This is a school for magic. Shouldn't we actually have some Mage role-play which revolves around casting spells and doing Mage-esque activities? Tolfdir's wards lesson was a great start. They should have capitalized on that even more.

Not at all, but as I said I want the quests linked to my progression through the guild. I liked the 90+ conjuration questline, it was very enjoyable, but my point remains: when does the College expect you to demonstrate Mastery of Magic in the questline? That to me is what being a Wizard is about.
I don't even mind the dungeon crawls, but they should find a method of increasing the emphasis on Mage skills for player characters who are interested in the College of Winterhold. In terms of content, is there much to differentiate the College of Winterhold from the Companions, for example? This was also a problem in Oblivion, and (to a lesser extent) Morrowind as well.

I want role-playing concepts. Emergent narrative has limitations which I'd like to see reduced, if not removed completely. One of those is the lack of reactivity in the game world, which Bethesda has been on and off with in providing. If a concept results in a contradiction in role-playing, then yes the devs should be telling me what path to take, since I'm taking an action not consistent with the game world. I joined a Wizard University, ergo there should be some sort of Wizarding expectations. That is reactivity in the game world.
You do have Wizarding expectations with the "Master" level quests from the College of Winterhold, and the dialogue with the professors gives the impression that the professors have been teaching the protagonist magic "between the panels."
Speaking of which, I wonder why the Master level restoration spells aren't avaliable, and if there's a Master Restoration quest that's not avaliable because it's bugged.
I admit that it was weird to complete the College of Winterhold MQ the first time, because I was an assassin and I didn't really know magic. I made a mage for my second run, learned magic, and I felt that the Master level quests give a better feel for the protagonist being a "proper" mage, instead of someone who can enter the College with no real magical experience by simply demonstrating a Shout.Il Divo wrote...
The College of Winterhold is a perfect example. Anyone can complete it, and as a result I am not a Wizard for having finished the quest-line because it did not require any activities expected of a Wizard. Becoming Arch-Mage can be summed up in "Go to this dungeon, kill this guy", which anyone can do. Beyond Tolfdir's lesson, at what point in the College of Winterhold quest-line can it be said that I filled the role of a Wizard?

Of the ones I have experienced, I am enjoying tte Master level quests. Storm Thrall? Sign me up!

I actually followed a similar pattern. My first character possessed a 60 in Restoration, but besides that it felt very off-beat as a Ranger. Personally, I would have loved if the Master level quests had been tied to your ability to lay claim to the Arch-Mage title. At the least, it would have increased the feeling that I was chosen as Arch-Mage for my magical abilities.

I'm aiming to get all the Dragon Priest masks for this run, they look interesting (although they seem to have a problem with making the protagonist's face disappear at times).
But there's got to be something awesome that happens when you get all of them! I can't wait! For those of you who know, please don't spoil it for us!
I mostly just store the masks in a crate in my house, because my Breton is adorable, and I like to see her face.
I'm sure dealing with all of the Dragon Priests will be a challenge - on my first run I dealt with Morokei, the Priest you face towards the end of the College MQ at the Labyrinthian, and Nahkriin, the Priest at Skuldafn (who has Draugr all over the place) when going to face Alduin. Typically play from first-person view, so I don't usually see my Dunmer's face - usually wears a mage hood anyway, although I'm surprised none of the Dunmer comment on the 'Tribunal' warpaint he has. I'll probably have a Dunmer mage wear the mask of Morokei, so I'm going to wear it with my Archmage robes.

Depends on your light armor skill. Personally, I think it's the ugliest armor ever made.
I have my light armor skill maxed out, and for my character (who has fairly low heavy armor skill), glass is better than ebony.

I've enjoyed them, too. All I have left to handle is Master Alteration. The quests make me feel like my protagonist has earned some genuine respect among his peers at the College as a master of the arcane arts.

My assassin had no real skills in magic, so I felt a little ridiculous being in the College (especially since I used Dragon Shout to enter in the first place), but the Psijic Order made me curious about where it was going. I think it would have been a good idea to merge it into the MQ as well, because the Master level quests completely changed how I felt towards the College MQ as a whole, and I treat them as mandatory tasks that need to be completed before further investigating the College MQ.

220 hours into the game and I haven't set foot inside the College of Winterhold. Been in the city a while ago but nothing attracted me there. Perhaps later I'll go there to become arch-mage or just kill them all!

What??? But J'Zargo is in there! You've got to spare him, at least! There are few enough Khajit in Skyrim as it is.
I think the mage questline is probably the weakest, comparatively. I much preferred the Thieves Guild, or even the Companions quests to that. Haven't done the Dark Brotherhood yet. I did like the Psijic spin in the mage quest, but it felt kind of unfinished, or too easily accomplished.

I initally felt that the MQ for the College of Winterhold was weak, too, when I went through it as an amoral assassin with virtually no magical ability (which happened because I tried it out, initially, and was curious about where the "mystery" would lead to). It felt different going through it with my recent run as a mage, where I (mainly) used destruction and conjuration on a regular basis to deal with enemies. I kept myself from using one or two handed weapons, and focused on magical attacks. Being a mage gave the College of Winterhold MQ a different flavor, and I think it's much better when you factor in the "Master" quests that are provided when your protagonist levels Conjuration, Destruction, and Alteration to high levels, respectively. I found the College of Winterhold MQ much more enjoyable.
Going through the "Forbidden Legend" quest as a mage was fun, too.

Yeah, I'm looking at pictures of it now - and I'm not impressed. It's worse than it was in Oblivion IMHO.
The Glass armor in Morrowind was so much cooler looking, as was the Daedric (though Daedric doesn't look too bad in this one).
I like the look of Ebony best overall - I can upgrade it to the max armor rating pretty easily thanks to a special ring, so it's just as strong as Daedric.
Oh, and BTW - Dragonplate armor looks HORRIBLE. It's the ugliest armor in the game, bar none. I'll never waste a perk on it again (unless I go Light Armor next game).

Good to know. My favorite so far is the Nightingale armor. Now that I have that, I've lost my will/need to smith. I got up to ebony level, so my follower will just have to be happy with that. I put Mjoll in the ebony armor, and was surprised at how big her ta-tas looked in it. Shazam!
Edit: I just looked up the Morrowind glass armor. It looks like a spriggan!

I made a set of Daedric and wore it for a while, but now I'm starting to regret it. I had to buy the hearts to make it, and they were almost 1000 gold a pop - plus, the armor looks a bit too "frightening" to me, and it doesn't feel right walking around towns wearing it. You'd think people would be scared of me, or might even attack me thinking I'm a Dremora or something, but it doesn't elicit any kind of negative response (or any response at all for that matter).
I have 10 Daedra hearts sitting in a chest. I got four of them from the Mehrunes Dagon shrine alone, from doing the Mythic Dawn/Mehrunes Razor quest. I got two initially, then went back and picked up another two later, just by showing up and getting attacked by Daedra. 1000 septims each is outrageous!

What? I paid some 400 maximum for a heart. (aw well, I'm a master trader! hehe) I had 11 when I craft a set for my companion. I only use Ebony myself and it's pretty good. Now, Glass was only really beautiful in Oblivion and with the Black Glass Armor mod. The green is awful!
