I did that quest line and enjoyed it.

Although I did not kill the forsworn boss myself.
I thought I could find him later and pulverize him like the little bastard he was but NOOO.

Ah well just have to keep killing his followers and hope that Ulfric sweeps them out later.

I found him later. When I did the Daedric abandoned house quest (Molag Bal, I believe) in Markarth, I had to go rescue a priest from a cave, and bring him to that house. Well...Madanach was in that cave, along with a bunch of Forsworn who acted like friendlies.

I wanted to escape on my own but found it next to impossible as an archer to do so. So I followed Madanach and the Forsworn prisnors through the Dwemer ruins, let them kill eveything, got to the exit where Madanach gave me my equipment, welcomed me into the Forsworn, and gave me special gear - Armor of the Old Gods - then sniped him in the head with a daedric arrow, capturing his soul in the process, and strolled out of there.

That's what I did too. Actually, I did that quest pretty early on in the playthrough, and it was a long time before I got better armor (it was pretty good for my low-level character!)

So does anyone know here when joining the Stormcloaks makes most sense to the story? I mean, I'm currently doing all kind of side quests and am currently on the main quest where I'm supposeed to fetch a thing for the Graybeards, but b/c of role playing purposes, I don't wanna do the main quest to soon so it clunks to an end or complete all the major citys before joining the Stormcloaks.

So when is a good time to join the Stormcloaks? Like it would make sense to the story.

Thanks happy! You just made me.....happy. :D

Aww crap, I might have misled you. Here's what it says in the ES wiki, "The location of Logrolf the Willful is random, any forsworn camp can host him. Travel to his location and free him, be sure all enemies at his location are dealt with as he will immediately run to Markarth."

I'm going to cross my fingers that you get lucky. Image IPB

It depends on when you want to do it. For myself, I'm waiting until I am arch-mage so i can roleplay in my story that Gammameggon, Arch-Mage of Skyrim, joined and led the Stormcloaks to victory as Arch-Mage. Ala Gandalf, kinda. Gandalf was a wizard, but he was obviously a mage. I am doing the same in my own story.

Somewhere down the road, Skyrim may fall. The Aldmeri Dominion is powerful and full of hatred towards mortals. But that tale isn't left up to Gammameggon. Gammameggon will liberate Skyrim, allow the memory of Tiber Septim to dwell as an ember in the hearts and minds of mortals, and await the next chapter and prophetic Elder Scroll event. Another hero must eventually rise for that. Gammameggon won't defeat the Aldmeri Dominion.

My focus is on Alduin, World-Eater, as well, and the mystery surrounding his return. For if I cannot stop the return of the dragons, all is lost.

I am always lucky.

Except when I am not.
Like when I forget to save before dying in a terribly silly manner and have to redo at least 20 mins.

I waited to pick sides until I was 200+ hours into my first playthrough, but not particularly far into the main quest. I'd visited the Greybeards, and started the Blades, but that's about it.

I'd caution that if you want to buy the house in Windhelm, you may need to trigger (and complete) the Blood on the Ice quests first.

My husband sided with the Stormcloaks before that event triggered, and is not able to buy the house. He's spent much time trying to get it to trigger, but Jorleif keeps telling him that "there has been unpleasantness recently". He said he's talked to everyone in the city many times, and has been everywhere many times, all times of day, and it still won't trigger.

That is why Sanguine is my fave prince.

"Maybe getting some help from your old uncle Sanguine..."
Added to that he was just having fun with you and not treating you like an insect as well.

All in all I think that in terms of my fave prince its:
Azura, Sheogorath, then Sanguine.

When I saw this I was like "NOOOO! We just became friends too!" But did you find Veezara? I couldn't find his body.

I found him somewhere inside not far from where he normally sat.

I don't understand why people want to kill Madanach. He's twice the man that Ulfric is, and he has twice the right to be the High King (of the Reach).

Madanach basically storms off and kills all guards in Markarth half-naked with 3 half-naked friends. What does Ulfric do? Sucker-thu'um the High King then run off like a little girl.

It's amazing for all the claims about Nord superiority, one basically encounters the exact opposite at every step.

Edit: The Darkbrotherhood deaths.

So I re-did Narmina's daedric quest again after getting my oblivion walker achievement and decided to follow it right up to when they want me to kill the priest, so I killed all of them instead. Then nearly all the named people in Markarth became hostile towards me. What? was the entire city a giant cannibal society?

Oh and I've now experienced my first dragon bug, flying backwards then launching off into orbit and all that, Bethesda really need to fix that quickly.

Hmm, last week's patch fixed those for me.  Hopefully it's a random non-recurring bug for you.

The Nords are much like the Vikings and Spartans, for all the bluster and greatness, historically, when faced with a foe, they tend to look down on them and then well...get there butts handed to them. One died out as it lacked cultural influences of its own, the other pissed off Rome and had all of its people wiped out. Both live on in hollywood and Dorm rooms. Which is ironic in a manner.

Actually the stormcloaks are much like the idiot ****s who believes in Nord superiority over all others. Nords in general value honor and loyalty above all else period. That is why so many want to stay with the Empire even though they banned the worship of Talos.

Speaking of Markarth, did anyone else allow themselves to be taken prisoner during the "Forsworn Conspiracy?" Which leads directly to "No One Escapes Cidhna Mine."

And if you did, when you were banished to the mines, did you end up dual-wielding a pair of stupid pickaxes like me!!?? Man, what a difference that was to my pair of smithed-up, enchanted, Dwarven fire-axes. After I killed Madanach (who was a surprisingly accomplished mage--and took forever to kill with my new found weapons), and escaped into the Dwemer ruins, I did take the time to kill the 2 frost spiders, but admit, a bit further on, I had to sprint past the Dwarven Spheres because I was taking major damage (zero armor protection) and felt like I was swinging a feather at cast iron.

After I exited, got my pardon, met Mjoll, and got all my crap back, I did re-enter the ruins and proceeded to bash those Spheres to smithereens. I must say though, it was quite an interesting quest if you haven't done it. Epic brawl with Borkul the Beast, BTW.

Niiiice!  THAT's a well played and much more satisfying end to that quest.  My Dragonborn, unfortunately, is a bit more on the impulsive and hotheaded side. Confrontations tend to escalate, get up close and personal, and really get out of hand (and lethal) quickly. Image IPB

LOL. Yes, the Nords are genocidal supremacists who conquer nations and cart their citizens off to torment and death simply for worshiping a different god not being Nords.

...oh wait, I'm sorry - I meant to say Thalmor, not Nords. It's easy to get those two confused, apparently - and even easier to harp on one while forgetting about the other.

No, the Empire had its day in the sun - and that day ended when Martin Septim sacrificed himself to defeat Mehrunes Dagon. Now it's just an empty, broken husk of what it used to be with a false Emperor as its figurehead, and the Aldmeri Dominion pulling the strings as the de facto rulers.

The Empire has left most of its citizens with little reason to trust or remain loyal to it - it threw Hammerfell to the wolves, conceded to its sworn enemy after a hard-won victory and let the Thalmor march in, in all their fascist glory, to conduct witchhunts on its own citizens and allow them to be imprisoned, tortured, and killed.

That certainly wouldn't inspire much loyalty in me were I a citizen of the Empire - and I don't expect it to inspire the loyalty of anyone else who would rather die fighting than be left to the "mercies" of the Aldmeri Dominion.

...

...wow, that was quite a speech. Perhaps I should be the High King of Skyrim. :P

Ulfirc is just as much a Thalmor puppet as the Empire.

Unless we are discounting the Thalmor dossier on him.

Heh.. yeah, I played along with Madanoch to get out. But my Nord was holding a massive grudge against all Forsworn since the first time he went into Markarth they killed his horse. So I let the Forsworn have their fun and escape and then I followed them all the way back to their camp. Took a stroll inside with all the Forsworn thinking my Nord was their new BFF, scoping out the place. Left, geared up and murder knifed all of them in their sleep:ph34r:

Well, I don't know how much of a puppet he is if he ends up winning the war. Since I think that dossier basically says its in the Thalmor's best interest if the civil war gets dragged out and there is no clear winner. They don't want Ulfric winning just as much as they don't want the Empire definitively winning. But on the other hand, the difference between the Stormcloaks and Empire is that the Stormcloaks seem openly hostile to the Thalmor while the Empire at least seems to be appeasing them. Cause even if the Empire is secretly biding their time to strike back, by that time, who is to say that any of their subjects will be willing to fight for them if they view the Empire as being complicit in kowtowing to the Thalmor?

The dossier also states that he was only made an "agent" after significant interrogation at Thalmor hands, and has become "uncooperative" since the Markarth Incident - and assuming you aid the Stormcloaks drive out the Empire, it actually throws a wrench in the Thalmor's plans because their goal along was to keep Skyrim in a perpetual state of civil war.

Besides, should it turn out that Ulfric is a puppet as you say, it's much easier to get rid of and supplant a single "agent", than it would be to try to rein in an Empire riddled with Thalmor agents who monitor its every move.
