.

And that's about it on their usefulness, I think.
I remember playing LOTRO, and in that game there's a better sense of horses being faster and more convenient to wasting a perfectly good pair of ebony boots. That's what I was primarily expecting from horses; not just being pack mules (or their AI behaving as if it was coded by Leeroy Jenkins).
I'm gonna make myself a bag of holding.

Just saw this from Bethesda's forum.
The townsfolk call me "captain" because I used to be a sailor.
GOOD TO KNOW. I DIDN'T HEAR YOU THE FIRST FIFTEEN TIMES.
Aaahh... good times. XD

At this point I drop something heavy that I don't need and move on.

Hey, I've heard that you can somehow invest in shops. How exactly do you do this?
Its end of the speech star system. You can invest 500 g to a shopkeeper.
And he starts gain more each passing day. And they can alsa buy everything even stolen with right perks.
At the end of speech there is also +1000 gold for every trader in Skyrim.
Also you can became thieves guild master and have access some fences that have 4.000 gold.

I went to Whiterun to unload a bunch of stuff I get from dungeon delving and end up buying a dwarven weapon with an absorb magic enchantment. I go outside and a courier gives me a note from Calcelmo (sp?) in Markarth saying that he wants what the weapon for his research. I wanted the enchantment so I disenchantmented the sword figuring that he might give me a mission to get another one or something.
I eventually talk to Calcelmo and I still had the option of selling the sword that I destroyed (at one and a half times the value after a persuasion check

Does it unlock new dialog options or NPC banter?
Or is it limited exclusively to prices.

Um okay! I wish I had a taken the screenshot fast enough, but when I began the game a wolf murdered this poor bunny. So with my kind heart I resurrected it! And then slaughtered the wolf. The only thing is...the bunny was still in dead mode (so it was lying on the ground; on it's side, covered in blood) and glided off into the forest.

It only influences prices I'm afraid.

And that's about it on their usefulness, I think.
1) sprint faster and infinitely longer than you can on foot
2) they can jump higher than you can on foot
3) they can climb steeper mountain slopes than you can on foot
And an added bonus I noticed: For those of you who like to roleplay wildlife hunters.... Deer, elk, goats, and foxes do not run away from Horses. So if you're on a horse you can gallop right up to, say, a deer, then get off the horse and kill the deer before it even decides to move.
