Wow, you really do collect books! I keep journals I find, along with the rare books, but the rest I don't bother with. I mean...how many copies of the Beggar Prince are out there, anyway? Lots!

I had to start separating items, too, because the chests in Whiterun were...well, overrun. That is still a whole other topic, though. I wish we could label our owned chests, instead of having to open them to see what's in them.

There are a lot of copies of books out there, but I think the lore that the books describe are interesting. It gives some depth to the world of Tamriel (the realm of Mundus), which I really like.

For my sanity and convenience, I tend to prioritize items near each other in different storage containers and chests so it's easy for me to access them (food, ingredients, scrolls near each other, and armor and weapons near each other). Sometimes I'll have certain types of weapons at certain houses (i.e. staves at the College of Winterhold, ect.) I made the mistake of putting everything I collected in one chest in Oblivion once, and it took forever for the items to load and sort through. I avoid making that mistake ever since.

Eh, I let the new patch install and haven't noticed any differences with magic resist. Although a horse fell out of the sky as I was walking down a road.

Wow, that's... wow... just... wow.

That's one of the most embarrassingly hilarious bugs I've ever seen in a video game. How could Bethesda not notice something like this? I mean, did they even test the patch out at all before releasing it?

That's just sad, man - funny as hell, but sad.

^ OMG, the inventory menus in Oblivion were awful, and half of the time, I ended up having to reboot the PS3 for that very reason.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I had to reboot constantly while playing that. I'm averaging about one lockup per 50-60 hours with Skyrim, which is pretty darn good for a Bethesda game.

I had something like that happen with a dragon, actually. I was in Morthal, talking to the Jarl, and walked out, and heard a thump - it was the skeleton of a dead dragon, and it landed on the roof of the Jarl's building. I'm guessing in this case, the guards may have been fighting it, and I walked out to see the tail end. I didn't get to help, which makes me a little sad. This was pre-patch, though.

So did the horse make it?

I'm pretty sure it's a rule at Bethesda that they have to include bugs in everything they publish. New games, patches, whatever ^^

Can you kill a flame/frost/storm atronach with fire/frost/shock spells?

Something like this happened to me too. I was just stood on the road, contmplating the beauty of the surroundings when a deer flew past. It was literally floating a few feet off the ground and just zoomed past into the mountains.

A dragon also started to burn up (soul absorb style) halfway through my fight with it. Then when it was just bones, it was still fighting me but I couldn't harm it! Fortunately I managed to lose it in a giant camp. They're probably still fighting it right now. Image IPB

Frak, I take back what I said.  I'll be keeping an eye out for an unofficial patch on Nexus, lol.

So is there a way to put something other than books on bookshelves? I mean, I know you can drop an item, pick it up, and try to place it on a shelf, but that is horribly tedious.

I... have no idea. I don't think so, but I've never tried.

Incidentally, this patch, and the whole magic/poison/disease resistance breaking thing. Does that mean I can finally be a vampire werewolf?

The only problem I had with the game (glowing eyes bug) magically corrected itself yesterday, so I dodged the bullet.

Not to mention from the patch notes, it seems pretty useless for non-console users. It doesn't fix any quest bugs and probably messes up mods like always.

Unfortunately I saw that Steam dl'ed the patch last night. I'll have to keep an eye out for problems.

About books- I don't think you can store anything on the bookshelves but books and notes. I tried to drag an item into the bookcase and it wouldn't go. I was thinking I should really try to put certain books on certain shelves, like all alchemy books together, all history etc. But I tend to just pick up pretty books and arrange them haphazardly. Image IPB

Here's a cool thing- some guy at Bethsoft forums compiled all the inscriptions of the word walls and their translations.  Yes, the word walls all have an actual meaningful inscription, not just the one word you learn.

Now that is unfortunate about books/bookshelves. Oh well, my inner interior designer will just have to bite her tongue.

The word wall translations were very cool, thanks for sharing! Image IPB

Some of those inscriptions are moving, some of them are hilarious, like the one that commemorates a guy who stank in life as much as his corpse. I also noticed one that talks about remembering the words of the hoar-father "Nii." Can't help but think that is a Monty Python easter egg.

The detail in the world is just so amazing. Things that might never get noticed. For instance, animals will go back to a den to sleep, including dragons. I also came across a place where there was obviously a buried ruin. I could not find an entrance into the ruin anywhere, so I went up on a nearby slope to check things out. You could see in the landscape that certain features were meant to show what a buried ruin would look like- a couple raised areas that were sod-covered but too circular to be natural features, for instance. That I could tell, there was no quest related to this location, but some artist had thought carefully about what an unexcavated ruin would look like in the landscape.

There's also a bug there. I encountered that one and I cannot get some of those quests. In my next run I'll try to circumvent it. All I get now is that he is busy, so I couldn't do the quests for the upgrades. ;)

If Brynjolf is saying that, chances are you still have to deal with the Mercer plot. Avoiding spoilers, at a certain point, Bryn won't talk to you until that's wrapped up.

edit: ruh roh. Steam automatically downloaded the patch while I typed this.

Nah. Mercer is dealt with. I am still figuring it out.

The good thing about the patch is that the Esc-key works like expected. So, if you press Tab and then Esc the screen with the 4 arrows will disappear and the main menu appears. I was always struggling with that. I'll also check the dialogue handling. It wasn't mentioned, but I sure hope it works correctly now. It drove me nuts each time a random item was selected. Even with the keyboard it didn't work well.

Aside from Mjoll looking hawt in that little Falmer getup, I bet she's driving you crazy with the constant prattle! Image IPB

As for the word wall translations, I liked this one:

Here lies (the) beautiful Khajiit Anurassa
whose warmth cannot be extinguished
even by cold death.

Ooh, my. Another reason for choosing your follower carefully. I don't think big Nord guys would pull that look off quite as well.

But is it my imagination or is she not looking too impressed?

Edit: Just read those wall translations. I particularly liked:

Here lies (the) body of (the) bard
Romerius, who tried (to) run from some
Goblins but slipped.

Lol, that's a heroic end to be sure. Image IPB

I was pulling armor off Vorstag last night to smith them up and he ended up equipping a Forsworn headdress I had him carrying.  It was hilarious.  I swear, he is the biggest dork in Skyrim.  I might marry him after all.

If you're looking for lucrative ways to up your smithing score...  I found Karthwasten and solved the problem with the mine there, and used Transmute spell to turn all my silver to gold.  Then on my way to Markarth, I detoured to clear Kolskeggr mine of Forsworn.  Turns out the place is Fort Knox.  We ended up lugging over 30 ingots of gold to Markarth.  I got all the jewels I'd been collecting and went to town making jewelry.  I will be emptying vendors of septims for a while selling all of it off.

^Same here. I hit both areas just recently and have gold ingots out the waazzoo. Will be making more jewelry once I've gotten some other things done. Need more cash. Been on a spending spree lately after recently purchasing the house in Markarth.

Ha, that sounds hilarious! Even better with the little furry skirt. Image IPB Be careful you don't go hunting deer and accidently shoot him! It's hilarious how much scanty armour there is around when it's snowy in like 2/3 of the country.

I'll have to try that smithing tip out. I found that Transmute tome, but so far it's just been gathering dust in Breezehome because I rarely find silver anyway.

I'm curious as to how the races other than Nords can function in that armor! Especially Argonians, as lizards are cold-blooded.
