The latter. The game defines the purpose of the Dragonborn very clearly. He's the ultimate Dragonslayer and a god-killer.

So are the Thalmor either a dragon or a god that they would be natural enemies of the Dragonborn?

Seeing how originally Auriel = Akatosh = Alduin, the Altmer would definitely be opposed to the Dragonborn. The Dragonborn opposes their chief deity is his attempt to free all Et'Ada from the prison that is Mundus.

The Thalmor are neither. The Dragonborn is a Lorkhanite champion, whose soul is akin to previous Dragonborns. Being a Lorkhanite champion, he's naturally an enemy of elves because elves believe the missing god Lorkhan tricked them into creating the mortal plane, an act that separated them permanently from immortality and godhood. The ghost at Old Hrol'dan saw you as Hjalti of Alclaire, the first name of Tiber Septim. You were in essence no different from special individuals from who conquered Tamriel.

Despite of your character's race or role-playing creed, the Thalmor would always see you as an obstacle because by your nature alone you'd thwart their goal. The conquerors of the old Empires who defeated elves were Dragonborn. Alessia defeated the Ayleids, Reman used his Akaviri armies to force Alinor into tribute, and Tiber Septim managed to conquer all of Tamriel.

I know that TESV says the Thalmor have had this goal forever, but was this goal ever mentioned anywhere before TESV? Was it in any of the other Elder Scrolls games?

The quote is a forum post that was released by Michael Kirkbride before Skyrim. The guy is a former dev of Bethesda, but still communicates closely with current devs iike Kuhlmann. Essentially, he was giving us clues that there are conspirators that seek to destroy the Empire and possible Tamriel as a whole. This is supported by the existence of an elven daedric faction like the Mythic Dawn or the Delphine suggesting the Blades have always fought the Thalmor in secret during the height of the Septim Dynasty.

Fair enough. The Blades adopting the Dragonborn as their own symbol could certainly make the Dragonborn an enemy of the Thalmor. Still, both of those books, as far as I can tell, first appeared in TESV, so they *could* have been written by the devs a different way to allow the Thalmor and Dragonborn to not be inherent enemies.

See the quote below it in my post. It says that (according to Todd) the Dragonborn in Morrowind and earlier games was different than the one in Oblivion and Skyrim.

Edit: The term "Dragonborn" first appeared in Oblivion. At best, in earlier games, you'll encounter the word "Dragon-born" (note the dash) or the phrase "of Dragonblood". There's not much to be found, though. So, yes, you may be right. :)

I'm trying to make a new character, but I can't decide on what Race.
I'm trying to do a different character, I've already used 3 races (Xana Wood Elf, Minx Dark Elf, and Jane Nord) Grrr...
Why does it gotta be confusing? -.-

Whats a good race?
And also, don't say Argonian, I love em too death, but I can't handle them. There to awesome for me.

I was in the same position as you, trying to find that perfect race to keep. I have been thoroughly surprised by my love for the Orc (My Orc, Magoza). They fit the lore perfectly (not to mention their culture is so amazing), and they look bad ass. Especially the females. I never played them because I was off put by their looks, but they are amazing in Skyrim if you make 'em right. Plus, their race power is crazy great.

I also love the Altmer. They are prehaps my favorite race. Redguards are beast, too.

Ah thank you.
I never was fond of the Orcs, mostly because of there looks ( Like Oblivion.)
But I may just have too make one.
Altmer.. I love Magic, but I don't see many of them..:(

I'll take your advice, and use a Orc in my next run. I'm going to crazy in the Dark Brotherhood to be disturbed

Delphine is quick to forget the Blades adopting the Dragonborn when she gives you an ultimatum, even goes "you're either with us or against us". Terrible character.

In fact, the entire involvement of the Blades in the main quest feels tacked on.

If the dragonborn is a Lorkhanite champion ( someone who is sent to the world to help make sure no one destroys the world ) , then it would make sense that the Dragonborn is an enemy of the Thalmor.

Still, the post was information published after Oblivion. If it was written after Oblivion, then it was new lore that could have been reworked before publication.

No more tacked on than anything else.

On the same topic, found this barrow near Whiterun, with the sword of the last Blade.

SPOILER!!!!!

So who killed Paarthunax? Personally I didn't. That dragon while committed horrible crimes was actually the main one helping in a ****ing battle with Alduin. Spent hundreds of years attempting to overcome his very nature. Actually the main reason why Alduin was temporarily beaten was due to Paarthunax's help. The blades version of justice doesn't ****ing matter at this point due to the crimes being so long ago and Paarthunax involvement literally leading to saving the entire world.

Hell he will even do his best to make sure many of the damn dragons won't keep trying to go in Alduins direction. Teaching them the way of the voice will stop a genocidal war which would save many many lives. Some of the Blades reasons for wanting to kill Paarthunax is due to his dov nature which makes him want to seek power. It isn't the only reason why they want to kill him but that reason is also a reason to kill Dovahkiin. Dragonborn is more likely to seek power than Paarthunax.

One taught the way of the voice and peace for centuries. The other is some mortal who by his or her very blood want to kick ass and gain power.

More spoliers...

I didn't kill him either. However, if I played my role consistently then after killing the emperor I shouldn't have kept Paarthunax alive.

Eh, my character kept Paarthunax alive but the main reasoning behind that was that he had the most info about my abilities and such and therefore he would be useful to me alive.

I ran into a randomized skirmish between T.Justicars and some Stormcloaks on the crossroad between Fort Sungard and Sunderstone Gorge. Watching from the sidelines the Stormcloaks were slaughtered, and on cue the female justicar spouted some mumbo jumbo about Thalmer superiority.

I was neutral at first, being an imperial supporter, but as a Nord i was offended so in third person i ran in and oneshotted the guy next to her. Before she can cast a spell i pulled off a glorious chest stab animation. Not even a second after i killed her the game goes slow-mo again as a sword pierces through my chest in a kill death animation as i was oneshotted by the third justicar. Mind you i saw that i had full health before and after i was apparently killed, but the game still considered that i was killed. Level 55, 349 armor rating, and on Adept difficulty, what the fruit loops just happened to me.

Feeling the fire in my heart, and wanting revenge i reloaded to a previous save up the road. This time i initiated a random encounter with a brawl between a conjurer and two bandit marauders. I killed the conjurer first using the same slow-mo kill as before then bam, not even a second later i'm slow-mo killed like previously. Like before my health was still full before and after the deed. Feeling that Edgewalker's masculinity was in jeopardy i aggroed the giant camp west of Whiterun. Lo and behold i massacred 2 giants, and 3 mammoths with 349 armor rating, 310/340 health left out of the encounter with no health boosting or regenerating gear.

I've reloaded a hard save a half hour before the encounters and tested out the random encounters in the same area again for an hour. I was able to get my revenge on the bandits and a justicar hit squad even though i only aggroed the Thalmer in an unsaved game. Now I think i can safely conclude that the game was trolling me. Did anyone else have a similiar incident/glitch happen to them in their playthrough.

I've seen a few of those and yesm they're a pain. At Master diff, level 59, over 750 AC and 400 DMG, with full gear and double enchanted items, one mistake could be fatal. =) I like how these ones scale though. At level 10 with new char I could take them while they had a prisoner, then again at level 20... they keep the challenge up!

I'm going with Uthgerd this time. Left Lydia home after dismissing Faendal. His house was a great storage warehouse for my stuff up to level 25, when I finally went to Whiterun and bought a house. Oh, and I can shout again!!

Fus... Fus.... Fus...  (feels so weak! hahaha)

I'm definitely marrying Aela this time. And leaving her home while I adventure with Mjoll, after I retrieve her sword. Aela is the hottest! =)

Not exactly similar, but I was in a falmer dungeon and was one-shotted by a chaurus reaper. I was wearing party clothes and a jester's cap, so that's not the issue, I completely understood being instantly destroyed. What happened after, though, puzzled me. My health bar was empty, but I was still walking. In fact, I was being hit repeatedly by falmer, and... nothing. It was only when I decided to cast Fast Healing that I fell to the ground dead.

...hmmm... other glitches I've encountered... well, everyone and their dog has at least 2 Louis Letrushes, I have 3.5. I hope that never gets fixed. One talks and they all mouth the words.

I had the freezing during the Dark Brotherhood quest Death Incarnate, ("Sleeeeeep.", screen goes black, freezes)which I seemed to have gotten around by disabling autosaves. Not actually sure if it made a difference, but it worked when I did, so, if anyone has that problem, try that.

My husband left during our wedding (seriously, he said "I do" and turned around and left the chapel before I said anything) and completely disappeared from Skyrim for a while, eventually turning up back in the chapel of Mara and hiding in a corner. Yeah, I'm that frightening. Image IPB

After beating the final boss, it updated one of my civil war quests for some reason, and cheated me out of an achievement (capture fort greenwall.) I reloaded an older save to get it, because I'm one of those people.

Somewhere in the north of the map I found two draugr corpses fused together and attached to a horker.

Nightingale Strife makes the game crash when I use it on a group. On one person, it's fine.

In the Sheogorath quest, I punched Pelagius and he woke up and stood up. But i still had to "wake him up."

In about 100 hours of gameplay, the game has crashed about 10 times. Always on loading screens. I suppose its balancing out the universe because I managed to play through Fallout: New Vegas at release with no problems whatsoever.

Oh... forgot to say what I had come here to say:

Uthgerd, the Unbroken... our first battle together, a few lame bandits outside the walls of Whiterun... and now she's dead? Either she was hurt from our brawl, which she lost, of course, or she gained her Unbroken alias from running away of fights!

I'm considering not reloading, not res'ing her and just move on... *sighs*

To add to the list the body of one of the missing Winterhold mages north of Ysgramar's Tomb isn't spawning in any of my saves so i have to avoid the quest.

@ RageGT I've no problem being ganked on Master but having it happen to me on Adept even with the scaling felt like a low blow...lol

I agree - Aela is the most attractive female NPC overall. Something about her... I dunno.

It's funny - out of all of the breathtaking views to be had throughout Skyrim, the best view is actually following Aela back to Whiterun after clearing out Gallows Rock.

I know the Imperials are bolstering their numbers to prepare for the next war. The way the justicar commented right after the slaughter made  it sound like a direct slight to the Nords personally. If it was my  Khajit or Altmer character it would have been a lulzly moment.

The Thalmar are, as in all things, a bit dickish in their combat lines. "All of Skyrim will become slaves to the Thalmar", hmm? That's great. As if I didn't have enough motivation to butcher the lot of you already.

I wish I'd had subtitles on for the time when one of them pulled the "Hahahaha! You wish to defeat me?! Impossible!" line as I was running him through with a sword. That was priceless.
