Shame he probably is going to give the Dark Elves the boot, honestly my Dark Elf character when she walked into Windhelm was less them happy about how her fellows were getting treated.
Though getting to punch the crap out of that one racist was cathartic.

Why would he do that?  If he was going to do it, he'd have done it already.  There was no one to stop him in Windhelm.

People exaggerate his "racism" just as they exaggerate his brutality.

If I remember correctly, Ulfric was said to have been not too happy about the High King offering the Dunmer refuge.

They were trying to do it on the down-low and got caught.

The books don't contradict each other since both are trying to present the Forsworn as misunderstood and "noble savages." Well, I might have gone along with that before talking to Madanach, but he confirms all the stereotypes in the end.

Yeah, my Nord wasn't in the best of moods regarding the Forsworn, having whacked and bashed his way through throngs of them throughout the entire west of Skyrim.  He even attempted at his first encounter to sheath his weapons and "dialogue," sensing perhaps some injustice on the part of these people.  That didn't work out so well.  He might still have been persuaded as he talked to Madanach, but the moment he made the grievous error of blurting out the words "Nord" and "blood on the walls" in the same sentence, he pretty much ensured his own death sentence.

Just the way my Nord saw things.

LOL so I playing my sneaky archer duel weilding nord and got to Winterhold I had no intention of being a magic user next thing I know I'm outside the college deciding I'll be turned down for not having the spell.
Bam I'm in the school and i decide since i'm here I might as well get some spells I might need now I have quite a few. I was planning on roleplaying no magic and now I'm using shock spells a lot lol I'm a terrible roleplayer.
Not gonna let magic be the focus this time!!

I don't recall that anywhere, but the Dunmer have been in Skyrim for over a hundred years.  And again, he had total sovereignty over Windhelm after his rebellion and hasn't kicked the elves out yet.  He's keeping Argonians out, but this could be to keep the Dunmer and Argonians from going at each other.

That's a good point, Addai - Dunmer and Argonians have some bad blood between them because of a huge slave rebellion that drove many Dunmer out of Morrowind IIRC. I can't remember the exact details, but it's mentioned in a book somewhere.

Anyway, I seem to have run into a little problem: I can't get the quest "Blood on the Ice" to trigger. It usually triggered upon the second time I enter Windhelm in previous files, but for some reason isn't triggering this time. I hope it will trigger soon, for this particular save file's sake - I'll not continue another minute with it and start over again otherwise.

As an Argonian, I'm not liking Ulfric very much... but then again, the Dunmer are living in slums.

Black Marsh invaded Morrowind after the Vvardenfell eruption, basically taking advantage of the chaos.

I think it's supposed to be after 4 times entering Windhelm, though there is a bug where that quest doesn't trigger.  They'll have to fix it since it's one of the biggest complaints, and affects being able to get the player house.

I thought I lost Kharjo again... turns out I had left him somewhere in the ruin and forgotten I told him to wait.  Thank the divines for the sexiest shout of all, Aura Whisper.  Also helpful in Forsworn camps.  :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks Kharjo is a BAMF. He's my favorite follower that I've had so far.

I'm considering taking the mercenary in Windhelm with me to wipe out some of these bandit hideouts that Brunwulf Free-Winter, Kjar, and Ulfric want taken care of. He's the only follower available in the neck of the woods I'm in, and I don't want to fast travel somewhere to pick up someone else.

Ulfric is still a gigantic racist.

Even Nords in his city think he is one, like saying how he wont help elves or non-Nords who get attacked.
Hell Balgruff may be greedy but he still protects all the people of his hold.

Its rather telling if a leader segregates people along racial lines and treats them as lesser than others. Then again the Dark Elves of Morrowind did this themselves quite badly as show cased in Morrowind.

But that is why my Dunmer is siding against him because she thinks he needs a good ass kicking. He sits in opulence and forces her fellows to live in a slum because he hates their race.

Sorry Ulfric but you are about to learn WHY Dunmer are/were a power to be reckoned with.

Kharjo is a sweetheart but I'm going to ditch him at the next opportunity. He dies at the drop of a hat. I think that has more to do with what level you were when you entered their area of the game than the individual follower. I'm going to try Marcurio again, if I can put up with his huffing about carrying my crap. Or maybe Agnis the Bulwark.

@ Giggles- The term racist is meaningless, it's used for everything. He's definitely not as good a jarl as he should be, since he should be concerned for all his people and seeing to it that he doesn't encourage a fifth column in his own city. As my Dovahkiin would make sure would happen, if she were allowed to be queen. *grumble*

I was going to side with the imperials on my orc female warrior, but the game opener makes it pretty hard to do that, even if you had a good history with the empire before.

lol. This implies that there was never bad blood between them before the slave rebellions.

Well not on the Dunmer end of the equation, I don't think - the Dunmer merely thought them to be slaves and of little to no consequence beyond that. I imagine it's only after the Argonians showed up and started kicking Dunmer ass that they started to think of them as more than mere plantation workers.

Ummm...it's way before that.

If you would learn pride of race and tribe, follow Saint Roris the
Martyr, Patron of Furnishers and Caravaners. Captured by Argonians just
before the Arnesian War, Roris proudly refused to renounce the Tribunal
faith, and withstood the cruel tortures of Argonian sorcerers.
Vengeance and justice for the martyred Saint Roris was the rallying cry
of the Arnesian War.

You clearly have a far superior long-term memory than I... although even my short-term memory isn't working out too great for me at the moment.

Man, he looks good is this Robes, doesn't him? hehe I'm prolly making a pure mage someday... perhaps after my pure Kahjiit Assassin! Meow!

Image IPB

Surprisingly enough, with my Ebony helmet, gloves and boots, even with the Robes my armor rating is 685, so above the cap! =) Of course, takes a powerful smith/enchanter/alchemist to forge such items! I might try a Mage/Smith/enchanter/Alchemist! hahah

PS.: Why do you guys keep discussing who came first, egg or chicken, regarding the imnperial/stormcloak conflict? All possible opinions may be right and wrong. All sides may be the right one or not. There is no such a thing as absolute certainty in life, except that everything that lives, dies.

And the Dunmer were the bloddiest racist I've seen when I followed my Nevarine!

Did you do the quest for Ondolemar or did he randomly start being nice to you? I turned his quest down and after returning while working at becoming Thane of Markarth he just started being friendly, inbetween complaining about the dogs. Rather strange.

Wow, this was quite surprising to read today:

The next entry in the fantasy role-playing Dragon Age series will draw inspiration from both of its predecessors as well as open-world games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, developer BioWare said.

Speaking to Wired.com in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, BioWare CEO and co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said the company has been listening to its fans and learning from the strengths and weaknesses of both Dragon Age II, the latest entry in the popular series, and other games that are on the market today.

“[The next Dragon Age] is gonna have the best of features from the prior Dragon Age games, but it’s also gonna have a lot of things I think players are gonna find compelling from some of the games that are out now that are doing really well with more of an open world feel,” Muzyka said.

“We’re checking [Skyrim] out aggressively. We like it. We’re big admirers of [Bethesda] and the product,” he said. “We think we can do some wonderful things.”

“How do we combine the new innovations we brought in Dragon Age II with the experience people were looking for in Dragon Age: Origins?” Muzyka said.

“Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans,” Muzyka said. “I’ve seen something in the last couple of weeks that is really the future of that franchise that is so compelling, I am so looking forward to being able to announce it.”

Muzyka would not elaborate on this tease, though BioWare VP and co-founder Greg Zeschuk chimed in with a joking suggestion of his own.

“The most realistic beards ever in videogames,” Zeschuk said.

LOL. It's easy for people like us to get wrapped up in a game's storyline, I suppose. Too often I find myself thinking about and discussing the worlds of Thedas and Tamriel as if they actually existed - the two both manage to inspire that sort of passion in me.

But in the end, whether I, or anyone else is right or wrong about the goings-on in these fictional universes, is irrelevant - all that matters is that everyone has fun. :)

Indeed, I like the prospect of DA3 taking the best of its predecessors and mixing it with aspects of Skyrim. I can just picture a variation on those old ass Reese's commercials from way back when:

"Hey! You got your Skyrim in my Dragon Age!"

"And you got your Dragon Age in my Skyrim!"

Wow, what a potent combination that would be. Work on it, BW!

It's the Loghain thing all over again.  lol  The civil war quest line is set up very well, very Game of Thrones as others have said.  There are a lot of grey areas.  So I like discussing it, though outside this thread (since here there are people who know the lore well and pay attention to game dialogue) there's just a lot of chatter about the Stormcloaks being n*zis and whatever.  That gets annoying.

I did his quest.  My character is a thief and burglary is her specialty, she couldn't not take the job, but I was hoping there would be an option to shake Ogmund down after stealing his amulet.  There isn't, and I didn't want the amulet hanging around my inventory, so I made Ondolemar's day.  Bastard.  Should have slipped some poison on the amulet.

I finally ditched Kharjo and picked up Marcurio.  I was glad that after an hour of smithing, improving and enchanting, he actually equipped the thieves' guild armor I made for him, preferring it over a couple decent robes I gave him too.  He's cute.  I never noticed the ponytail before.

For those of you who like crafting, definitely get the More Craftables mod- it makes it more fun to have a greater variety of things you can make and improve.  This character is getting her smithing up quite high just improving the crap she loots.  It works with my roleplay story since she married Balimund so she could be learning from him.  With the mod I was able to make my own Nightingale armor, too, since I didn't like the enchantments on the original.

Talk is cheap.  I'm not believing anything out of DA marketing again, until I see the actual product.  It pays for them to compare Dragon Age to Skyrim, to ride some of Skyrim's PR coattails by getting Dragon Age's name out there while Skyrim is hot.  That's all it is.  [/cynic]

Ah, makes sense.
One question, does difficulty increase the amount of XP earned or how fast skills are gained?

Well it does for combat skills. Since enemies have more HPs, you have to hit them more before they die, so you train your weapon/offensive magic skill much more.
They also hit harder, so you train your armor skill more.. and possibly Resoration too.
