The atlas of dragons mentions one dragon, Ahbiilok, who's lairing in Morrowind... maybe this is a hint at a future DLC or expansion?

Also, I wonder whether dragons can shapeshift into humans like D&D dragons. The entry about Nahfahlaar in said atlas, seems to indicate they might.

I turned on the text display (closed captioning, more or less) a week or so back, because I kept missing dialogue (whether it be because of annoying couriers, followers, NPCs, etc., interrupting conversations), and started taking notice of what dragons and Draugrs say during fights. Sure, some of it looks like gibberish, but the rest apparently says something.

It's interesting to see that they're actually trying to communicate with the Dragonborn. Aww. Image IPB

@Elhanan-Now I'll have to admit that I've played DAO and DA 2 and DA2 paled by comparison to the two. I thought that all Hawke was was a glorified gofer. Gofer this bring here gofer that take it over there. Only Heck the only reason for which I did a 2nd playthrough of the game was because of the 1st DLC for which was put out. Then Bioware gave the big shaft to all of us who pre-ordered and paid for the game months in advance to get all the free ingame items and gave the items to everyone no matter when they bought it. And lots of us were like WTF is that all about?

Because of the disappointment that turn out to be DA2 with a lack luster storyline, a protagonist for which didn't feel like my own character, and the way for which they did us that had pre-ordered the game. If there is a DA3 I won't pre-order the game. I'll wait and see the reviews once its been out for a while.

AS for skyrim I've got over 600 hours in the game since I got it 11/11/11, yes pre ordered and I can't stop playing it. Heck I've pretten much forgotten about DA2 and it's less than interesting followers.

About those Deathlords, I've only encountered ones using the Unrelenting Force or Disarm shout and the strength depends on your level. Early-to-mid-game they only stagger, but around level 40 those using the Unrelenting Force shout have leveled it to stage 3 thus tossing you around like a fly. It doesn't do much damage, but it can be annoying at times - I don't like prolonged times of inactivity.

Maybe it's just a fluke.  Like I already said, this character is still pretty low level- level 14, I think- and I don't recall ever being tossed around even at level 40 or 50.  I was surprised to find an ebony shield in that dungeon, and to find that the death lord was using an ebony bow, so maybe the dungeon isn't scaled or something.

It's not a fluke and there are some even at low-mid level that has it. Of course, the lower level the char, the higher the chance of sent up the air. Only, when our own Unrelenting Force is upgraded to level 3, we have more resistance to the Dah. And if you note well, even at low level they all do the full 3 worded Shout.

Now this is a good example of a mid level char (level 33 with Fus only) taking a beating of Fus-Ro-Dah spam fest!

Now watching your video reminded me of my first playthrough when I did the part of the quest as i didn't use a bow. I learned and on the second playthrough they didn' t through me around. Image IPB

Interesting. I think you are right, but you will never be completely immune to the potential effect. This makes the trip to the beards worth your while since most enemies use the Unrelenting Force shout against you. Better to buff your resistance eary on, I hate getting tossed around.

You clearly lost the shouting battle in that vid, but the last man standing is all that matters in the end :D That guy is even more powerful when you try to remake the amulet. Definitely the toughest brother. Did you know that you can see who's the real one? All the fakes have their horns pointing upward, he's the only one with horns pointing to the ground. It can be difficult to spot, but it can make the fight a lot easier and you don't have to waste a lot of time hunting fakes. Oh, and you can also use the "wait" button every time he vanished for a brief moment. It will restore health, stamina and magicke. It's cheap, but it got me through that final battle the first time I met this moron (with a level 10 character)

And he's so very easy for an Archer with Stealth... hehe

Paarthurnax can upgrade our Unrelenting Force and make us even more resistant to the stagger. =)

That's what it is...Paarthurnax's ugrade.  I saw someone was talking about stagger and being blown off their feet by a Dragr's (assuming Deathlord) shout; I just went into Dead Man's respite, where there were many, MANY Dragr and Deathlords.  While I was shouted at many times, I only staggered briefly and never once left my feet.  I'm at level 50 and playing on expert.  Has to be Paarthurnax's upgrade since it causes you to stagger 25% less and, (if I'm not mistaken) allows you to stagger opponents 25% more.

So... I just used my ritual stone ability to try and bring back a dead dragon to fight for me.

It failed.

But that's not the funny part. The funny part is that my undead giant just turned on me. Or it was a live giant that somehow magically came to Fort Greymoor when I decided to wait a whole day, but didn't realize I was there.

EDIT: Nope, it was a live giant that just didn't realize where he was or who he was with! Poor guy. Now he'll be a part of my undead army

I would agree that they could improve on companion interaction (like Obsidian did with New Vegas did after Fallout 3), but at least most of the people we interact with are sane. At least the antagonists have motivations that make sense. And based on Skyrim addressing many of the problems that people had with Oblivion (like the 5+5+5 leveling system), the issue about companions might be addressed in the future.

This is where we disagree. While certain quests require the protagonist to handle them a certain way, that isn't always true; the Dragonborn can completely ignore the demand made by the Blades and spare Paarthurnax. The protagonist is capable of siding with the Dark Brotherhood by abiding by Astrid's offer, or he can kill her and wipe out the remaining Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Should he join the Thieves Guild, or leave them to the crumbling embers of their past glory because he shares Mjoll's views on them? How is the protagonist being manipulated in choosing to allow Erandur to destroy the Skull of Corruption, or killing him to claim it for himself? Or if he decides to defy Azura and help create the Black Star with Nelacar?

I need a proactive who can actually do things and have significant choices throughout the narrative. The Dragonborn can decide on how to handle different quests (like the Daedric quests), his (or her) agency over who he wants to side with in the civil war (if he decides to side with anyone at all), his rise to power in several factions, and whether he wants to gain the title of Thane in nine Holds.

I don't agree about the writing or the story-telling. I prefer Skyrim, especially its handling of the schism between the Stormcloaks and the Legion, where Ulfric and Tullius are depicted as flawed leaders who do their best towards a goal they genuinely believe in over factions that have their faults and their strengths, as opposed to Dragon Age II, where Orsino becomes a Harvester and Meredith becomes a Super-Saiyan, not mention how the mages and templars were handled throughout the story.

Given the direction of the DLC and the developers attacking fans for not appreciating their "innovations," I'm not holding out much hope.

Kirkwall was beseiged by demons and corruption that aided madness to occur and grow. This seems most evident when following the the path of the recovered idol. When Flemeth is among the more reasoned Mages seen in an area, there might be concern....

While there are those that do not enjoy the storyline, there is a reason for encountering the insanity. Guess I like it much more than others.

And I have no problems with a game allowing choices; prefer DAO to DA2 as a personal example.

But the same Dragonborn exalted here can go to great lengths to create a truce and peace between the Imperials and Stormcloaks, and have the entire event ignored. And I have seemingly missed the option to dismantle the TG and/or Maven Blackbriar. Or wonder over a Magika challenged Archer becoming the Archmage of the College of Magic. Even minor Reliant generated clients of the Dark Brotherhood are seemingly immortal. Etc.

Skyrim has some obvious flaws too; choices or not.

I do not mind playing a scripted story, or having a single area of exploration. What I disliked about DA2 was the restrictions in armor, weapons, classes, etc; the gameplay issues, and hope the recent announcement concerning DA3 will see improvements here.

Yes; Orsino seems fairly heavy handed, but I have no problems with Meredith being portrayed as the Queen of Hearts in this particular Looking Glass. This was the story being told, and I enjoyed it.

I haven't seen the last DA2 DLC yet, but read some fairly positive reviews and praise of future projects. And as one that specifically changed into Gregory House concerning some of these so called fans, I have little empathy for them.

Haters gotta hate, and then vote on Metacritic....

Sadly, no, she didn't hear me, but the people in my department did, and laughed (not that they actually got the joke or anything). They think I'm absolutely bonkers for putting so much time into a video game, but they're a bunch of fun-haters.

I did add inflection at the end, and it came out kind of like how Mjoll's VA says it...so, kinda dopey. Image IPB

That's what I asked as well. Hehe.

On another note, you know what I keep wishing would happen in the game?
The random guards that say "You know I got to thinking that perhaps I might be Dragonborn and I just don't know it yet."
We've all heard it and responded it with a show off "shout" I'm sure, but it would be a lot more entertaining to have had a reacted/effect from him upon doing so.

When you say break the game, do you just mean remove any challenge the game may have had or does it actually damage the game?

And that's a good idea, assuming I can have them all grouped in enough of a radius to summon them.

It doesn't damage the game in any way, but depending on how far one's willing to go, it can remove most of the challenge.
...

Actually, it is game breaking in the sense of damaging the game if we push it too hard. I tried it just for fun, with a Hard Save before starting it.

I don't remember how high was my Alchemy % with that last fortify Restoration I brewed for some + 3.345.278 %.
But my Fortify Enchanting potion got up to some +650,000% and game CTD whenever I drink the potion and try to enchant something. =)

With the same Fortify Restoration, my +21 enchanted items became +4.000.000 if I unequip/equip them.  And it took my Alchemy from around 60 to 100 in one potion indeed. Got 2 levels out of it. hehe

Using console God Mode and some No Mana Use command would be a lot faster and simpler. It is a cheat, plain and simple. Probably devs made it to test something imagining no one would notice that the Fortify Restoration potion actually works as a Fortify Anything Exponentially. =)

Aw well, it was fun but I'm a legit/purist player since good old Diablo 1 when everyone had dupped items. So it's reload the hard save and back to my weakling Pure Mage, back at her ordinary mundane stats and vanilla magic, with which she just kicked Morokei's ass to Oblivion and is going to be Arch Mage next! :wizard:

PS: correcting the numbers:

Fortify Restoration  +12,628%
Mana 12,000
Life 4,000
Destruction Less 2,800% to cast
Magicka Regen 19,000% faster
Fortify Enchanting 396,626% - That breaks the game literally!

And I have a solid year of DAO with a score of Wardens, and somewhere between 300-400 hrs into DA2. Toss in both ME games, NWN1 and a couple of SWTOR betas, and I am gold.

Currently, I have 400+ hrs in Skyrim, and am well pleased with the invested funds and time of all.

But for all those characters and stories, I will choose almost any over those seen in Skyrim.

As for needing to dictate what Bioware can give away, as a member of those that pre-ordered the Collectors Ed, they have my blessing. I received what was promised, and am not too intent on restricting the generosity of others. If they wish to pay the same wages to those hired at the end of the day as the ones hired at dawn, I am fine with it.

There is one downside to a game that  decides to be  completely dependent on story/narrative at the expense of almost everything else:  You don't need  to play it.  You can simply watch it on youtube.

I recently discovered that with Bioware's last  DLC  (mark of the Assassin).  I didn't want to  buy it because.... because I was just sick of  DA2's crappy  game play  mechanics.  But, like you say,  Bioware does tell good stories.  Solution:  I went on youtube and was pleasantly surprized  to see that people were posting their ENTIRE  playthroughs of the DLC for us to watch.  So I watched the DLC, instead of buying it.  The whole thing.    Good enough.  It was like watching a halfway decent movie.

But therein lies the problem.  Isn't it supposed to be a GAME?

Addai67 wrote...

Another question I have about shouts... Does the effectiveness of draugr shouts against you depend on your armor rating?  I was arguing on Bethsoft that enemy thu'um was weaker than the Dovahkiin's, because my PCs had only ever been staggered by one.  But that deathlord last night was tossing my mage around like a rag doll.  She was Torygg Reborn.  Shouted to the floor and then killed instantly by an ebony arrow.

From my experience, it depends on quite a few things.

The shout itself is one of them.    Some Draugr only have Ro Dah, which is easily resisted.  Some have  all 3 words (which will always send you flying, in a cutscene).  It also depends on level.  I distinctly remember my first playthrough, when one of the Draugr bosses of a  dungeon would spam  Fus Ro  Dahs on my character.  But on my second playthrough, I was a much lower level when taking him on, and he kept tossing  out Disarm shouts instead.
