How do you do that "assassin animation" when you come from behind and want to assassinate someone? Is it a perk?

No, it's not. It's a common killing animation. Doesn't happen all the time and with all targets. I'd think that targets HP has some influence. But even my char with no perks on thief's skills whatsoever can get it just with my stealth enchanted items. =)

Patrolling the streets of riften at night

My character is a lawful Good Assasin. Though I sided with the stormcloaks with the only reason being that I'm mad they tried to cutt my head off

Their other senses are highly attuned to compensate for vision loss - enough that they can pinpoint the location of their quarry without actually seeing it. Many real life animals can do the same thing.

Don't take the perk, it's a waste, really. Just cast muffle.

My character is a non-magic user - plus you still need the perk to get Silent Roll and Silence (both very useful for Heavy Armor wearers like me).

I'm running out of things to do so I'm thinking of starting a new character, a Khajiit Male. What skills do you guys think I should focus on?(I'm thinking a magic hybrid characters ie. Spellblade or something like that).

Go pure magic.

They probably evolved highly powerful sonar abilities.

I recently made the switch to heavy armor on my sneak archer and after casting muffle I don't make any noise. And at low levels everytime you cast the spell you will gain experience towards the next level and you can use that to put perks into other trees.

I'm not sure how useful silent roll will be for an archer as you don't need to be close to an enemy to kill them. When you're sneak is high you can sit in one spot and snipe. Enemies will even walk up to you and still not see you. And to get Silent Roll you have to have Light Foot which is a complete waste because you can see every trap when you're sneaking around. Silence sounds good, but if you're not sneaking you don't don't get the triple damage bonus with your bows so I wouldn't take that either.

But that's just my two cents on archery.

You'll get it by doing quests for the Dark Brotherhood. Don't know which one that gives you that sword.

Actually, that's Dawnbreaker, and you get it as a reward for Break of Dawn, Meridia's Daedric quest.

OMG, I can't tell you how many times Lydia died in that quest. I did that one before I realized it was me who was killing her (Doh!) with what I thought were friendly taps. I reloaded many times, abandoned the quest right at the end, then picked it up later. It was much easier at that point.

I heard that people can hear you casting muffle? Which would be daft, if true. That's when I stopped training Illusion on my assassin. She'll get by on her invisibility potions and sneak.

The Thieves' Guild quest line is so much fun. I did the quest to get to Cacelmo's book last night. That was awesome.

They sure can hear it. I had a guard in Markarth come up to me and ask me to stop with the magic casting, because it was scaring people.

I was spamming Illusion at the time. Image IPB

Meh those guys are pathetic if you max out the block tree.

I didn't have much trouble with any of them in my last playthrough, once I'd gotten my skill levels high enough, but I'm finding all of them a challenge with my new Bosmer archer.

How on earth do you guys do it with archery? The only way I survive in some of these dungeons is to pull out my war axe and go to town. I even started using a shield, but all of that kind of blows my archery plans for this character.

For combat, I generally remain in 3rd person; for Sniping, I go into 1st person view for a bit clearer targetting image. And Eage Eye & Steady Hand perks help, too.

As for archery as a whole, Stealth is the main factor for my play, as it allows me to find nests and tactical positions allowing plenty of time for kills. Plus a couple Stealth perks allows for multiple dmg for both Archery and One Handed sneak Attacks.

They can hear it if you're too close. I cast it before I go into a dungeon, clear two rooms, cast it, clear next two rooms, cast it etc.

It lasts two minutes so you don't have to cast it too frequently.

Damn I wish I had fraps running.

I just sniped an entire camp of legionaries without any of them seeing me.
People sure do get some air off a bow hit though, one guy went flying it looked like.

If one thing in Skyrim is certain is that absolutely any class is fun to play. They all have their own uniqueness and they are all very viable as to beat anything in Master difficulty, as long as the perks were right for the class!

Stupid e.g., it would be stupid be an archer and invest in magic or two handed perks i/o archery/sneak. But any well built char can make the game easy and fun. I've probably decapitated more than 200 heads so far and I love it! (and playing different skills after all main ones are maxxed also is fun, challenging and rewarding with many extra perk points to play around - currently at level 60 I have some 6 unused perk points that I haven't decided where to spend since all I wanted I got)

And the Aura Whisper Shout also seems to wake up entire households; thank goodness for Auto-saves.

Thus far for Stealthy work in homes and shops, I recommend:

* Bows and arrows to place attention elsewhere.
* A fair stock of Invis potions.
* Conjure Familiar - Spirit wolf in the home really draws attention.
* Possible dropped items from upper floors.
* Plenty of rest and a good meal before and/or after assignments.
* Patience; just finished waiting for a few hours until the cranky husband decided to get a snack to make my exit.

Sorry, but magic is a great boon for my Stealthy Archer. I took a few perks in Restoration to combine Health and Stamina, and improve Magika Regen, and a few in Destruction for more for AoE support. The misc spells are good for distractions and buffs, and some offensive spells are decent for saving arrows on multiple small targets like Skeevers, spiders, etc.

And unlike many, I have no Alchemy or Enchant perks at all yet, so this should support the notion that many tacts may be used successfully.

Perhaps. It appears that one may require heavy support on Alteration spells for survival, and I have seen few decent staves in my game. Guess this is where Enchanting would be a boon.

But that does sound challenging; maybe my third character.

I don't have anything invested in enchanting and alchemy either. However, I do actively search for ingredients and keep them in a chest, though. Just in case I want to use it later on.

I didn't mean it like that. Of course magic perks will be useful for a Stealthy Archer that uses Magic too. You see, you have your own class/built and it works for you. I meant spending perk points in skills that you wouldn't use or increase high enough to have the best perks of the tree. But is very unlikely some gamer would do that. Spending perk points on perks that will be actually useful to you should work fine. And the possibilities of different char builts are so imense!   =)

hmm.. a pure mage with high level in a combo of magic schools should do very well, shouldn't it? There are some amazing spells and staves. Maybe summoned Daedras and Wabbajacking everything would work? I wouldn't know much though. I'm no caster and I hate playing mages! I do use Transmute and Healing spells but that's it.

Casting muffle? Why? I have Muffle and +48%sneak on my self made light assassin boots! As Sandal would say... Enchantment!!! :wizard:

I do much more than just archery, though - I often go in for one-handed instakills, especially in situations where using a bow is impractical (of which there are many). Silent Roll and Silence are invaluable for this purpose.

Yeah I think the deal is that you have a lot of flexibility in how you build your own class- which is one of the best things about Skyrim.  Image IPB  I thought I'd be using magic on my stealthy archer, but have invested in Alchemy and am beginning to invest in Enchanting and find that that more than covers the (very nice) basics that are not already built into Sneak and Archery.  If I need some magic support like a summons, I'll use a staff.
