I can remember the first time I heard one of the guards in Skyrim make the comment "I have to keep my eyes open, damn dragons can swoop down at any time." First thing I thought about when I heard that was Alister popping in and saying  "Swooping is bad"<LOL>

I'm the kind of player who has issues playing more than one character in a game.

I mean, player-created characters. For example, in the ME series, I have ONE Commander Shepard. That's it.

In ME1, I created a few, but I just could NOT play with them because they weren't my canon first character.

So it'd end up being the same here. Hence why I'd rather wait for a patch then start over, run to Riften, and go through ALL of the Thieves Guild stuff again.

You know, come to think of it, that's the way I play Bethesda games.  I usually just roll a single character, but pour upwards of 300-400 hours into each of them, especially with the quality and sheer volume of content they release in their DLCs.  The decision's each of those characters make as to what faction's he supports or which side he takes in the main story, is usually what I stick with.  I may in the distant future create a new character for FO3, New Vegas, Oblivion or even Skyrim, but I usually put everything into that first character I start with.

Now, I have about 8 Commander Shepards, and as many Grey Wardens, but that's just how it is with me and Bioware's better games.  But, I have to say I have only one Hawke...well...never mind on that one.

Replayability with Bethesda to me is just squeezing out everything I can do with the one character because the world, and the activities/opportunities in that world, are just huge.  Replayability with Mass Effect/DA:O is me just trying to root out all possibilities for Commander Shepard's/Grey Warden's story.

Interesting. Thanks for the cue.  I never really thought about it.

The feeling I get when reading this must be similar to reading an Elder Scroll.

You know the first thing that popped in my head was, "These ppl have WAY too much time on their hands..." but as Jewbot69 said, (in a completely hilarious way that made me snarf my coffee which caused an almost 15 min sidetrack including Clorox wipes and getting a new cup of coffee) it is one of those things that nags at you, that never drops completely out of your head.

As a fan I would LOVE to think the devs put this much thought into their game and actually coded it for you to find rather than writing some silly codex/book to explain their story. This was the sort of thing that I hoped beyond hoped that Bioware would have done with the Dragon Age series. But again, from my experience this sort of depth is never put into games, especially the ones that would really benefit from it.

Now if it turns out that I am wrong, I will happily retract my bitterness and call Bethesda god among game developers and worship them as the Bardic Masters they deserve.

I am yet to play a Bethsheda RPG twice (except for one try at Morrowind which died after 10 minutes) because of the time I put into each and sheer number of other games to play
Biowares games are shorter and incorporate more variation and thus are more replayable

My first character was over 300 hours, and I did have a few small sidequests yet to complete, but for the most part, I stuck a fork in that playthrough. In my case, I did do what you described, and didn't stray from it, but I was curious about other outcomes. Call me crazy (it wouldn't be the first time), but I just can't stop playing.

Now I just need to focus, so I don't stop around level 10 to create a new character every time...(but I haven't made an Orc yet! Or a Dunmer! Or an Argonian!) *sigh*

About the depth of the game. There were even team members who only created hidden locations and nothing else. Talking about dedication. Those locations must be there. I haven't found any yet, though. I wonder if any of you found some of those.

I can't believe I'm level 41 and haven't found one single item with Fortify Archery or Fortify Health to disenchant. *sighs*

But I found an Elven Armor named Elven Boots of Ancient Stamina! hahaha

If you join the DB you get fortify archery equipment.  An Amulet of Arkay is fortify health but that's random loot.

I was happy to finally find a Muffle disenchantable item, at the orc smith in Markarth no less.  But I think vendor stock is pretty random.

Yeah, but those items you mentioned are not disenchantable. I'm using no enchantment on my gear but for some fire on my bow! And I don't like to buy items. I love to find them in loot. My Two Handed found most anything pretty soon in my second run, including fortify archery and sneak, which my archer/thief seems impossible to find! hehe

Join the DBH, there is plus to bow damage, sneak, backstab, etc. gear that you get when you first join and then of course by completing all of the quests you get upgrades. You do not buy anything and it is some of the best gear before lvl 40 in the game in my opinion. Like I said before, you get the upgrades after doing all of their quest. Plus if you have smithing you can upgrade the Leather Armour which is nice.

You cannot disenchant any of this gear though so if that is what you were looking for then there are a few caves off Solitude where I found a Peerless Circlet Of Archery that gives 40% to bow damage in a chest.

Initial Gear when you Join:

Light Armour:

Armour/weight/value/stats:

Shrouded Armor (1) 7 29 Increases poison resistance by 50%

Shrouded Armor (2) 32 43 Increases poison resistance by 50%

Shrouded Boots 2 8 Wearer is muffled and moves silently

Shrouded Cowl 2 13 Bows do 20% more damage

Shrouded Gloves 2 8 Backstab does double damage

Cloth Armour:

Shrouded Hand Wraps 0.5 6 One-handed Sneak attacks do double damage

Shrouded Hood 0.5 10 Fortify Sneak 25 pts.

Shrouded Robes 0.5 18 Fortify Destruction 15 pts.

Shrouded Shoes 0.5 0 Wearer is muffled and moves silently

Upgraded Armour:

Ancient Shrouded Armor 33 5 - Increases Poison Resistance by 100%

Ancient Shrouded Boots 12 0.5 - Wearer is muffled and moves silently

Ancient Shrouded Cowl 15 1 - Bows do 35% more damage

Ancient Shrouded Gloves 12 1 - Double sneak attack damage with one-handed weapons

You know, I am curious as to how the game reacts to another race, and I've become intrigued by Khajits (blame M'aiq), so I  may well roll another character immediately after finishing up this lengthy playthrough with my Nord.  If I do it (and I most likely will), I'll probably go ahead and play a rogue-ish, sneak, thief which would be something very different for me.
Oh...and the seriousness of the game will go out the window.  A Khajit PC will be much more ornery around all of these humans. Image IPB

Heh, I'm quite the opposite. I feel the need to make lots of different characters and cover all the different options available.

In ME, I had to cover all the background combinations (like Earthborn and Sole Survivor, etc), as well as at least one male to see how it differs from the female, different romances, different moralities and specialisations.

I think I must have created a character for each race in Skyrim (though two for Redguard, because I made a second based on DA2's Isabela), although I haven't gotten far with most of them.

There are up to 6 variations of the DB gear. That includes Cicero's and Jester's gear and the enchanted DB clothing.

And if you have Pickpocket with the perk upgrades the weapon off of Astrid and some of the other members are pretty amazing too.

I have actually found quite a few of the locations that they mentioned. Although admittedly when I found them I was like, "Why is this here? There has to be a reason but for the life of me I cannot find the reason." And I have of course found some of the jars. I have been using them for decoration and wondered what the runes meant. This will of course bug me to death and now I have to revist those areas to see if I can find the clues that were mentioned in this article. Damn consipracies, you do not want to believe them but you cannot stop from wondering, "What if...."

I noticed that some musical theme plays to some determined events, like when we clear a dungeon/cave, a different one when we find a secret/treasure room in a dungeon/cave, another one when we enter some cave like the Eldergleam Sanctuarium, when we find a new location, etc. I don't know what triggers what theme and what they represent exactly but it's just a guess. Other than when we learn a new Word of Power or absorb a Dragon Soul, I mean. That theme is pretty obvious. heh

When I think about it, I have found a couple of chests and camps on very hard to reach locations, high up in the mountains. Not sure if they are part of the hidden stuff, though. ;)

Just like in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, there are a lot of "easter eggs" scattered about the world that in most cases will be overlooked by all but the most diligent exploration aficionados.

Still, it's something that Oblivion sorely lacked.

Are you my long lost twin? You must be.

OMG, I forgot Redguard! How on earth did I forget that? OK, add that to my list of races I have yet to try (Orc, Dunmer, Argonian, Redguard). Phew. This should keep me quite busy until ME3...at that time, I will be finding resolution for all 10 of my Shepards. I can't wait!

Is it just me, or are Khajiit just the cutest, cuddliest characters ever? I just want to squeeze the stuffing out of them! Image IPB

Yeah but in my opinion there is a difference btwn "Easter Eggers" and actual sub-plots like this Jar theory. Easter Eggers in my opinion are funny, "it is late and my brain is fried and thinking in beavis mode so wouldn't be hilarious if I threw in this Star Wars comment and see if anyone gets it." The conspiracy theory or depth storyline I am talking about would be building up one off items like say the disappearance of King Marius, Morrighan, The Warden, etc. because of an ancient entity trying to destroy the existence of mankind and they are being gathered for an End of the World battle. Or in Skyrim, finding out that putting all of these clues together will open a portal to the plane where the Dwemer disappeared to or something like that.

It is the difference btwn a "heh" reaction and an "OMG, I just figured out the meaning of life as we know it and I cannot believe I was that messed up in the head to see it." reaction. That is brilliant story telling and development genius that every true RPGer has been questing for in these games for 20+ years.

Well, your pickpocketing  (and sneak) skills goes up.  You  do, after all,  sneak up to a  Forsworn Briarheart and pickpocket his heart.

Heck if you've got the right perked bonuses for Pickpocket you can take away everything even the clothes they are wearing.

I'm that way with voiced PCs.  I can only play one Shepard.

On Skyrim, I am winding up my thief and planning to roll a warrior next, but I'm having a hard time contemplating anything but a Nord.  The game just seems meant for a Nord PC.  I think my Stormcloak character will be my quintessential and I'm tempted to replay her game.

Hidden Locations?  Hard to say, since sometimes I have trouble discovering paths and locations that are right in front of my eyes, while other times I manage to stumble on something that I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to find so easily.

Fiendishly hidden treasure chests on the other hand... I found a couple of those.  There's a fallen, hollowed-out tree trunk across the river from Riverwood.  Inside it is a chest containing an array of potions and a good deal of gold.  Very useful find, when you've just escaped Helgen and you're  still a level 1 n00b.

And of course, once you can waterbreathe, it pays to jump into  the water and start searching.  The waterways in this game are littered with loot.

I had one of those experiences where it's clear how much story there is in the world, if you're willing to look and be surprised.  I came upon this beautiful woodland lake, and after I'd slaughtered the spriggans and stripped the area for alchemy, I started to feel like a heel.  But then I came upon the body of an alchemist who had probably been killed by the spriggans, so I felt better about making this peaceful corner peaceful again.  Until I searched the alchemist's body- she was an Altmer- and found a human heart in her pack...

The art is also just so beautiful and so varied.  I was in this cave that was filled with spiders, and came to a room that had vents to the open air with waterfalls pouring down.  The morning sun was streaming through a veil of spider webs on the water.  I took a screenshot but it doesn't do it justice.  It was breathtaking.

I'm so spoiled

Even after my 200 hour playthrough of >9000 modded oblivion (thanks viconia), I am stuck playing skyrim.

I just can't go back to playing oblivion, I've been spoiled by Skyrim with the graphics and the combat

I've become the very thing I hated, someone punch me!
