Madanach I don't put quite into the same category. I had hoped for more from the Forsworn quest line, tbh. Initially I was hoping there might be some compromise between the Nords and Forsworn against the empire, but Madanach is all RAWR and thus his sob stories carried no weight. At least for a Nord PC, I thought.

Aren't the Forsworn extremly anti Nordic? Leaving their chaotic evil tendencies aside I think it would make more sense for them to side with the Empire, before they would decide to fight with their sworn enemy who took away their land.

The forsworn are, or were Bretons, right?

I think it's safe to state that the Forsworn are violently opposed to the Nords. According to "Madmen of the Reach," it explains their goal and why they aren't going to ally with the Empire:

"You want to know who the Forsworn are? We are the people who must pillage our own land. Burn our own ground. We are the scourge of the Nords. The axe that falls in the dark. The scream before the gods claim your soul. We are the true sons and daughters of the Reach. The spirits and hags have lived here from the beginning, and they are on our side. Go back. Go back and tell your Empire that we will have our own kingdom again. And on that day, we will be the ones burying your dead in a land that is no longer yours."

They let him escape, that's kinda the part you're missing.

They claim that they let him escape.  The whole document was written by Thalmor agents kissing up to their superiors, and the Altmer do not admit weakness or failure.  What else are they going to say?

And besides your bias do you have anything to argue against it? Any game proof?

It's not a matter of proof or not.  You unfortunately don't even get an option to ask Ulfric about it.  I'm just giving my interpretation.  You're free to take a different one, but you've got no more "proof" than anyone else.  I said that the whole document had a CYA and "we meant to do that" vibe- I didn't say "this is the way it is."

The thing is that many people seem to take the dossier at face value, just as they take The Bear of Markarth or other books at face value without considering who's writing it and interpretive spin.  People also seem to believe the Thalmor hype about them being infallible, unstoppable, etc.  It's kind of ironic.

An interpretation that you then use as a fact? Not happening. The Civil War was instigated by the Thalmor since it suited their interests, that it might not end the way they want it is another matter.

So yes, Ulfric is not a perfect man and I wish people would try and distort facts just to make someone look worse or better then they are, and as someone who argued for Loghain for months ( a much bigger black sheep then Ulfric will ever be ) then I can safely say you won't convince anyone with this kind of thinking.

Frankly characterization in the game is ****** poor comapred to Bioware/Obsidian/CD Projekt RED

No instead I found that I enjoyed bowling with my sheild to much.
I kept doing it to the same people because I found it so funny.

It well worth the investment to get.

My blocking skill at the end of my first playthrough was like...20, and I think that's where it started. For some reason, I just don't block. I just forget; I have no idea why. I don't even know you could do a shield bash until a couple of days ago, when I read it on here.

But then again, I really didn't sneak the first time around, either. I was in such a big, self-inflicted hurry to GO GO GO that I didn't take my time with anything.

Well poor old Madanach is now in Soverngarde! Seriously though its utterly insane what a back stab can do.

88 damage for the Blade of Woe X 30 from the Assassins Blade Perk X 2 from the Shrouded gloves.
So for a total of 5280 damage a hit nothing really stands up to that.

That is also not taking into account that I get a crit hit on 25% of those as well.
At level 49 nothing much besides those ancient dragons give me pause anymore.

Outside of those bastard Brierhearts.....Oh boy backstabbing them is cathartic.

Spread disorder (siding with the Forsworn, ect), don't kill any Thalmor you encounter, ignore the main quest and keep the war going. Can't officially side with them, though you can try.

So...I just got the final perk in the Block tree.
Or as I like to call it the bowling perk.

Seeing bears, mooks, bandits, and anything short of dragons and giants go airborne is hilarious.
Almost cartoony since I can bounce a bear over my PC's head with it but the BONK sound effect is awesome.

...I need to do this.

I ran into a cave bear.
It bounced over my head.
Then rolled down the hill, hit a rock and died.

Also there is a neat impaling animation if your enemy is knocked to the ground you get where the PC reverses their weapon and drives it into the mook on the ground.

Honestly with this build I feel unstoppable,

*sigh*  No.  An interpretation I use as an interpretation.

The Civil War was instigated by the Thalmor since it suited their interests, that it might not end the way they want it is another matter.

You don't know that.  The civil war was started by Ulfric, that's all we really know for sure because it is confirmed from multiple sources and not just Thalmor say-so.

I'm not... distorting facts...?  I have my view and you have yours.  You seem comfortable with holding forth on your opinions confidently, but don't grant others the same.

And I disagree entirely about the characterization.  Madanach was a disappointment, but others have been great.

I find it amazing how some people's standards of evidence so often boil down to 'if it makes Ulfric look good, it's in; if it makes Ulfric look bad, it's obviously lies and propaganda'.:P

Basically I don't think arguing over his issue nets any answers. You people have already made up your mind and are then sorting the facts to fit your conclusion.

It's up to Bethesda to decide the outcome anyway. *shrugs*

The same could be said of those who support the Empire - but you're right. It does feel like we're beating a dead horse, so I'll just drop out of the Empire vs. Stormcloak discussion for now.

Anyway, I just started a new game yesterday, and am going to skip Whiterun and go straight to Windhelm to join the rebellion - I'm curious to see how the game will play out if I depose Balgruuf before ever speaking to him about the dragons, and how the rest of the main quest will play out with Vignar as Jarl.

I was planning on doing that as well but in the end I didn't want to add to my 4 current characters

Shadowmere can do anything. There was this quest from the college in which the town near it was attacked by flying magical beings. No problem for Shadowmere. It turns out she can even fly. :P

I sided with the stormcloaks but I felt really bad about exiling jarl balgruuf, because he helped me capture a dragon and was the first jarl to accept me

I liked Balgruuf, until he called me a milk-drinker.  Them's fightin words.  lol

No, I still like him, in fact I respect him more than Elisif by a long shot, and I heart Irileth completely.  His grumpy replacement is kind of funny.  "I was done talkin' anyway."  Grumpiness must be in the water up there.

I can't say I really like anything the Stormcloaks do to Whiterun. Putting an Ulfric bootlicker in the Jarls chair doesn't exactly fill me with optimism either.

That quest gave me heartburn both before and after, but it's realistic to such a power struggle. I would have preferred if Balgruuf had been able to find it in himself to make a deal. Ulfric let Elisif keep her jarldom, so I'm sure he would have let Balgruuf, too, if the latter had been willing to knuckle under. The fact that he doesn't makes me respect him more, but it also means he has to go.

Vignar's not really a bootlicker, he jut despises that Barlgruuf just lay down and took the banning of Talos. Also Vignar Grey-Mane is a kind hearted badass.

What, even Jarl Ravencrone gets deposed? Wasn't she neutral anyway?

All Stormcloak supporting jarls are total asses. Skald in Dawnstar, that clown in Winterhold, that clueless chick in Riften... urgh. I'll never be able to join the Stormcloaks.

If only it were possible to kill Ulfric immediately upon entering the Palace of Kings. Right in the middle of his unconvincing, soulless speech.

What the Stormcloak supporters fail to understand is that the banning of Talos worship is just on paper (until Ulfric invited the Thalmor into Skyrim by openly defying the White-Gold concordat). Notice Heimskr preaching about Talos in Whiterun the entire day.

Another war between Aldmeri Dominion and Empire is an inevitability, and what is the first thing that's going to happen when this war breaks out? The White-Gold concordat is going into the paper shredder.

Assassin's bladegives x 15, x 30 with shrouded gloves.

Unless you're dual wielding Blade of woe, but there's only one in the game?
