I also agree that the political conflict in TESV is much better than DA2's.  For one thing, there are competent and clear-headed people on both sides, and good reasons to support either.

The political conflict in TESV to be honest (if you put it in the simplest of terms) came down to ****s versus dicks basically. The Stormcloaks were gettting over to being somewhat **** (but not nearly as much as the Thalmor) just because of their whole "Skryim for the Nords!" thing. There treatment of the Dark elves and well anyone else who wasn't Nord wasn't really the best way to unite a freaking country that is filled with multiple groups.

The Imperials just banned the worship of Talos and a humiliating as **** treaty around the time it seems the Redguards were able to drive the Thalmor back embarassing the empire even further and pissing off well...everyone. Of course the Nords are going to get pissed off and demand to worship Talos it is there right but the Imperials basically of course will do there best to hang on to Skyrim due to resources and territory.

The competence of the different sides did vary and is better than DA2 but the actual quests for them and the results of the war wasn't really satisfying and could have been done much better. Although Bethesda has a tedency to kind of screw up some things in a overall great game but when it happens in multiple games and is usually the same mistake every time it gets frustrating. That is why I propose Obsidian really help make the next Elder Scrolls or at least just make a expansion pack. It may be buggy the story will be better. Its the Obsidian way :P

I agree the actual quests weren't that special and the results not very satisfying- it feels like the status quo goes on as there are still renegade camps around.  But the setup is quite good and you actually got to join a faction and aid them directly.

My problem is I can't find motivation to play a non-Nord... I've been liking my Bosmer archer/ thief gameplay-wise but just don't like playing her in terms of the story.  I may have to make a Nord thief and live with the stat handicaps.

Well I've given up all hope of seeing another Dragon in my playthrough.
I've got like 8 words of power that I can't unlock cause I haven't seen a single dragon in like 2 weeks now.
Maybe I have to advance the main quest some more? I dunno I know their random but this is rediculous.
On a high note I finally go the Solitude house and I get why people love it. Forget Ulfric or the Empire I should be High King at this point. I could easily buy the country at this point lol.

I think I saw my first random dragon just after the second story dragon-killing (after meeting a certain character at an inn)
My current theory is that this is the event that starts off the random dragon appearances

(of course I don't know if that was a random dragon or not - it flew around a bit bellowed..landed in an inaccessible place and disappeared....maybe tomorrow night I'll have a proper encounter)

Thats not the problem though because I've been up to see the Grey beards I even went to the dungeon they sent me so I just cant see how its the story because I'm WAY passed the point where the dragons should show up.  For a while it was normal and then i see people complaining about too many dragons attacking them in citys... Funny how I wonder what thats like.  Because like I said I haven't seen any in my game for ages and I'm starting to wonder if my game got bugged.

...and in the dungeon the greybeards sent you to you get a note telling you to meet someone...if you have not already done so then meet that person and go off to kill your second dragon with that person.
That seems to be the point that triggers the random dragons for me (though I 'm not 100% certain yet)

the f------------------------------------------ this whole time I thought it was after the first dragon outside Whiterun.

So exactly when do you get the ability to use the dragon souls to activate shouts.

The setup is great I won't lie about that but the execution just made me think "I'd bet Obsidian would have done this better" although I begin remembering how buggy it would be and said screw it.

I'm thinking of playing a seriously **** High elf who is eerily like Palpatine in ability lol.

Plus he really dislike idiot Thalmor who try to act all high an mighty to someone like him. They will be getting fried and their dead bodies will be stripped naked and placed and humiliating positions.

Not so High and mighty now huh

I'm the same way. I loved my Nord/Stormcloak playthrough and now I'm having a lot of trouble playing anything else. I just feel really disconnected from my non Stormcloak characters. I think I would have liked to join the Thalmor with a different character. Just for an entirely different perspective.

My Dark Elf Dragonborn wish to get into a rather vocal...debate with the Thalmor.:)

Edit: Seriously though they are ****s to everyone even there own people. It isn't like they are morally grey they are just bad. The Altmer in generally can be arrogant ****s but some of them are less likely to attempt to rebuild there empire by crushing every species to the point where they can't worship there own gods and continuosly trying to erase there own heritage.

You know gameplay wise I was trying to build a Paladin up (Heavy Armor, Block, One-Handed, Restoration) but know I realize that I have a more Templar built character.

I got Spellbreaker and the Elemental resistance Perk from the block tree. Now all my magic problems are a thing of the past!

Literally I just let those idiots wail on me until they run out of mana...then I maul them with Dawnbreaker very fun.

Also Ulfric really does not seem like a person I like...I mean here I am the KILLER OF DRAGONS and the Thane of Whiterun....but the VERY FIRST THING OUT OF HIS MOUTH IS:
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN SKYRIM OUTSIDER!?!"

Added to that his racism and isolationist bend really dont win any point with me.
Then again I dont feel like siding with the people who were going to EXECUTE me either.

Ah well back to smithing so I can one day smith my own Dragon armor.

To be honest I like Ulfric better when he couldn't talk. At that point it was much easier for me to side with the Stormcloaks.

I made a Nord female assassin.  This is going to be fun.  :bandit:  I'll play that she was sent from Cyrodiil interests to kill Ulfric and got caught in the ambush.  Then has to decide whether to carry out her mission or get revenge on the empire.  My first character was a Nord battle mage- I like playing Nords who are not the typical.

I love Dunmer but the appearance is so freaky- can't handle the demon eyes.  The others are just boring to me.

Also I really like this version of The Dragonborn comes.

To be honest the game makes you feel very legendary at times but other times Bethesda does it again by having the main character who is the biggest badass in the last few centuries be seen as some average fighter or weak traveler by people. There needs to be a reputation system.

That's the point!

Remember they aren't human might as well look rather different. Plus when I wear a cowl from the Dark brotherhood my Dunmer's blood red eyes make her look so intimidating lol.

I plan on playing a Dark Elf later on.

Although he is working for the Morag Tong and is trying to assassinate the DB when he comes to Skyrim before things go sideways.
He will probably side with the empire.

I didn't want their faction to be joinable because I thought I could relate or anything. I actually thought that if I was going to be able to really get into a thief, dark brotherhood, daedric manipulation type character that joining the Thalmor made more sense than joining the Empire or Stormcloaks.

Its possible but then again in like almost every Elder Scrolls game the main character basically did serve the empire so helping the Thalmor who basically want things to go back to the old days (like before linear time) would be out of left field lol.

My Dark Elf is a bit of a psychopath with a lust for power. She cares for Skyrim and its people but she will kill anyone who crosses her or gets in her way at all. Remember as part Dovah all Dovahkiin seek power by nature.

Honestly my character has worked for multiple Daedric princes, (Valhalla) Svengarde, Talos, Mara, Sithis and so many other people I'm wondering if there will be a cosmic war over her soul.

That sounds like fun. Maybe I'll rush through the Imperial storyline on my current character, then start up a different character to play as a Stormcloak rogue.

My first character was a Nord battle mage- I like playing Nords who are not the typical.

I played a female Nord warrior for my first run of Skyrim. I played as mostly male Dunmer rogues in Oblivion and Morrowind, so while a Nord warrior is a typical combo, it's not typical for me personally :P

I'm playing as a Breton female mage. Though I have a love for the mace and bow. I do love my potions and have yet to get really deep into enchanting.

I tell you. Having a conscience that plays into my gaming is hard on me. Falling in with the Thieves Guild weighs heavy on me. *Sighs*

I'm trying to play somewhat out of my usual character. I usually play the path of a Dudley Do-Right.

Does it say in game somewhere that our characters served the Empire? And even playing as an Altmer would it still be out in left field to leave the Empire for the Thalmor?

In Skyrim you are Dovahkiin like Tiber Septim and likely could be part of the blood line. Even by helping the Stormcloaks you basically are against the Thalmor simply because they made the empire there ****es. In Oblivion you are essentially the future Emperor's (Badass) errand boy. In Morrowind your basically in the freaking blades.

Skryim I guess you don't have to directly serve the empire but your actions either way is against the Thalmor. Hell the Thalmor are so bad they were a possible reason for why the dragons were being revived (which was later proved wrong).

A nice touch about the Thieves Guild questline is that you can discover that Karliah is the granddaughter of Queen Barenziah.

Well, the Dragonborn is the most unremarkable TES protagonist so far, an insignificant speck even compared to Nerevarine and Champion of Cyrodiil.

It seems like you're telling me that I'm forced to play the 'good guy' ONLY when it comes to Alduin and the Thalmor. I doesn' t matter that I might be involved with the Dark Brotherhood, Thief's guild, Vampires, Werewolves, Morag Tong, evil Daedra and so on? The only Evil thing I must not be is pro-Thalmor :?

Gameplay wise yes due to game mechanics being more simplified and less broken in some areas. Your explanation doesn't really explain it any better since in this game you are a bit more recognized as awesome than in the other games lol but it still isn't at its best.

The Champion of Cyrodiil and The Nerevarine isn't really the best recognized either. Like I said it would be better if they had a reputation system in this. Althought it isn't the only problem this awesome game has.

Your not forced to play the good guy (The Empire is the lesser evil) your basically forced to not want yourself nor the rest of the world to die lol. Your character can still be rather evil and serve the Empire. You just can't be evil and help the Thalmor. Especially if your not a High elf. They really don't like other elves and especially humans. There is a reason why they stopped the worship of one of the most bad ass humans (now god) in history.
