I'm not sure of an "official" reason why cheese is such a big deal, but I always related it to Sheogorath from Shivering Isles (and the fact that cheese wheels are absolutely everywhere).

Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that! Cheese for no one! Image IPB

Lol, haha. I suppose that clarifies it a bit.:P

While we're on armour, has anyone else had their head disappear when wearing the Morokei mask?

Yes. Going on about 50 hours without a face. Never noticed until I'd left the game idle a while, as I always play in first person. Is it just the Morokei mask, or all of them? I only use Morokei, stashed the rest in Breezehome.

It does occasionally fix, but not for long.

I doubt I'll ever play Oblivion again after this. It's inferior to Skyrim in just about every way IMHO (and is inferior to Morrowind in some aspects as well).

Looking forward to whatever expansions Bethesda is working on - if the inclusion of most of Tamriel in Skyrim is any indication, it's gonna be big. :o

This. Just keep releasing expansions, Behtesda. I'll buy 'em all if they have the same level of quality as this.

Sheogorath is the most awesome of the daedric princes! I want to sell my soul to him again! Not those other daedric fools!

Especially after we get to know that he is the Champion of Cyrodiil! My new PC working for my old PC. That would be glorious!

Am I the only one who was expecting the Champion to actually become the new Emperor? I mean, they made him that special armor that's only made for and worn by the Septims - I thought it was a hint that my PC was gonna become ruler of freakin' Tamriel.

Also, on another note: holy crap, Sibbi Black-Briar has to be the biggest scumbag in Skyrim. I wish I could kill that guy. Asks me to track down his ex-fiancee who he cheated on, then killed her brother when he said something about it, just so he can "take her head."

Well guess what, jackass? You and your hired thugs can go on a wild goose chase in Morrowind, because I'm not enabling your sorry ass like your mafia don of a mother does.

Sheogorath is still a fun Daedric Prince, even 200 years later being replaced by a mortal turned Mad God.

I wonder how the other Daedric Princes view him, given their negative views on Malacath (who used to be the Aldmer god Trinimac until Boethia allegedly ate him and expelled him) - he was mortal once, he let Jyggalag loose to walk the waters of Oblivion once again, and he helped defeat Mehrunes Dagon. I wonder how Mehrunes took the news of the Champion of Cyrodiil's "ascension" to the throne of Madness.

@MarchWaltz - For the most part, I'd rank them the same as you did. I just added this to another thread, so I'll re-post here:

The Thieves Guild was the longest, it seemed, to me. The quest line is not over once you finish Darkness Returns.

If you want to be Guildmaster, you have to do 5 jobs in each hold, plus a special job in each hold, plus an extra job for Tonilia, which means 25 jobs PAST Darkness Returns. I missed that initially, and wondered why it felt unfinished. They don't exactly hold your hand and explain that, but it's all part of returning the TG to its former glory.

TBH, those extra jobs made the whole thing kind of drag on for me, because the holds each job was given in were random, so you kind of had to keep track of how many you'd done in each hold, and turn down the jobs in holds you'd already completed.

For the Nightingale armor (and the Guildmaster armor), though, it was competely worth it. I also dug the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but it was a little shorter than I expected.

Aha, I'll have to finish the TG later on.  I was wondering why I had no access to black TG armor.

I'd add that my favorites were the DB and TG, and it was fun that they intersected a bit.

I just finished up the Dark Brotherhood questline over the weekend, and WOW, it blew me away! I'm pretty happy to say that I let Cicero live, because I find him to be absolutely hilarious. He annoyed me a bit at first, but now, when he gives me the excited, "let's kill someone!!!" line, it just cracks me up.

My husband did not make that choice, and watched me play for a bit; he said he was sad that he didn't let him live. This, as he's running around in Cicero's jester shirt in his playthrough.
Image IPB

I haven't taken him out in the wild yet; do any of you guys know how he is in combat?

Edit: Oh, and p.s., I saw my first backward-flying dragon last night. It took about 40 play hours after I installed the patch to see it happen, but there it was, in all its sadness. /tear

I thought the Dark Brotherhood was good, too. Did you read Cicero's journal? Apparently, he seemed to be a "particular" character from Oblivion. I won't spoil it for you if you haven't read it yet.

If you meet Cicero before entering the Dark Brotherhood, outside of Loreius Farm (it's north of Whitewatch Tower, on the road if you're heading NE from Whiterun), he provides additional dialogue when you meet him later at the Sanctuary. If I recall correctly, the spirit of Lucien Lachance claims that killing Cicero isn't something that Sithis desires (during "The Cure of Madness").

And those who say that Thalmors can do whatever they want in the empire, are wrong. The "imperial legion may require thalmor to leave immediately the country ( Thorald Greyman ) if necessarily, and they would be forced to obey.

I guess we've already said about everything that can be said, but on the point of the Nords founding the empire- that's exactly why they feel they should have a right to determine its future and if not, Cyrodiil can shove off.  When you ask him about Nords always being in the empire, Galmar says "not this empire."

As for the empire "someday" giving it to the Thalmor- well, that will be the day.  In the meantime they are using the Thalmor as their attack dogs.  Feh.

Oy, new problem ahead. I'm on the quest for the college, to find the staff of... Magnus I think. I'm in the labyrinthian, and suddenly enemy draugrs' textures are not loading properly. They have blue lines and for the rest they're see-through. It happened for the first time last night and then the game crashed. Now I've tried again, but still no textures. Other enemies ahead suffer from the same. Ugh, annoying.

Although Skyrim is definitely a welcome change from all the crap the gaming industry has suffered over the last 3-4ish years.

Do any of you get a random event where you're attacked by Hired Thugs? My Bosmer is getting them at level 5 and dammitall, I can't beat them. I keep dying over and over and over, and they killed Uthgerd the Unbroken.  Image IPB My PC is  just too squishy to beat them. I take it that this is bad karma for her stealing.

I think followers can only be killed by the protagonist, otherwise they kneel down and slowly regenerate their health if the enemies deletes it in combat - I discovered this when I saw that enemies couldn't kill my followers, and I accidently killed Aela the Huntress on my first run as an assassin (which is why I avoid the dog companions now - as nice as it is to have a dog faithfully at your side, the dog tends to run right in front of my mage using magical attacks on enemies).

I haven't gotten any hired thugs so far. During my recent run, I get attacked by the Dark Brotherhood assassins instead of hired thugs (unless it's the Thalmor trying to kill me for "disrupting" their plans), even for actions that got my assassin hired thugs originally (which I suspect is because my mage isn't a member of the Dark Brotherhood like my assassin was). I would suggest using the water to escape when your health is low or going to the elevated hills and mountains to attack some enemies from a distance when the antagonists try to surround you. This saved my life on early levels when a cave bear or a sabre cat tried to maul me.

When he dies he gains all the knowledge of what is going on in skyrim and regrets sowing the conflict that allowed the dragon to be revived. As he is saying this both imperial AND stormcloak soldiers that are trapped just outside of sovenguard (alduin is eating their very souls before they can reach it).

That's Ulfric's pespective and it's very sad he dies with guilt like that, but the prophecy suggests that it was the banning of Talos that precipitated the dragons coming.  The Thalmor didn't know they were doing that- they were only waiting for Aur-Iniel- but unwittingly they did.

I'm also not surprised that Ulfric is a mournful ghost.  He seems to carry guilt for leaving the Greybeards when you talk to him about that.  People who say he's just a racist pig don't understand the character.

I've done both the Stormcloak and Legion MQ, and while my Dunmer leans more towards the Legion outcome for the Holds, I thought Ulfric was an interesting and developed character. I never saw him as a villain, certainly not some one-dimensional caricature. Despite my inclination for Brunwulf Free-Winter for Windhelm, I thought Ulfric's focus on aiding Nords had more to do with his "rise to power" to be the new High King than it did with anything else.

Addai67 wrote...

I'm not sure why some people dislike Ulfric so much - whenever I speak to him, he's usually a calm, reasonable fellow (he does have a bit of a temper, but that's hardly a reason to hate him).

Characters strike people a certain way, it's not always logical.  He's got a lot of grey to him.  Some people also take the Thalmor dossier on him and The Bear of Markarth at face value.

Doesn't the Dossier read that the Thalmor tried to trick Ulfric into thinking their torture of him lead to a victory for their side, and that he refused to abide by their orders when they tried to control his rebellion? I didn't get the feeling that the dossier was damning since it seemed like Ulfric wasn't really under their thumb - he was clearly going to do what he wanted to do, and even his desire for Skyrim to be independent was respected by High King Torygg.

Followers can definitely be killed by enemies or mishaps.  It's just that if the PC is nearby, enemy AI will no longer target the follower once they go down.  It's a bit of a safety net, but it's limited.  If you aren't there to take the pressure off, they'll go back and finish your follower off.

I got those g-d Hired Thugs again on my assassin character.  Once they attacked me in Riverwood and the whole town turned hostile.  Jenassa and I finally got them outside Whiterun and spat on their ugly corpses.

Doesn't the Dossier read that the Thalmor tried to trick Ulfric into thinking their torture of him lead to a victory for their side, and that he refused to abide by their orders when they tried to control his rebellion?

That's right.

Out of curiosity, what means feh ? :)

Also, I have nothing against Ulfric, interesting character, I just disagree with him and his agenda. I don't trust him either to lead Skyrim in a better way.

I read part of his journal, but admittedly, didn't read the whole thing. I'll do that tonight when I get home, now I'm curious!

Cicero is lucky to be alive - if Lucien hadn't been there, he would be. But like I've said before, I think he's funny now. I also like what N.azir and Babette say about him being at the sanctuary.

Edit: Apparently Mr. DB's name is considered swearing.

I'll put my Altmer mage to rest after 143 hours. Only "No stone unturned" she left incompleted with 7 more stones to go. I'll restart with a Bosmer archer when more patches are out. I don't think I'll ever play a full melee character.
