TES V - Skyrim - Everything that goes Up... HD
Ah, companions... so smart that it hurts!
Nothing so dramatic, but I still had to laugh... I came back from fighting the master vampire and was surprised to see a pile of frostbite spiders in the middle of Morthal, that some guards had apparently just killed. Just as I thought "ooh, free loot," I see a guard stoop down and take something from the spider. Sure enough, by the time I got there they were empty- the NPCs had run off with my poison. As I'm staring down at the spiders in annoyance another guard comes by and says "noo lollygaaaging." LOL

Roleplaying an Altmer resistance agent has been really interesting. She spies on all the Altmer, especially those in Windhelm- of which there are a surprising few. And of course is very interested in the Psijic Order and what Ancano is up to. Don't spoil me as I'm only halfway through the quest line.

I thought it was great. You know there is a small quest you get if you stop at all the altars on the way up. I haven't done it yet so not sure what it involves.fdgvdddvdfdfbdfb wrote...
Anyone think the 7000 steps was slightly overdone? My finger hurt by the end lol. It's like the complete antithesis to Bioware's "corridors with lots of things to kill", it's almost completely empty and simply there for the journey. Also dragon + troll = lots of frantic running + dead Lydia.

Thats pretty much the entire game world. I love taking the journey up there and its that climb that makes me even happier I disabled fast travel through mod.

While not the answer to the entire climb, the 'C' - Run Straight key is your friend in avoiding sore fingers.
And Ice Wraiths are never to be taken lightly, though they may be random.
As for other advice: Use care when deciding to backpedal; first step backwards could be a doozy!

Well now will have to admit that I didn't know about the quest you get for stopping at all the altars.Does anyone know how many altars there are? I know that I stopped and read some of them But must have missed some because I didn't get a quest. Not one that I'm aware of at least.
On another note I just started the Civil War quests, taking the imperials side and have doen 2 or 3 of the quests including getting the crown. Now the thing for which I'm curious about can I do other quests in between like the last Daedric quest for which I've got in my journal or going to see Delvin to re do the Dawnstar Sanctuary or others for that matter there? Or do I have to stick with the Civil war quest till they are all done?

It's not a quest per-se. It's one of those temporary blessings. After you click on the last altar, you get the "Nature walker" blessing (or whatever its called). And for the next 24 hours, all animals leave you alone.Addai67 wrote...

I loved it - most atmospheric, and I enjoy mountain-walking anyway.
I like the way you can almost feel the cold when out in Skyrim, I must admit to changing Lydia and my char out of their forsworn armour into something more practical, as it just feels like they'll catch their death of cold.

Now I'm curious if the fact that you and Lydia wearing foresworn armor keep the foresworn from atacking you on site? Or do they still attact when the see you? And why foreswrorn armor?
@renjility-Thanks for the information as I've got lots of various thing going on in the game right now. A final daedric quest, TG and DB quests and have to make another trip up the 7000 steps to learn about a shout from the greybreads and who knows what else is in my journal that I still need to do.<LOL>

It doesn't stop them attacking you, although I've noticed that through some subtlety of the ruleset, two flaming dwarven swords through the face seems to stop them attacking you anyway.
Forsworn outfit because a) I switch gear a lot for variety (I ran around in Falmer gear for ages the other day)

Well yes I'll have to admit that a sword or a well placed arrow seems to quiet them right now. After all I've taken out more foresworn than I can count.
AS for swtiching of the gear the only thing for which I switch out would be my weapons and that would depend on the situation. If I can take them out with the bow I'll do so. But there are times for which I like going to melee weapons and my dual swords do well at getting my message across.

I had never been to Bloated Man's Grotto before without the quest of Hircine already started. It's an awesome place without his influence on the visual and there's even some nice item/letter from a Blade in there. Over 500 hours and I bet there's a lot I haven't seen yet. All the high level magick school required quests for one. But I'm on my way to do those with my mage.

Heh, they are mostly easy but dammit I hate the occasional passable magic user I find among them - either my game is bugged or they are naturals. The other day, just after had I dual-wielded a dragon in the face like a boss (ok, a crappy frost dragon, admittedly... but still fun) I sauntered happily into one of their camps with the intention of killing them all so I could sell their sticks and roadkill (sorry, weapons and armour) to buy some steel ingots.
Did the usual thing and waltzed through them without pausing for breath as you usually can, I could swear at one point I killed four of them with a sneeze, then suddenly I found a stupidly excellent mage. She had about 80% of my health away before I realised what was happening

I admit it. I did. I fell like a professional sucker on my first playthrough. Never again. Until now. I had no choice. Both Lydia and my Flame Astronach fell into it! I had to jump in! Poor Sid the Warlock! heh
With previous characters I've always waited until level 18-20 to go to Whiterun and start the Dragons thing. It is a lot faster to level up with a Warrior or Archer when they work some Smithing too for better armor.
With this pure mage, I went at level 10 and at 14 I'm already killing Dragons on my own! =) With Lydia and the Astronach helping, of course. I had no money left. Had to spend all I had on Books and Magicka increasing items before going to Whiterun because it sucks to be a pure mage with no magicka left to cast spells and Regen is slower during combat, AFAIK.
But man, it's a pain to level Destruction. Level 34 now, one more for Impact perk and all other magic scholls level a lot faster even if I use them a lost less. My Conjuration is at 50 now!

Same here. Unfortunately, there are many of these found throughout Skyrim. While you find yourself walaying any number of garden variety bandits, forsworn, etc, suddenly out pops an incredibly overpowered mage. Seems to be more of a "natural" occurence than anything, as it happened quite often with me during multiple random encounters. Speaking of enemy mages, Pyro and Necromages are insanely overpowered and anytime you happen to trip into one of their viper's layers, get ready for a protracted fight.
The only advice I can offer is to take all the elemental resistance you can get your hands on until you are a high level. At level 50, I now bowl them over with shield charge with ER on the shield; at level 10 I was kiting for my life.

Someone suggested that to me when I was bellyaching about not having an Animal Friend perk, a la Fallout, so I tried it. And was a little disappointed.

You still don't have a choice, do you? If you want to clear the dungeon and get all the rather good loot from its boss, you have to fall into the pit trap, because the side passages both lead to locked doors that require a key.RageGT wrote...
Ok, honest answers now. Who has fallen in the trap at Rannveig's Fast?

The first time I did it, yes, it took me by surprize, I was walking towards the giant, shiny chest in front of me and... oops, fell right into the pit. Second playthru I instantly remembered the trap and tried to be "smart", only to discover that there was no other way down...

Oh, I did for sure. Fell for it like a fish flopping on the deck. Trying to pick that lock while he's hurling insults...well when I finally got it, Sild paid dearly. What's with the bounty if you fail the lock attempt by the way?

Like on BSN there are some awful threads on the Bethsoft forums. But some are little gems. Look at this one:

Should follow a rabbit instead, you'll be running around in circles for hours.

We all have it pretty good now...as you can actually *do* something about their Fireball/Lightning Spamming insanity....mainly get resistances up, as you mention. But there was a brief period about a month ago (when patch 1.2 came out) where resistances were broken. Completely broken. As in, they didn't work at all, so even if you were 50th level, decked out in gear that gave you 80% fire resistance, you still got fried to death in a Pyromancer's lair in a manner of seconds. Thankfully, patch 1.3 fixed that nonsense.Barbarossa2010 wrote...

Now if you check under the General Stats of your journal under the combat section the last entry in there is "Bunnies Killed". Which I'll have to admit that did surpise me.
