Well I'm loving this game, playing at 1680x1050 and the graphics are pretty damn good. But I have the same two complaints I've had of all Bethesda games: voice acting and combat animations. Both are better than Oblivion, but still they fall a bit flat.

Yeah voice acting there isn't much you can do with, but combat varies depending on how you play. I started out one hand magic and one hand sword and that got old. But sword and shield is pretty fun with blocking, especially if you put some perks in Block. Same goes for stuff like Archery or playing stealthy with Sneak. While the classless system lets you dabble in a little bit of everything, its more fun when you sort of focus on at least one with the perks.

Btw, does anyone know if the Thieves Guild folks are all essential? I'm thinking of wiping them out in this playthrough, so I want to know whether it's actually possible.

They're all essential. I tried many times to kill them.

Nice to see them putting out patches right after release. Just fought my first dragon and I'm trying to figure out how to kill this thing. I run up to it, battle hammer swinging. It swallows me up to my waste, shakes me like a rag doll and tosses my dead body aside.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. B)

I was curious, who did people side with in "In My Time Of Need"?

I thought it was an interesting quest. Saadia and Kematu both claim to be the "good guy," point the finger at the other as a Thalmor ally in Hammerfell, and there doesn't seem to be any evidence that would indicate that either one is lying about their claim. It's entirely up to the Dragonborn to decide who the "bad guy" is, and who to trust. It seems to be entirely an issue of gut instinct, and I was curious who people felt inclined to side with.

Yes, this one was ambiguious. First, I had to decide whether or not I believed Redguards would be eager sellswords for the Aldmeri Dominion. My gut response was no, but these obviously weren't typical Redguards. Their race produces good scouts and warriorsbut assasination isn't part of their usual skillset. Scouring Skyrim for a single person certainly sounds incredibly like something the Thalmor would do. They drove Delphine into hiding, why not Saadia? She claims to have been outspoken and influential woman so it's possible they'd want her dead. I kept my word to Saadia and sided with her. I could easily spin this the other way around and make her the villian so really it's just about perspective.

Combat is best for me when you are around the same level as your enemy, for a few reasons.

1. If the enemy is too easy there is no fun. (aside from the screwing around you can do with them)

2. If the enemy is too hard it can get a bit ridiculous. (why is this lightly armored bandit taking so many sword swings to the face? And why am I getting killed in two hits?)

3. A perfectly balanced enemy will provide challenge and test your skills.

For example I was a sword and axe argonian. In one dungeon I was fighting a particularly tough draugr with a fast swing. I had find the rythm of his strikes and tap the block button to prevent damage, while circling and weighing the risks of when to hit him. I couldn't hold down the block button as that would give me less chances to hit him, and it also whittled down my stamina. I also had to be careful about power attacks and when to risk them, usually only used them to break his guard.

That fight was both exhilarating and tough without being ridiculous. I wish skyrim had more like it.

Finally made some Daedric armor.

Kind of silly that no one mentions you walking around in big spikey black and red armor.

Also I enjoy flipping off Daedric gods a lot right now.
So for I really managed to ****** off two of them so far.

If you know a bit of background, the choice is easy. The Alik'r are the toughest, truest and most fanatical of the Redguards. They'd sooner throw themselves on their scimitars than surrendering, let alone working for Elves.

About Dunmer:  I had the same problem making one.  They all looked horrid.  It's kind of sad.

Brelyna is really pretty and I married her. But I really wish I could've married Irileth. She's the toughest lass in the game.

I liked saadia and she was pretty but she gave me a bad feeling in all of my dealings with her. That along with the Alik'r's demeaner and the fact that saadia gave me less reason to trust her than the warriors did...

Plus I would have had to fight a crap ton of warriors to help her, so I sided against saadia.

I sided with the Alik'r. I got a good vibe from the guy and afterward was satisfied that he said he was going to take her back to Hammerfell for trial since it wasn't his place to judge her.

Yeah, I sided with the Alik'r, because they seemed much more honorable. I almost went the other route, but my husband kind of spoilered it. I went back to that cave location later, and all of those guys were still in there. Weird.

Hey, have any of you guys done Kyne's Sacred Trials, given by Froki? According to one of the wikis, you get "Blessing of Kyne" for completing it; I'm curious what that is!

Edit: Nevermind, I found it. Looks like -10% damage from animals and +5 pts archery (or +5%, depending on which wiki). Either way, pffffth. Image IPB

I went ahead and sided with Kematu as well, but I felt kinda bad about it. Saadia was pretty damn good-looking - but then again, Kematu did warn me about a pretty face afterwards.

Ah well. I'll add that to the list of tragic missed opportunities for marriage.

Oh, and there's a new patch out, eh? Is it out for 360 as well? I'd like to download it if so.

Started out the same way Brock: one hand flames and one hand war axe.  One handed magic became just sort of a passing fad for me.  I enjoy the warrior skills and default to that normally.  But Skyrim did enticed me to play with magic a bit.  That's yet another reason to love Skyrim; you aren't railroaded into any skill set, and have the freedom to do, and level whatever skills you want.  I enjoyed being able to dabble in things I don't normally play, and then discard them when my curiosity is satisfied, in favor of my preferences...and after all that you still get your shouts to experiment and play with.

Had to retire the flamethrower though, I just enjoy the shield too much, and in Skyrim it is a blast.  The Deadly Bash perk (x5 damage), is stupidly overpowered.  Like I said earlier, stunning Dragons and Centurions, just seems so bizarre when I compare my PC now (level 37) to his meager abilities at level 8. Killing someone outright with a shield bash is immensely gratifying. With Elemental Protection I'm finally able to neutralize and close the gap against those infuriating high level mages and necromages and their insane fire and cold damage.

Now that I have archery where I want it (2nd level of Steady Hand perk), I'm pretty much just axe and shield now, and am bashing my way through just about every fight, and letting bad guys wail on me a little more, to level it up to 100 so I can get Shield Charge.  Seems the right thing for a Nord.

I was worried shield combat was going to suck like it did in Oblivion, but Bethesda did not disappoint this time around.

Two things that caught my eye in version 1.3.7.0:

1) The tutorial dialogue boxes are suddenly back. So, when I entered a shop I got an explanation about how the merchant's screen works. Same goes for the smithing tools.

2) When I fast traveled to the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon (a quest which I did earlier), the cell appeared to be reset. I was attacked by deadra and the cell inside the shrine was also reset. Deadra inside and the loot was also there. At least I got some extra hearts and this time it got me the Amulet of Extreme Smithing. ;)

Does anyone else have issues like these in the new patch?

All dungeons and loot respawn....it will always happen. In Oblivion there was a reset of loot and enemies every 72 in-game hours...not sure what it is in Skyrim.

I haven't gotten to Mehrunes Dagon's Shrine. I'm Level 38, 119 hours in and finally went into and explored Solitude.

I had that happening to me from the beginning with Dagon's Shrine and a couple other areas. I think it was Hag's End, where there is one Hagraven that will purposefully disappear on you as you progress through the dungeon, and I know I cleared it out dozens of hours eariler. But I went back there for another quest and everyone had repopulated, including the vanishing Hagraven.

That still doesn't doesn't explain the tutorial dialogue boxes and I did Dagon's quest recently.

Ah. Thanks. So that can happen and that is not a side effect of the patch. I can understand days, but not hours.

Edit: The thing is... I have never seen any cell repopulate in Skyrim. This was the first time. So, it seems that maybe the patch fixed this bug for me.

This was one of the very first quests that I did. I sided with Kematu. It's a dilemma to be sure. What if you chose the wrong one?

Ah, well. I get coin either way ;).

I've only really explored Solitude, Whiterun, and Riften. I've been to most cities though; the guild quests seem to send you to new cities.

Is there any way to clean up Riften? Sort of like the quest to exterminate the Dark Brotherhood, can you wipe out the thieves' guild and clear out the Blackbriars?

I wish the payout for the Gauldur amulet would have been a little better. Of course, I'm jaded, as I got the quest around level 10, but waited until level 48/49 to actually finish it up.

At a lower level, that amulet would be great; as it was, that thing went right into a drawer. At least it's not stuck in my inventory anymore.

I guess I'm in the minority for agreeing to help Saadia. Admittedly it was partly because I wanted to kill the Alik'r for their scimitars (before realising they're worthless weapons), but also I figured that she'd just been working in a tavern since coming to Skyrim, and as far as I know, keeping out of trouble. So whatever she may have done before felt irrelevant. And her attempt to threaten me in the tavern was so pathetic that I felt sorry for her. I also know pretty much nothing about the Alik'r, so all I was basing my judgement of them on was the fact that a group of men with swords, hiding in a cave, wanted me to hand a barmaid over to them.
