I wish my character could marry Brynjolf! Every time he calls her 'lass'...squee! Image IPB

So I thought that after you do Darkness Returns, you became the Guildmaster for the Thieves Guild. According to the ES wiki, you have to do 5 jobs for Delvin or Vex, then a special job, plus jobs for each hold, then a final quest.

I thought I was done. Wow, I feel kinda stupid. /facepalm

Ooh, and you get a new set of armor! I love the TG armor; I wish the rest of the armor in the game was that cool.

There's also a bug there. I encountered that one and I cannot get some of those quests. In my next run I'll try to circumvent it. All I get now is that he is busy, so I couldn't do the quests for the upgrades. ;)

TW2 and skyrim are too different for comparison. TW2 is not an open world rpg like skyrim is.

It's still pretty open-ish. It's a lot more open than Dragon Age, that's for sure.

I'd advise everyone to keep Steam offline for now. The 1.2 patch has been confirmed to nullify all magic resistance both on X360 and PS3, meaning your Nord will no longer have frost resistance, etc.

Not to mention the patch doesn't fix any quest glitches. My High Elf currently has 81% magic resistance, no way I'm losing that due to Bethesda's sloppiness.

That's not entirely true.  It's only happening to some folks apparently.  Because I just checked out my Nord and he still has 100% frost resistance.  Even went and tested it and sure enough, still totallly resistant with 0 damage.  Damn, sucks to be those folks I suppose

That's...Impossible?    Aren't   Resistances capped at 80%?  I know Armor and Magic is.  Even if you're showing 125% magic resistance (for example), you're still only gonna shrug off 80% of it.

All I know is that i ran into a frost dragon and he hit me with the full force of his breath attack and my life bar didnt move at all.  Perhaps im only losing a very miniscule amount of life if what you're saying is true?  All I know is that my nord is unaffected by this "glitch" some other folks are experiencing with the new patch

Could I just ask - is there are specific reason why Madanach and his merry band of nutters keep attacking my vampire, despite her agreeing to help them?

They don't do it at first, but as soon as it hits six in the morning (which it does quickly, seeing as she was thrown in Cidnha mine in the middle of the night, she gets an extra vampiric power (due to not feeding), and then whether they witness it or not, as soon as they see her, they attack madly and shout "kill the vampire".

I never knew the Forsworn were so picky about who gets to be a member of Team Sociopathy. Image IPB Pah, I knew I should've become a werewolf instead.

At stage 4 of vampirism everyone attacks you. So maybe your at that stage?

I suppose it must be. I imagine that having her feed on someone would solve that little problem.
I wonder if she starts to smell at stage 4 or something. A unique vampire smell, because she doesn't look any different otherwise.

^ Oh, no! Are you only trying to talk to Brynjolf, or are you talking to Tonilla and the others about their stuff? Yikes, I hope it isn't bugged for me, too!

Just when I wanted to start my game, Steam was patching it to version 1.2. ;)

I felt the pacing would have been a bit better if you were required to complete the smaller jobs for Delvin and Vex before Mercer trusts you enough to help him with Karliah.

TG was the first faction I joined, and the first few of these jobs gave me a reason to visit the other cities around Skyrim I hadn't seen before.

BTW Delvin's channeling of a cockney Michael Caine-ish thief is probably my favorite voice performance in the entire game.

Just checked the Bethesda forums and apparently the new patch is out now. HOWEVER, it seems the new patch breaks resistances of all kinds. So download at your peril.

I am going to have a look once more. I'll restore my 1600+ saved games for that backup and see if I can get it to work. ;)

1600+? Wow, don't do that on my account! I'll give those jobs a shot tonight when I get home to see if I can get past that stuff and become official Guildmaster. I'm still facepalming. Geez.

Not for everyone it doesnt.  Alot of folks, yes.  But there are some who were lucky enough to be unaffected by it.  Both my Nord and my Bosmer are unaffected for some reason.  But yea, there IS a high probability that your resists will be broken so indeed DL at your own risk atm.

So, out of curiosity, are you very particular about which books you put on which shelves?

Well, I guess I won't be downloading that new patch after all - fighting high-leveled dragons and other magic-using enemies without magic resistance is suicide.

Add the fact that the patch fixes a bug where dragons weren't attacking properly, and it sounds like we've got ourselves a bona fide recipe for disaster.

So thanks Bethesda, but no thanks.

Only if you're playing on Master.  Pretty sure you can manage on Adept or lower until a patch to fix the patch is released :P.  I dont play on master myself though.  Call me what you will but I have a firm belief that when I shoot a skeever with an arrow that it should die, not shrug off the attack, laugh at me and say "What? You mad?" lol

I'll usually put books I like (like the story of the boy who conjured a Dremora Lord in "A Tragedy in Black") or even rare books (like the one from Discerning the Transmundane) on the bookshelves, and the other books (or collections of books, like the volumes of "The Real Barenziah") in the nearby chest (like the chest above the bookshelf in Breezehome). I tend to seperate items for easy access into different chests (armor, clothes, weapons, notes, books).

I'm suddenly quite thankful my character is an Imperial archer.

Magic resistance? What's that?

If Brynjolf is saying that, chances are you still have to deal with the Mercer plot. Avoiding spoilers, at a certain point, Bryn won't talk to you until that's wrapped up.

edit: ruh roh. Steam automatically downloaded the patch while I typed this.

I've read there's a NEW bug with dragons as a result of the patch - apparently, some dragons will start flying backwards or fly in place.

Part of me wants to download the patch just to see that - it sounds like a barrel of lulz.

Wow, you really do collect books! I keep journals I find, along with the rare books, but the rest I don't bother with. I mean...how many copies of the Beggar Prince are out there, anyway? Lots!

I had to start separating items, too, because the chests in Whiterun were...well, overrun. That is still a whole other topic, though. I wish we could label our owned chests, instead of having to open them to see what's in them.

If I had things my way, the contents of my house would consist of one chest, one bed, and several dozen bookshelves.

With the exception of my copy of Song of the Alchemists, which I had to give away for a quest, I've kept one copy of every book I've found so far. If only I had the shelf room for them.

You guys are funny. Image IPB

So is there a way to put something other than books on bookshelves? I mean, I know you can drop an item, pick it up, and try to place it on a shelf, but that is horribly tedious.
