The truce with the thalmor was a temporary stopgap that no one is seriously taking it as a long term deal.

I haven't played Imperial side yet, so bear with me. Do the Imperials express that they're using the peace time with the Thalmor to plan a new offensive against the Thalmor?

Yes this is explicitly said ingame.

So why do the Imperials think it's more important to fight the Stormcloaks, instead of surrendering/joining causes? Do they think that it's too early to fight back against the Thalmor, or since they believe Ulfric is only interested in the crown that Ulfric wouldn't be further interested in a joint cause?

Sorry for waiting so long to answer, but aside from the fact that the empire does not want to lose the men and resources of skyrim, if the empire loses skyrim to the rebels they also lose all access to high rock behind skyrim. That is two major provinces for the price of one.

How do we upgrade the wolves' shouts? I know there are 3 stages like the tu'um but I never got to know where/how we upgrade it. I hate things that are "too powerful" for my Roar and simple foresworn can be, at level 50+.

I don't think you can "upgrade" it, really, but most of my roars still work on grunts - only enemies like Bandit Chiefs and other "boss" enemies manage to withstand my roars, and they can be dealt with through other means easily enough.

Too bad the fighting over skyrim is pointless and helps NO ONE. The storm cloaks can't even fight a straight up battle unless the dragon born supports them, what happens when thalmor mage armies come forth? One guy with shouts is not going to save them.

The same could be said for the Empire, couldn't it? Without the Dragonborn's involvment, the civil war seems to be at a stalemate.

The way I see it is like this. If skyrim wins their independance, and cuts the empire off from not only skyrim's resources, but its other province cut off from its loss of land, it will be severely weakened and stand little chance against the thalmor. Once the empire falls, that leaves four individual provinces with no ties to each other isolated and cut off by vast tracks of thalmor land. Since skyrim is xenophobic under ulfric it is the most logical first choice to invade, and by itself it will likely fall fairly quickly.

The way I see it, both the Empire and Ulfric are equally wrong in continuing the civil war. For all that Ulfric refuses to back down, the Empire doesn't need to fight him. They share a common enemy in the Thalmor. Skyrim doesn't have to be part of the Empire for them to ally against the Thalmor.

Are you kidding? The empire had kicked ulfrics ass in quick order (well actually tulius did after fighting went on long enough) and were about to execute him. The only reason the empire was having so much trouble during the course of the game was because of the dragons! The stormcloaks had to use guerilla warfare to even stand a chance.

Only when the dragonborn came about did the stormcloaks even had a chance.

(sorry I am catching up on the backlog, no more I promise!)

That leaves three major provinces left to face the thalmor. Hammerfell, highrock, and blackmarsh/morrowind.

Morrowind is basically gone.  Black Marsh is technically in the Dominion, though mostly neutral.

You make a contradiction- you say the Stormcloaks are weak, but then say the empire needs Skyrim's resources.  These two things are connected.  The empire is bleeding Skyrim not only of its best warriors but also of its mineral resources.  Sure they don't want to let those go.

Skyrim is not the most logical place to invade.  It's got a harsh terrain- try a guerilla war in Skyrim's mountains and see who would get the better of it, the natives or the elves.  Anyway all this is beside the empire never saved anyone before, so why people think it's simply a given that staying in the empire is the only key to beating the Thalmor, that's a puzzle to me.

(Morrowind is mostly gone, whats left was conquered by teh argonians. Thus the morrowind/blackmarsh. The black marsh is nuetral and powerful. The argonians were the only ones to not only stand against the gates of oblivion by themselves, but INVADE and FORCE the daedra to close the gates. The argonians are in a unique position to resist pretty much anyone if they sit on their heels, but even they would fall in time if they don't find a way to coordinate with anyone else.)

I make no contridiction. Skyrim is strong, but is weak alone.

Let me put it this way. 300 spartans (and misc. greeks who were with them) might have held the pass because they were mighty, but even if not for the back entrance they would have all died. In time. If those greeks had a proper army behind them to hold the pass... Well that would be a different story.

Skryim is strong, but it needs the empire just as much as the empire needs them.

To be honest it wasn't just that the Tullius was kicking ass it was because he was the only one smart enough capable of capturing Ulfric really. The Imperial force stationed there likely was either not skilled enough or not big enough to fight the Nords and they needed a better leader. The Imperials may be able to beat the Stormcloaks but they would be basically in the same position as the stormcloaks. Too weak to actually truly fight off a real Thalmor invasion without the Dragonborn and a friendly dragon.

Oh, right. I think I understand now. We have 3 abilites and we must choose one to use at a time. I thought they were all upgrades of one power. =)

From http://elderscrolls....m/wiki/Werewolf

Scent of Blood: (Skyrim 1st Totem) Detect life in a large area for 1 minute.
Howl of the Pack: (Skyrim 2nd Totem) summon Two Wolves to fight at your side.
Howl of Rage: (Skyrim 3rd Totem (default skill for werewolves)) Causes nearby enemies up to level 25 to flee for 30 seconds.

The three totems above have to be unlocked and then you can pray at them in the underforge in Whiterun, you can use one at a time to as werewolf power. Werewolf powers are used with the same button as the button which activated your Beast Form.

Skyrim thought of the day:

Finished the Dark Brotherhood questline today. Astrid NOOOOOOOOOO! Heh, that whole thing was pretty great and definitely great for my Stormcloak Nord. I just kind of hate your new Sanctuary even when upgraded. It lacks the nice atmosphere and character of the old one and is just filled with a bunch of nobodies.

Who says they would fight alone?  That's only your assumption.  As I've said ad nauseum.... if Cyrodiil wants to join forces, it can treat with Skyrim as an independent nation.  It doesn't have to rule.

Eh, no.  There is a standstill as of game time.  The Imperials tell you they are stretched thin and thus are recruiting locals.  They either got lucky with the ambush, or had a tip from the Thalmor.

In other news... Jenassa is so good she scares me sometimes.  Of course I did give her an enchanted Akaviri blade, but still.  And she has such style.  She chased a fleeing Dark Brotherhood assassin yelling "come here cat, you'll look good as a rug."  ROFL

i maxed out my archery skill last night. i feel so good about myself. i had to set the difficulty a bit higher, since it's getting too easy to fight.

I found that siding with the Imperial Legion rather boring. Am I the only one?

I found myself a little ticked yesterday: I was playing , and I found out that making dragon armor requires a smithing perk. Well, on these forums someone said I was supposed to upgrade my Light Armor skill all the way...I wasted at least two perks. Boooo.

It is one of the awesome Quest Lines in Skyrim for sure. I love Shadowmere :happy:<3 and the spectral assassin.
But Astrid's betrayal and her end was going under my skin.

That "betrayal" in the Dark Brotherhood didn't make a lick of sense. Making a deal with a guy whose son you murdered... the entire questline was far inferior to Oblivion's, with the lack of characters on par with Lucien Lachance and lack of focus on quests involving ingenious ways of killing people.

Skyrim's Thieves Guild questline at least gets saved after the transparent "betrayal" by Karliah, who's probably the most interesting character in the game. Still, there's too much occult bs and too few ultimate heist.

What do you mean? Just make a Light Dragonscale Armor and you're good, if you invested in Light Armor skill perks. You only need to go through one Perk Tree Branch in Smithing to get Dragon Smithing.

While I was thinking as much at the time, I still enjoyed the storyline.

While I did not trust Commander Maro, I personally held even less in the Jester, and could understand how Astrid might wish to go to great lengths to remove that influence from her so-called family. From the moment I left his shrill voice stuck in the mud near Whiterun  - even if I had no idea it was him at the time - to the final gasps of his life, that was the most detestable character I had met at that time in the game.

And the look of surprise and anger in Maro's face finding me alive made it all worthwhile, especially when using an Unrelenting Shout to knock him off the top of those stairs into the cold waters below. Add a well placed arrow shot at a floating target, and call it a night.

Bug Alert:

When enountering a Dremora Kynval in Shalidor's Maze, do not One Shot the target while off Plane, or you will be stuck and need to re-load the encounter. So be prepped for the uneven numbers of a longer match.

Also, for those simply wanting the additional Shout, one might be able to skip the match entirely, as well as entering the Maze in the first place.

I have a dumb question. Ok, in my first playthrough I remember killing Krosis. And I only remember that he drops a mask. On this playthrough, however, I completely kicked his ass. So hard, in fact, that I knocked him off the mountain. And try as I might, I can't find his body anywhere now.

Question: what else does he drop?

Take your murdering somewhere else, Forsworn.

Markath is such a friendly town. What a great first impression.
