Skyrim is a amazing game but there is something seriously wrong with it. The dragons in this game are more likely to run away from you then a deer. When somebody tells you "I can't beat a dragon" in other games , it is normally because of a tough fight etc. But in Skyrim it because the bloody thing keeps buggering off! They don't attack you. All they do is roar, fly around in circles, roar again and then fly away. Not only that but they run away from you! In my last encounter I spent a good half-hour chasing the damn thing. In the end I got bored and walked away.I've only killed three dragons in this game and two of them were quest related, the other was high up in the mountains so there was not enough 'room' for the thing to fly away. This is probably the only game in history where the dragon runs away from the player. I have taken more damage from mudcrabs then dragons. It's just not right, not right at all.

the Dovakiin is the only one that can actually KILL a dragon. i think its a cool  little gimickthat some of the dragons are scared off by that factImage IPB

Not true.  I think someone in the thread talked about being in a tavern and suddenly absorbing a dragon soul because guards outside had killed the dragon.

They'll come attack you a) if you hit them with a projectile, B) there's a place for them to land.  Basically, they're not that into you.  Not until you hurt them.  They're more about pillaging the countryside.  Once people start landing hits on them, that's when they swoop in on the guilty parties, whether that's you, your companion or the goodfolk.

If they fly away, let them go and move on.  You'll have plenty of opportunities.

But it's still the Dovahkiin absorbing the soul. Nobody else can absorb the soul of dragons to 'kill' them permanently.

My male Nord warrior is named Gormr Fire-Heart - I spent quite a bit of time looking at Old Norse and Scandinavian words and names before I settled on it. It's an authentic Nord name, and I think it fits the character quite nicely.

Nice.  My character is named Veleda Bructeris.

Veleda was an unmarried woman who enjoyed wide influence over the tribe of the Bructeri. The Germans traditionally regard many of the female sex as prophetic, and indeed, by an excess of superstition, as divine.
This was a case in point. Veleda's prestige stood high, for she had foretold the German successes and the extermination of the legions.

-Tacitus, Histories 4.6

This is a drawing of the real Veleda.

I didn't try to match anything except the dark hair.

Yes there are spells you can use to make foes fight but that's not horribly useful when most of the time there are single foes in a room AND of course you need those spells.

Summoned critters are nifty but again at the low to mid level they are not all that powerful - familars and flame atronarchs are hardly devestating. Toss in that foes will ignore the summon to attack the mage and they're grossly imperfect shields and then even worse they follow you so short of, once again, abusing the system by casting them over and over again they'll often not even be in a fight with you.

Dude.  You are starting to sound whiny.  It is not "abusing the system" to cast an atronach again if one dies.  That's what conjurers do.  Are you taking a companion to use as a meat shield?  If you're playing a pure mage, you're going to have to adjust a bit.  That's the bottom line.  If you're struggling on a particular build, adjust your strategy, face the fact you screwed up on your leveling, and/or put down the difficulty level until you get something that suits your game.

Someone needs to make Snorri Sturluson the Nord poet/politician.

So I figured I'd finally throw up a photo of my Redguard. He's currently specializing in two-handed combat and heavy armor with some points scattered across the board otherwise. Just a few points away from 100 smithing and seeing what Dragonbone Armor looks like.

He usually wears a set of Ebony armor but I figured I'd show some support for the Empire.

We can only hope. The potential there is too great for Bethesda to pass up.

so anyway the thalmor are the obvious threat to both Skyrim and the Empire. they would make a very good enemy to fight in the future DLC. Many important NPC has stated the White gold concordant treaty was not meant to last. though i have to ask how big is the Thalmor Dominion? I know they control Summer Set Islands but what else?

Agreed. I'm itching to take the fight beyond the borders of Skyrim - someone needs to put these scum down for good.

Summerset Isle, Valenwood, and Elsweyr all belong to them IIRC. There's a book about it in the game called The Great War - check it out if you haven't already. It's an interesting read.

I have a feeling the Thalmor will be the main focus in TES6. Just way too much build up and dlc would not really cover it all.

Really? I want to see how much you can protect your head without a helmet when there is lots of enemies surrounding you. You'll lost your nose, eyes and your head will be slashed

After 220 hours, level 59 and very powerful, I decided to start a new char and escape Helgen following the Imperial Captain this time. Yes, I was WRONG, like someone stated. I thought it would exit through the other side and direct us to a village other than Riverrun because of people saying that after many hours playing they hadn't been in Riverrun.

The Imperial way out is much better for 2-handed warriors. The first 2-handed I could grab on my first char was at Riverrun, forged by myself. Now, the first weapon I looted from a Stormcloak was a Greatsword and there are War hammer and axe as well.

I killed the Torturer on my way out and there was no repercussion. Funny thing though. I created the very same char of my first run. Rage North-Star. This time I gave him a surname! =)

I can't bring myself to play it differently. I love the path I choose too much and the second run is always more fun than the first, and easier too, (always in Master Diff) considering how much more experienced I am with the game, specially after that couple hundred hours invested on the first version on my Rage!

I have his files saved in his own folder and I might go back and finish that first playthrough but it is so much fun for me to get to that point that I was really anticipating restarting the same char. And here I go to another crazy hundreds of hours Skyrim marathon. =)

That's why the No Helmet Mod is so cool. My avatar is wearing a very enchanted Ebony helmet but none can see it! =)

PS: The world map is so much more beautiful without the zillion locations that I had marked on it after 150 hours... had even more after 220.  Now it's all clear again but I'll find a way to make the main map stay that way! =)
