College of Winterhold I believe. The quest where you retrive some books from rogue mages.

Awesome, thanks! I haven't started that quest line in this new playthrough yet. Image IPB

Actually, I ran into that site long before I did that quest. I killed them all. But what is interesting is that it stayed littered with bodies up until I did the quest and lo, and behold, it was as if I never came by and slaughtered them.

Well, to me, that just meant more to loot and more robes to sell!

Edit: This is strange. I have investigated the fletcher some more and found a bug. I first thought it had to do with selling him arrows or a number of items, but that's not the case:

Whenever the fletcher runs out of money then I save the game. Exit to Windows then reload that last saved game and his money has been reset and I can continue selling. I can repeat that as long as I like. Weird. :P

AngryFrozenWater wrote...

Edited my previous post about a bug that I can use as an exploit.

I wish someone could verify that.

Yes. I've just tried that on Ulfbert War-Bear (Warmaiden's shopkeeper in Whiterun).
Saved the game with his gold = 0 and then after quitting to desktop and reloading that save he had all his money back.

Probably every single shopkeeper in the game is bugged like that.

Thanks. :)

Can you verify another merchant bug? It is a simple one.

Save the game. Sell at least one item to a merchant. Before you sell it check his money and remember the amount. Lets call that value X. Sell the item. Check his money again. We call that value Y. Now reload the game, but don't exit to Windows. Just reload the game. Check his money again. It should be equal to X, but it s not and it will be equal to Y.

That one is annoying me. Whenever I make a booboo, I have to exit to Windows and then reload the game, otherwise the merchant has less money to spend. ;)

Hehehe Image IPB There something completely broken here. I did as you said - but in my case it was the other way around - he had more cash after reloading.

Saving the game

Now selling some glass armor (worth 412 gold).

And now after reloading the saved game

What, even Jarl Ravencrone gets deposed? Wasn't she neutral anyway?

Legate Taurinus Duilis is stationed at her Hold. She does attend the gathering at the Thalmor Embassy, but then again she might have gone because she "knew" the Dragonborn could need her help.

virumor wrote...

All Stormcloak supporting jarls are total asses. Skald in Dawnstar, that clown in Winterhold, that clueless chick in Riften... urgh. I'll never be able to join the Stormcloaks.

I agree. I think Brina Merilis is much more effective as the Jarl of Dawnstar, given how inept Skald is as Jarl. Frida even mentions that people go to Brina to get matters resolved in Dawnstar rather than Jarl Skald, while Jod tries to sway the Jarl against irrational decisions to no avail.

Jarl Korir and Thaena of Winterhold make their disdain for the mages abundantly clear, and their son Assur makes it clear that his father doesn't like elves. Not exactly the most optimistic future for my Dunmer mage turned Arch-mage. He prefers Kraldar as Jarl, although there's so little of Winterhold left that I'm not certain it really matters (aside from the POV of a protagonist who is a member of the College).

Brunwulf Free-Winter has progressive ideas for Windhelm, while Riften... well, not much really changes with Riften either way.

virumor wrote...

What the Stormcloak supporters fail to understand is that the banning of Talos worship is just on paper (until Ulfric invited the Thalmor into Skyrim by openly defying the White-Gold concordat). Notice Heimskr preaching about Talos in Whiterun the entire day.

Another war between Aldmeri Dominion and Empire is an inevitability, and what is the first thing that's going to happen when this war breaks out? The White-Gold concordat is going into the paper shredder.

Heimskr admits to bribing guards as the reason he can preach in public all day, and the Empire allowed the Thalmor to root out Talos worship with the White-Gold Concordat throughout the Empire.

Well poor old Madanach is now in Soverngarde! Seriously though its utterly insane what a back stab can do.

88 damage for the Blade of Woe X 30 from the Assassins Blade Perk X 2 from the Shrouded gloves.
So for a total of 5280 damage a hit nothing really stands up to that.

That is also not taking into account that I get a crit hit on 25% of those as well.
At level 49 nothing much besides those ancient dragons give me pause anymore.

Outside of those bastard Brierhearts.....Oh boy backstabbing them is cathartic.

Assassin's bladegives x 15, x 30 with shrouded gloves.

Unless you're dual wielding Blade of woe, but there's only one in the game?

I heard you could pickpicket the Blade of Woe from Astir when you initially meet her, if you have the Misdirection perk.

Do you happen to remember whgat dungeion it was in as I don't even remember that one on my first play through of course I didn't hit every area either.

As for my current play through a Female Redguard she's getting ready to start the Mage college quests. All I'm goin got do is to the main quest line for that one up til I get access to the Arch Mages quarters. As for the smaller quest they don't interest me for the mages.

@xkg: I have more merchant bugs, but I am still testing those.

I take it you only saved the game before selling, right?

But, yeah. Something is very wrong with merchants.

Here's one: If your spouse is a merchant she will sell her wedding ring. :P

Yeah, unfortunately that's really true.  lol  I was also sad about Ingrod.  I think she wanted to be neutral but her steward has you take a letter to the commander in Solitude saying "it's time, things need to change."  So I think he's the one calling in imperial troops.  But if she's in the basement, it means she was deposed, and that means she wasn't willing to acknowledge Ulfric's claim- judging by how he handles Elisif.

Based on what Captain Aldis said, it seems like Gorm is trying to usurp the role of Jarl from Ravencrone when you hand him the letter. Unfortunately for Gorm, Aldis admits it's "impossible."

So, I just stumbled upon a save called Sightless Pit - it's full of Falmer, apparently. Has anyone here been to it? My new character is level 10, and I'm wondering if he can handle the place.

Lol, that place has given me a cave trauma. I happily jumped into that pit at level 6. It was a death sentence. First part was okay, but when you have to jump down to go deeper, my companion didn't follow, so I was all by myself when I ran into more and more Falmer. Eventually I had to reload to before I got into that damned place. Then I got roasted by a dragon, because I was fleeing from that one when I jumped into the pit.:pinched:

Okay... I never actually delivered his letter, after reading it and realizing that some imperial tomfoolery was going on.  Image IPB

Falmer would be very difficult at a low level.  Especially if it's a cave where you're fighting chaurus and Falmer all at once.  *ouch*  Divines help you if there are also any dwarven machines in there.

The rewards are pretty good for fighting Falmer, though, especially if you're a poison mixer.  When I was at low level on my assassin/ alchemist, I went in to a couple caves and just cleared out the first room or two which are usually easier, then backed out.  Falmer equipment is worthless to sell but pretty good to use, especially if you pick up some chaurus chitin and improve it at a workbench.  Poison resist potions/ equipment helps.

Okay, I just used the Restoration Potion exploit to level my Alchemy Skill. It was the one skill I could not level without spending an insane amout of money and time gathering ingredients and OMG, I made 5 potions and my Alchemy jumped from 83 to 100 and my enchanted Alchemy gear effects increased dramatically. From five 20% Fortify Almchemy enchantments to a near 1000% cumulative increase. I didn't use the exploit to enchant or smith any items, that would seriously break the game, I let the effects wear off, but this is a supremely efficient way to level Alchemy.

EDIT: Scratch that 1000% it's more like 1 000 000 000%

Haha, well, the nasty thing with Sightless Pit is that you can't go back the way you came from. When you enter you let yourself fall into a hole, so to say. And you can't climb back up. =]And then inside the dungeon you have to let yourself fall to various ledges to go further, and you can't get up that way either. So you're forced to venture further into the Falmer pit, or reload to a save from before you entered.

OMG, I hate those and Falmer pretty much equally. I'd take a dungeon full of dragons, Centurion Masters, bandits, conjurers...anything over those two. Heck, I'd even throw in Forsworn Briar Hearts.

Falmer bosses are level scaled, they go from Gloomlurker -> Shadowmaster -> something else. So it doesn't matter on which level you enter.

I didn't have much trouble with any of them in my last playthrough, once I'd gotten my skill levels high enough, but I'm finding all of them a challenge with my new Bosmer archer.

How on earth do you guys do it with archery? The only way I survive in some of these dungeons is to pull out my war axe and go to town. I even started using a shield, but all of that kind of blows my archery plans for this character.

I think I'm just too impatient. It took me forever to get through the dungeon for the first piece of Wuuthrad last night, as I tried to stick to the sneak + archery idea.

When I first went in, I was around level 7, and was level 10 by the time I left. Crazy.

I just need to stick with it, I guess. But it's so much faster to just rush in and start pounding peeps to their death. /whine

It's no wonder my mage playthrough didn't end up having anything to do with spellcasting, and turned into a brutal one-handed slaughterfest. I think I'm destined to play the same way every time.

It matters if you're not able to kill them.

I went into a dungeon that I recognized from my previous character, thinking "surely since my character is low level there won't be a Dwemer centurion and a Falmer mage in the same room like before."  Famous last words.

Image IPB My playthrough style, so far, has all the subtlety of half a brick in a sock. All that's missing is someone shouting Leeeeeroy Jenkins! Doing it on expert has got me killed a few times, but it's proved quite succesful suprisingly!

I don't use any companions. Master difficulty is much easier as an Assassin type character and well Lydia kept screwing everything up!

Maybe I'm just fooling myself by thinking I can be subtle and sneaky. I'm not that way in life, maybe I can't be that way in a game? Image IPB
