I find it amazing how some people's standards of evidence so often boil down to 'if it makes Ulfric look good, it's in; if it makes Ulfric look bad, it's obviously lies and propaganda'.Image IPB

Basically I don't think arguing over his issue nets any answers. You people have already made up your mind and are then sorting the facts to fit your conclusion.

It's up to Bethesda to decide the outcome anyway. *shrugs*

I think it's good that both General Tullis and Ulfric Stormcloak are not one-dimensional characters, and that there are different views that can be held of both characters and their current (and past) actions. I like the fact that neither one of them is a saint, and both of them represent factions that have good and bad aspects to them. It all boils down to a matter of opinion and what we think might be true, because we are likely never going to know how much is accurate, and how much is bias, about events that are outside the knowledge of our protagonist. If nothing else, the one thing Tullius and Ulfric have in common is both men despise the Thalmor.

I see Madanach the same way, as a character who doesn't simply wear a white or black hat; he has genuine reasons to feel the way he does because of what happened to the Reach and his people, but the Forsworn don't simply attack their aggressors - they attack pretty much everyone who isn't one of them, including the protagonist (even if he aids Madanach against Thonar Silver-Blood and becomes a hero to the disenfranchised of the Warrens).

both madanach and thonar are rotten scumbags. I sided with madanach until he killed Thonar, and then I killed Madanach and his gang immedeatly after

It's amazing for all the claims about Nord superiority, one basically encounters the exact opposite at every step.

what we have so far are only skins, textures, and recolors

Bethesda has not yet released modding tools for skyrim

I also agree that I love that the main characters in the civil war quest line are all grey. The Thalmor dossier on Ulfric is a brilliant little wrench thrown in the works, though so ambigous- no doubt deliberately to encourage debates like this!

Madanach I don't put quite into the same category. I had hoped for more from the Forsworn quest line, tbh. Initially I was hoping there might be some compromise between the Nords and Forsworn against the empire, but Madanach is all RAWR and thus his sob stories carried no weight. At least for a Nord PC, I thought.

Yeah it was nice of bethesda to even acknowledge marriage and romance but I wish they could have taken it a bit farther. There are lots of npc's out there that use the same voiceactor as the one's we already can marry, but for superficial reasons we can't.

I also understand the general reasoning behind the brief "courting" ceremony, both for gameplay and story, but I really wished they could have added a small quest or something to pad it out, maybe even add some quests for the family itself once you have one.

Right now as it is, wives don't really do anything, even with roleplaying. Food is essentially worthless gameplay-wise, and unless you have a spouse that can travel the store isn't very useful.

the entire marriage deal in skyrim was kind of a shallow joke

"oh hey guise, all the popular RPGS have a romance mechanic, let's get in on the slice!"

*takes a couple minutes to record some lines*

don't worry though, there will definitely be mods to address this issue

So...I just got the final perk in the Block tree.
Or as I like to call it the bowling perk.

Seeing bears, mooks, bandits, and anything short of dragons and giants go airborne is hilarious.
Almost cartoony since I can bounce a bear over my PC's head with it but the BONK sound effect is awesome.

What do you mean, shallow? Mjoll called me her "love".

Image IPB Just kidding.

@Giggles - that sounds pretty funny, actually. BTW, did you find Madanach?

It's actually hilarious how Anerin still follows her around even if you are married to her

You know, I was glad to have Sinderion's lab right at the entrance.

Sinderion...  Image IPB  I had been thinking about him all game, every time I picked up a nirnroot.  That was gutting to find his body.  Though a nice little touch.

Blackreach was an amazing WTF?!!! revelation, the same as the Dwemer ruins.  Though I could not get out of Blackreach fast enough and will probably never do it justice.  It's got the same dark-light contrast as Bioshock that is sure to give me a migraine.  And it felt so claustrophobic and creepy, and.... creepy.

Yeah, felt the same about finding Sinderion's bones.

Bleackreach is fine as long as you stay along the cobblestones.  But wandering out into the darkness, (which I am utterly compelled to do) with that combination of sheer blackness, coupled with that annoying horizon glow, (and, oh, that mist), well...it really start to grate on you after a while.  A random dungeon to dive is a welcome respite until you have to go back out.

Good news is that it is quite rewarding to wander about.  Lotta loot, and I ran into a freaking giant out there.  Weird place.  Reminds me in an ES sort of way of it's version of the otherworldly weirdness of Big Mountain and OWB.

Does anyone really want cheesy sex scenes and canned romance lines in the game? Really?

So they have some sort of co-dependant relationship going on the side?

I was planning to marry Marcurio, but a Falmer killed him when I wasn't looking and I saved over the save with him still alive. <_< Maybe I'll snag him on the next go-around...although I'm still bitter I can't have Brynjolf.

I kept doing it to the same people because I found it so funny.

It's funny how the Forsworn have the same goals as the Stormcloaks, i.e. purging the lands they view as their own off  "outlanders".  But Madanach and his Forsworn are at least honest about it. Madanach straight out tells you that your character's going to get killed in any Forsworn camp even though you helped them.

Ulfric never speaks straight, even though every Stormcloak grunt spouts drivel about "true sons and daughters of Skyrim" (ha!) and all his lieutenants can't stop speaking about "killing the traitors".

It's also striking how some Jarls loyal to Ulfric mention that he's in it for his own glory, even though they agree with his cause.

Yeah, that's all well and good - except the Stormcloaks aren't violent barbarians who worship Hagravens, practice dark magic, animal (and people) mutilation, cannibalism, childnapping (from a Breton family, no less), and all sorts of other wonderful things befitting a friendly, civilized culture like what the Forsworn have.

And I find it equally striking how several of the Jarls who say that about Ulfric are guilty of that themselves - especially Laila Law-Giver (a true coward) who is nothing more than Maven Black-Briar's little pet.

I never got the impression that Laila Law-Giver had an actual opinion about Jarl Ulfric - I figured that Maven was covering her bases by having her puppet leader side with the Stormcloaks, while she sided with the Legion. I doubt Laila so much as sneezed without Maven's approval.

Yeah, his "blood on the walls" and "kill this innocent fella over here, and you're one of us" BS, didn't really brief well to my Nord.  He was pretty much asking for an ass kicking from my hotheaded Nord, dual-wielding his "Pickaxes of Eminent Mediocrity!"

I don't believe there is, especially given what happens in Riften if the protagonist sides with the Legion.

Dude, I am so jealous.  I'm only a few points away.  I spent too much time levelling my bow and one-handed by dual wielding, that I was ignoring my shield for far too long (which is very unusual for me).  I've spent an inordinant amount of searching for giants, mammoths, and dragons just so they can pound on my shield for a while just to level it faster to get that final bowling perk.  I've even put off the disarm perk because I WANT people to hit me...repeatedly!

I'm almost there...and I...can...not...wait.

Bears and Frost Tolls are excellent for raising shield skills, and they are everywhere. :wizard: I used a mud crab to max out my heavy armor. (Just don't take a follower or they will kill useful enemies lol)

Hehe.  I think they went a little overboard on the "look, the Nords are guilty too!" angle.  Anyone who knows the lore at all already knows that Tiber Septim was a brutal guy.  And elsewhere you hear about the first Nords slaughtering the Falmer and other earlier inhabitants.  Madanach had a lot of potential, but wanted for subtlety.

Aren't the Forsworn extremly anti Nordic? Leaving their chaotic evil tendencies aside I think it would make more sense for them to side with the Empire, before they would decide to fight with their sworn enemy who took away their land.

The forsworn are, or were Bretons, right?
