Anyone took the dive in Kagrenzel? woot!

I don't think that I've been there yet. What quest is it related to?

None that I know. It's an Dwemer ruin on the extreme East of the map, between Riften and Windhelm. (You can also get there through Stony Creek Cave but then the huuuuuge dive from Kagrenzel will be forever unavailable. Make sure you save before diving. Feels like Gandalf falling through the deeps of Moria! When you hit the water, if you hit the water, dive straight down for a chest with awesome loot).

Curiosity had gotten the best of me since you had brought it up so I had to go find it myself and check it out. Now I will have to make a correction to your post, which I hope you don't mind. You Can in fact take the plunge even if you've done stony creek Cave. I had long since done stony creek but some how missed finding the ruins for which you mentioned. So me and shadow went over there and I checked it out. Went in side and played with that light thing. And took the plunge. I even found the chest with the Expert lock on it. I got a couple of ebony war axes one with Devoring wihich does like 15pts damage to health a spell tome and some gold.

Yes I hope it's a setup for DLC or something.

That business with the orb dancing around and the cage bars coming up, etc., seems way too elaborate for it just to be a hole in the ground.

wow just wow.... I was starting to see why so many people think this game is too easy as most things go down in 1 or 2 hits now....
THEN BAM I enter a dungeon that has a buttload of necromancers and I get my ass kicked the entire time. I persevere but when I get to the last part of it there was a boss with a few more necromancers.
I swear to god I did everything that was possible.
Werewolf? Nope one shotted dead!
kite them as my companion and fire astronoch holds them off for a while? nope one shot dead.
pull with long range spells and run away and hope that my minions can at least HURT them a little while I slip in and out behind a corner and try and..... NOPE ONE SHOT DEAD.
At one point I had managed to kill the lesser enemies and only the boss remained but being necromancers and all he just kept bringing them back and it was hard enough the first time. I hit and ran came back when I thought it was good I set up magic traps when he was chasing me I did EVERY godamn thing nothing worked PERIOD.
I hated doing it but there was no other option. So I went into the game options and turned down the difficulty 2nd easiest (can't think of names now but I been playing on the middle)
STILL wasn't enough
so I gave in and went to the easiest setting and it was a cakewalk but I did not care I wanted out of this.
Now I just played a few hours and figured it was a fluke or maybe I'm just bad with mages. Or maybe mages are OPed because I was doing the Azura star quest in Windhelm (go inside the star to kill the guy and clean the star of Azura. those Dreamora minions made short work of me every time until I went to easy mode again.
I hate when games do that. Its not difficult to have enemies one shot me (sometimes before I have a chance to get ready) Thats cheap and fake difficulty.

TL:DR? game is not too easy for me but in fact uber cheap and mean to me. I realize as I write this rant that as much as I adore this game I am putting up with a lot from it.

Yeah.  I've stated many times here how much I absolutely hate necromages, as they do little more than spam their destruction spells and always seem to come in hordes.

At low-level they are virtually impossible to deal with, except for kiting, some well aimed bow shots, some cover to hide behind to regen and a whole lotta luck.  I hated 'em plain and simple.  What I've found is that elemental resistance and moving quickly (if you're not going the archery/magic route) is the key as some have stated above.

Your companions are going to go down now matter what, but they will be good for brief distractions as they expose themselves, go down, and continue reviving, but mainly it will be up to you.

Me personally, I don't bother with two-handed, ranged, or magic at all in this situation.  I equip weapon and shield, move fast, and charge them one at a time.  If they are out of reach on a ledge or something, try to find something to prevent them having line of sight on you and kill the closest adversary quickly.

Once you take the elemental resistance and shield charge perks off the blocking skill tree, the necro's attacks are virtually neutralized, and once you can get up close and personal, you can cut them down pretty quick.  Even without shield charge (which requires a blocking score of 100), elemental resistance is an absolute necessity (I think you can get it at 70 blocking).  ER with a raised shield, combined with brief sprints, allows you to close the distance and shield bash, which stuns them long enough for you to do what you have to do, then rinse/repeat.  This works for a blocking, one-handed build playing on expert.

BTW, it is very cathartic to charge them, watch them fly like a bowling pin, then lay stunned on the ground and helpless as you dispatch them with a fire axe, after they've spammed about 50 fireballs at you.  Pretty much the most fun I've had in the game.

I feel your pain on this one, as necros were a real frustration for me eaerly on.

BarBarossa-To be honest with you I think Necro's are a pain for all of us early on to be honest with you there. I know they give me a heck of a time early on in the game. But once I get my sneak and marksman up their mine.<LOL>

Now you sound as bad as me when it comes to the Thalmor.<G> I'm getting ready to do the embasy and I love killing every one of the Thalmor in the place.

I've been traveling with Eola as a follower recently and here is the typical attack plan with Thalmor.

1. kill a few with Wuuthrad (Ysgramor's Axe which was used in ancient times to drive the Elves from Skyrim and it has a bonus vs. elves) and soul trap with Molag Ball's mace before they die.

2. eat their flesh to regain stamina and health

3. Eola re-animates their corpses and uses them to kill their fellow thalmor. The thalmor wizard zombies make great allies, as they even trash-talk their fellow thalmor. (unlike some reanimated corpses, they seem to actually talk, rather than groan)

4. wash, rinse, repeat

You can specialize by deciding what jobs you'll take.  I was a burglary specialist but at level 50 am working on pickpocketing.

I loved the TG quest line.  It had difficult character moments.  The end feels a bit anti-climactic, though, with Brynjolf deciding he has no time for me, and now it's gotten tiresome that the lieutenants still treat me like trash that just blew in from the Riften midden heap.  Especially those b*tchy women in the Ragged Flagon.  Good lord, you'd think at least Tonilia would soften up since she at least is presumably getting laid.  No idea what Vex's problem is.

Man, I haven't touched Skyrim in a couple weeks and still haven't finished the civil war or main quest. Just downloaded the Skyboost performance mod and it does wonders in improving the framerate in the cities. Also finally tried out SkyUI and its such an improvement.

Yeah, there wasn't a lot of robbing...but I enjoyed it far more then the Robin Hood wannabe guild of Oblivion's.

I have installed the Nexus mod manager, but how do I get it to install downloaded mods?

Nevermind, as soon as I logged into Nexus the tab appeared. Damn...that was easy. :) Thanks for the heads up on this Brock.

From what I gather, the Ebony Blade doesn't even improve when you kill friends. It's Absorb Health amount does, but it's base damage doesn't, you can't smith it, and despite it being a two-hander, it's governed by one-handed perks. If all that's true, Mephala's doing some serious trolling of her followers.

I sacrificed Eola to Boethiah's shrine this time. It felt good, like I'm somehow balancing out what I did to get her as a follower in the first place. Image IPB

Does anyone have any good warrior/mage/rogue builds, for some reason I suck at making good builds which has led me to start over about 3 to 4 times. Also is it possible to make a character that is 100% warrior? Finally, is there some way to find Giant's Toes faster? I'm trying to level up alchemy.

Anyone got any tips on how to beat Morokei the Dragon Priest? Dude keeps kicking my ass, especially since my only means of slowly denting his health away -- the Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson which does 25 damage a shot -- stopped working despite having a good amount of charge left in it from my last soul gem thingy.

never mind. I just opened the door into the area, fired an arrow at him, ran away, and then just did a little bit of rinse and repeat.

Paralyze potions with Lingering Damage actually make them a lot easier as well. ;)

I was just wondering if there are many followers with plenty interesting dialogue?

I've taken Mjoll and Erandur with me before, and they're both incredibly talkative. Not just 'here's what I think about this dungeon', but 'here, let me tell you my life story'. I like that. Mostly because I switch fairly regularly so I don't tire of what they say. I've also had Marcurio and Jenassa, and they're also quite good, though they stick to dungeon-based comments (or in Marcurio's case, dungeon-based snark). I tried Illia from Darklight Tower, but she doesn't seem to say anything much after her quest.

She is only a temporary follower, but Melka the Hagraven has really interesting dialogue and a funny voice.

Also, Eola often makes disturbing banter comments (when you realize what her preferred food is).

I also liked how Jenassa would sometimes call enemies "You filthy N'wah." And if you are a fellow Dark Elf, this unlocks slightly different dialog. I'm guessing there is race-specific dialog for most of the followers.

Use the Perks Calculator to check builds.

http://skyrimcalculator.com/

This is my Two Handed Warrior. At level 64 he had 4 unused perk points so I made it to level 60 to show you. Restoration was the last tree I started. He was a pure warrior at the start. Only Two Handed, Heavy Armor and some Smithing/Blocking later.  Later in the game I had to go Enchanting and Alchemy to make he a better Warrior because after level 40 some enemies get really tough too. Speech then Restorarion finished the build when I had no where else to spend Perks on. Note that he went Smithing only up to Ebony as I don't like Daedric, Dragon looks awful and with Ebony I got the sameuber Armor Rating and Damage on my Greatsword.

Also, pick one weapon type and stick to it. Don't waste perks on another. If you want to go Warhammer, forget the Greatsword Critical Chance/Damage perks. Go for the Warhammer one instead.

Wow... just went to improve some Plate Steel set for Kharjo and since I was at it, did some improving to my lvl 60 Archer's Glass Set and Weapons.

My Glass Bow went to 544 damage and my Armor Rating to over 1,700! (That's higher AR than my Warrior had with his Ebony Set, 1400, with the same Alchemy/Enchanting/Smithing build! =)

Not the weapon though. My Greatsword was around 630 damage. But that was with +136% Smithing potions and the 4 items +29% Smithing set. I never made potions after that. I think the character level may also influence in the power of the potions we can brew? I made some +144% Smithing potions with the Khajiit. Or is it a racial thing, like Kats can brew better potions than Nords ever will?

Giant Toes, if you are not playing a goodie char stealing is the best and easiest way I have found. Pretty much every Alchemist shop outside of Whiterun keeps them on the shelf. The one in Riften sometimes has two. The ppl of Solitude seem to love them as house decorations so if you break in during the day time you can usually find them laying around on shelves there too. The College of Winterhold has them all over the shelves in the mage dorms.

Another sure way and quite rewarding monetarily is, once you get your Alchemy up to around 35ish you can start making Paralyze with Lingering Damage Potions (Canis Root/Briar Heart, Imp Stool and Slaughter Fish Eggs/Scales). Get your bow out and tip it with these potions and go on a Giant killing spree. Usually one shot will kill a giant and they literally go T I M B E R R R R ! when you hit them so it is pretty hilarious. You get a toe for every kill. Canis root is a lot easier to find than Briar Heart.

It is pretty plentiful around the forest south of Riften, and the swamps of Morthal. Also my favourite and most plentiful way of getting Canis and Slaughter Fish Scales is the Alchemist's 5 finger discount. Pretty much all shops have at least two laying around on a shelf.  If you have gone to the Mage College they are all over the shelves in the mage dorms.

If you do not want to do either of these suggestions and are playing a goodie char, then start making money potions out of Dragon's Tongue, Moira Tapinella and Fly Amonita. It makes a 5 or 6 element potion that sells in the shops for around $200 - $400 gold depending on your Speech skill. The ingredients are extremly easy to get, are in very high quantity and since it is such a high lvl potion it also builds up your skill fairly quickly too.

I've already had the pleasure of Melka's company. Image IPB That was definitely amusing! Though the weird rasping and creaky movement sounds freak me out!

Not sure I want to try Eola out as a follower though. Last time I followed through with Namira's quest, I then sacrificed Eola to Boethiah, and my current character killed her immediately. Perhaps on my Wood Elf playthrough. Image IPB

I didn't realise that Jenassa has slighty different dialogue for Dark Elves. I knew she doesn't charge elves a second time for her services, but I didn't know that. But I was going to use her again anyway, she's marvellous! And I love her voice.

Well as far as the Ebony blade goes I think that it was Naughty99 that menioned that it was governed by the 1handed perk tree as well even though it's classified a two handed weapon. Which is messed up especially if your spending perks in 2 handed and come across the ebony blade. You think it's a great 2handed and find that it uses th e1handed skill tree which you've no perks in. Also with it being a 2handed you can't use a shield with it either. As for hwo it improves I'm not sure as I don't use it.

As for Eola I've not done her quest yet. I do have it in my journal to do though and will do it as well as for Boethiah's. But as far as Boethiah goes I'm going to sacrifice Ceiro for the DB That nut job gets on my nerves and  I let him live just for the purpose of Boethia's shrine quest.

How many of the Daedric shrine quests have you done? I've got 13 done this play through with two more to do and I'd have done all 15 of them this time. I figure that I've got to do at least all of them one time.

I've also got 23 or the 24 stones for which you need for the one TG quest and will obtain that one when I go to the party at the Thalmor Embassy. That party is going to be a murderous affair.<EG>

I'll have to admit that I've not really used a follower much in the game. Only when the quests require it have I taken one along. Other than that I pretty much have solo'ed with just me and Shadowmere.
