The path you take has the same reward. Azura's Star is a rechargeable soul gem. The only difference from the black version is that you won't take "black" souls. All humanoid playable races have black souls. Unless you're playing the mad necromancer, it won't make much difference. There are still plenty Grand Souls to be taken from white soul bearers.

I'd like to travel with Illia again. She would make a nice wife. I have plenty houses to set us up and I wouldn't want to live in her tower with those harpies around! =)

Good to know, thanks!

I have not met Illia yet, dern it! I've been combing the countryside, looking for places I haven't been, and I haven't found her. I'm still amazed at how enormous the map is!

So has anyone else brought companions to become blades? Its actually pretty cool. Lydia, aelia, and breyna all became dragon hunters for me.

Apparently it works with any companion. Looks like its time to break the game with some console commands...

That sounds awesome. Right off the top of my head, I think I'll volunteer Lydia, Erik the Slayer (boy needs to prove himself), and probably my other housecarls as well.

You can only "donate" three followers at a time. Not sure if you can replace them if they die. However once you do it, you unlock dragon hunting missions where you meet your dragon hunters at the dragon sites themselves. Its pretty cool actually.

First time I saw my character do this I felt so cool.

Then I saw a piddly little common guard do it after I took off 99% of the dragons health.... I felt far less cool after seeing a common soldier do it

Yeah although you might end up at dragon sites you have already been, in which case you won't get a soul or a word of power, but the combat itself is still pretty awesome when you put together an awesome team.

The first person you donate even recites the oath for the blades, and your companions get a few extra "idle" dialogue where they talk about being blades.

Still, it sounds pretty cool.

The Greybeards told me about a shout location that I'd already been to, and it involved going into a super huge dungeon. I was surprised and pleased that it was actually a new word (and new enemies and new dungeon layout). I wasn't expecting any of that, so honestly, going to the same *same* location is ok in my book.

Between the Blades, the Dragon Priests, and the miscellaneous guild quest lines...WOW. This game continues to amaze. I haven't even started the civil war quest line yet!

Over 200 hrs now. Still haven't met everyone or found every location. And I just love how after this long, I can still jump/climb some mountain and end up in another ****** location with the boss and then go kinda backwards to the actual entrance of the place, for the loot, RP and satisfaction of being allowed to do that.

That's a lot of freedom and honestly, it makes a great game even greater!

Ah something else I didn't mention. Although you are "donating" these companions to the blades, you can still ask them to follow you around. The only difference is that they wear blades armor and carry around a katana. (which they may or may not use depending on what else they have.)

I'd be lying if I said this game wasn't a bit overwhelming at times - the sheer amount of content at your disposal in the game can be hard to manage. Every time I turn around, I'm on a new quest for a new character going to a new location to do new things and fight new enemies who drop new equipment and guard new treasures.

It's pretty remarkable, really - Bethesda have really outdone themselves this time.

Akavari Katana? Image IPB Loved those in Oblivion.

So I'm guessing you'd probably want mostly warrior types, with an archer or two mixed in, right? Do mages work well in the Blades? I mean...they don't call it "The Staves", but it seems as though they could still have a purpose.

Yeah mages work fine. They still wear the armor, but when I donated breylna she uses her magic and a staff to to fight. So lydia and aelia shot arrows, while breylna lobbed fireballs and conjured atronachs to help fight.

Really anyone will work just fine.

I find the Blades rather pathetic, to be honest. I want nothing to do with them. Not to mention I'm sure I already cleared all dragon lairs on my own.

That animation never works properly for me. My character always ends up floating half a meter to the side of the dragon and stabbing the air.

Why? Companions that are on a comparable level to your own can fight pretty well really. Mjoll who scaled with me, can kick my ass and I have 100 in heavy armor skill.

but hey to each their own.

Time to volunteer Mjoll. I married her, just so I could feel like I earned the Marriage achievement, I had got it already from the CAQS command. I was curious, I didn't think it'd actually work or give me the achievements.

I have no idea what happens if you use the person you are married to, although I assume it won't change anything save that the temple will be her new home.

I haven't seen this from anyone other than my character. I don't know if I'm happy about that, or sad.

Oh yeah, how does sneak attacks with a bow work? You pull a knife from the dimensional pocket and use it?

I believe you just have to be "hidden" (in sneak mode, with the eye closed) for it to be a sneak attack, whether it's with a bow, blade, etc....or was that a trick question, and I missed it? I can be pretty daft at times. Image IPB

..You shoot them. With an arrow.

Though I suppose you mean something else.

Yea, thir glory days are over.
Personally I started to hate the blades after they ordered me to kill Paarthurnax. Never!
