Nah, for me it's the cash . . I enchant rarely, blacksmith the same. My PC is a warrior, not a blacksmith, not an enchanter.

^and not equipped with the best gear he could be equipped with. But to each his own.

Well, Warrior, Good luck finding  or buying a Daedric greatsword that does +30 fire damage AND increases your 2-handed  damage by 25%

It's not about that for me.  I like a challenge.  I'm just fine with my superior steel plate armor, etc.  The only thing I enchanted was some gloves and boots for carrying capacity before I learned you can increase that by leveling stamina.

I've got me a nice enchanted sword I found - or killed someone for, don't remember which gave me Dawnstar - and just picked up a nice Ebony blade, have a few enchanted bows and war-axes and such . . . all looted.

The way I see it, my guy's a warrior.  Sure, he can patch his gear, maybe customize it so it's a little better than stock . . .he dabbles with alchemy, but basically, I have a chest full of ingredients I hardly use, and most everything I craft I sell.

Haven't found an enemy I couldn't kill yet.

LOL there's always ONE. There's always someone who's happy with the generic crap that a game hands you.

And I haven't found an enemy I couldn't kill in 4 hits or less.

Yup, and there's always someone who just can't be bothered to get through a game without powerleveling themselves into god mode by level 4.

Shouldn't be possible if the game was properly balanced.

So what does eveyone's character look like? I've only made two that I'm satisfied with.

After playing around with the CC and various mods I've finally arrived at the "perfect" point for my Breton Battlemage Pierelle. I'm quite happy with the way she looks in and out of combat.

*snip*

Pierelle looks very sweet, innocent even. For RP purposes it must be really interesting she turned out to be an All-Time Powerful Dragon Slayer. And how did you come with her name? I haven't heard that before.

It isn't. Unless he's using Console Commands. hehe

And there's always some masoquists who loves to suffer way more than needed. Even with top gear, improved as only a Master Smithy could (100 skill,  3x+25% items, +50%Elixir) and enchanted as only a Master Enchanter could (100 skill, +25% Elixir) there are still things that can kill you pretty fast too.

I restricted myself to using Ebony items only but I gave Mjoll a nice Daedric set and the difference is not significant at all. Plus she looks an ugly daedra now! And my Ebony Greatsword, improved with the items plus Elixir deals more damage than a Daedric Greatsword improved with the items and a+40% Philter. So, the Elixir (which is damn rare, I'm still looking for another one) is a must to make daedric any better than Ebony.

If you are on PC and if you want to improve how the Skyrim looks, you may want to take a look at this.

I just realised Boethiah's voice actress is the same as Meredith's.

And I'm loving my new ebony mail now, sneaking and heavy armor has never been so good.

What mods are you using so far? I've taken a bit of a break from Skyrim for the past week or so and am going to put on some mods- probably after the patch comes out Wednesday at least.

Wow.

After 200 hours, I have only now discovered that there is such a thing as faction disguises in this game.

I'm a level 33 and I just logged my first dragon kill with just axe and shield (well, except for the first, but the guards brought him down), complete with killing blow cutscene. Very impressed! I've taken down nearly every dragon with a bow until now. I just needed a small amount ot XP for one-handed and blocking to level, so I used the opportunity. This game is fantastic!

I used to be a great dragonslayer like you.... but then I took an arrow to the knee...

Wait you mean it is wrong to role play a particular way in Skyrim with all that feedom?  I thought you said you didn't have to do all that crafting stuff - it was BS I think was your term. Now, when someone doesn't want to do it they're wrong. I love it. You are precious in your raw arrogance that you play a game.

Like the crafting "game" isn't as generic as it gets. Lazy and easy and at the same time boring as hell.

I agree. It's not a must. I would gladly play only with what I can find in the game. But in one thing you're wrong. Smithing is not boring at all. It is addictive. I don't do it for the skill increase. It's already at 100. But I can't see a mine that I HAVE TO go prospecting and then smelting and then mixing ingots to make steel or just pure ingots and then crafting and then enchanting and then equipping my companions or just storing them inside the chests in my houses!

It is my profession! In Risen, I used to do the same thing. The difference is that there was no enchanting. But with gold smithing training we could make jewelry which had already enchanted properties. I would keep forging Obsidian Two Handed swords (best one in the game) for the sake of it and I could only use one. It was much more work than in Skyrim. We had to heat the metal, hammer it, put it in the water and then hone it in the whetstone. And it is a hell of a fun!

PS.: LOL at Daedric worshippers. The ONLY Daedric item that is better than Ebony (after improving them) is the Armor. Boots, Gautlets and Helmets have the same AC. And the Ebony Greatsword is even better. Mine does 376 dmg (with my +% Two Handed gear) against 330 dmg of the Daedric Greatsword. I've wasted a perk but since I'm playing the best Nord Smith around, I bought the Scale, Glass and Dragon perks as well... *sighs*  Good thing that I had lots of perks available because past level 50 there wasn't much point in spending them with anything else.

..and whatever sickness you have that finds that entertaining I will never know - but to each their own. I mean would you play Skyrim the smithing simulator? I can sorta see alchemy being "fun" because there is some "skill" in figuring out a recipe the first time. Smithing and enchanting is just selecting menu items and it isn't different to me than selling items.

My problem is that you can't function very well without the skills like you could without sneak or restoration because looting and buying simply don't give you access to quality upgrades. Sans any sort of crafting Lydia is just now in Orcish armor at level 28 and my mage is still rolling in Eleven Armor that I had to smith up to fine and then enchant so my mage can still cast spells. That Elven armor has been on me for about 10 levels now.

In the end I play games to feel heroic. Beowulf, Roland, Aragorn, Arthur and that lot didn't do a lot of manual labor. I don't want to be a smith - I build stuff in real life. Heck, I don't even like Bioware's approach of allowing me to buy the best gear. I want to earn it hip deep in the blood of my foes and torn from their cold dead hands....but maybe I'm just dramatic that way. Still, while all games have limits to freedom - I'm not sure you could actually play FONV w/o some sort of combat skill as long as you have one combat skill you can use any mix of other skills you want to win - it seems like the crafting necessity is too high in this game.

To me the game is a mile wide and not nearly as deep. Combat is simplistic, enemy/NPC AI is terrible, encounter design is *meh* at best (it is another room off a hall with one enemy), dungeons are long and repetitive and as always the massive sprawl of the world and quests sucks me away from the story and actual engagement with the world in favor of grinding dungeons.

There are a lot of strengths to what Bethesda does that keep me in this despite those issues. The world feels real in design and the urban spaces are excellent after the crap of DA2's city. The level scaling has gotten better. The tweaks to the character progression system are fantastic and stealing perks from SPECIAL works well. The VA is light years ahead of Oblviion and the conversation animations are a god send compared to Oblivion. The art work in general is wonderful - again Bioware take note that you don't need stupid looking anime weapons in a game.

Well...if my in-game performance is any indicator, it was probably me that shot you.  I hit Mjoll more than I hit dragons.

BTW, companion equipment what logic is used to determine what they equip. I've got Lydia. She has a sword and shield so I figure her for a one handed type and give her a sword and shield (although she will only use her shield for some reason not whatever I give her). Things are peachy. She has issues where she intermittently pulls out a bow at odd times but whatever. Then I dump a 2 handed sword on her to mule around and she immediately equips it. The sword did more damage then her one handed weapon but is that the only question. Even more odd I gave her a pair of staffs to also mule about and she decided to dual wield those items for one of the odder looks in the game.

Do the NPC's have actual skills behind the scenes and if so does that play into their weapon selection?
