Was anyone else here that rocked a Werewolf unable to start the Totems of Hircine quest?
The game still considers me a Werewolf (eg; stats in days, guards mention it, etc), but I have been cured since ending the final Companion quest. So the entire disease questline may be bugged a little; uncertain.

Dealing with the Dwemer ruins for the scholar when I wandered deep enough to find my first Falmer!
Until now I've had no complaints about still having almost exclusively unupgraded starter gear.
Boy that changed fast when they were lopping off large chunks of my HP while I futiley attempted to chip away at their health.
So now I'm stuck sneaking around, firing off dual cast illusion spells, pulling with arrows to group enemies/move them out of my path, and at times setting up well coordinated ambushes when I get one alone.
Very refreshing change of pace I must say,

I would strongly caution against this for a new player, myself, I think on first playthrough it would ruin the game for me - but YMMV.
Mine varies, but I agree against using this for most new players.
After reading many posts soon after release about the various Shopping related matters in the game, I went with unlimited gold and lockpicks as my way to cut out the tedium. I simply did not wish to haul things from the dungeons to the shops, and back again, nor fret over what items to take, leave behind, etc.
While some play with exploits that raise Skills, stuff their horses and companions with gear, etc., I simply have plenty of gold and lockpicks on hand at any time. But I am an experienced user of this console cheat in solo games, and am aware that a lack of discipline by any of these methods can taint the experience.
Note: this has been known to cause issues in shopping while swapping over to play in m/p games when one forgets they have a limited supply of funds....

So, just hit my first challenging fight on my Dark elf, "Light everything on fire while stabbing it in the face" spellsword.

Also can recommend Conjuration spells for an assist; the Fire elemental is fine for many encounters, and only fires at non-Friendly targets. However, the death explosion will harm anyone, I believe.
But with my Mage, I simply became tired at having to take soooo much longer to clear a quest than my Archers. Still plan to return to him and look at some other spells as he grows in Magika.

The typical fighting style of my spellsword in heavy fights includes, myself summoning a Flame atronach, my partner doing the same, then me putting on Ancestral fire/Flame spell in left hand with a sword in the right.....Lots of fire.Elhanan wrote...

In any case, though I love using them to scout out rooms in this dungeon, I found the buggers keep two shotting her so I conserved my magicka and just started using Illusion spells, do they scale with conjuration level directly? Because your not the first who has recommended them to me for helping.

She is getting filthy rich using alchemy and Transmute spells, though. So far the best spell I've found from the Midas Magic mod is Bound Pickaxe.

Shooting lightning bolts at dragons is so much fun, as is seeing people getting sent flying as well.

Least now I have a much better survival chance really.

I think my days of rolling a pure a mage are numbered. It's fun, but it's a lot of kiting and furious scrambling for spells with no margin for error. Those Stoneflesh and Ironflesh spells don't help.

Much like my experience, though I went with Light Armor to save Magika for other use besides Alteration protections.

In my case I get bored with RPGs if I get too rich. My favorite part of the game is when you are starting out and so poor you have to struggle to come up with enough to buy some crappy hide armor, etc.
I have noticed there are some excellent gold sinks in Skyrim:
1. Training
2. Buying Smithing Materials
3. Buying potions
4. Arrows (if you are playing an archer)
During my current playthrough I'm about 150 hours in, level 30 and I have never had more than 5,000 - 7,000 gold at a time. I do have dozens and dozens of dragonbones and lots of magic items and jewelry squirreled away that I can sell in a pinch if I want to buy a house or something expensive.
Every time I clear a few dungeons, I end up with some magic items, some dragonbones and a few thousand gold, which I spend on smithing materials, potions and occasional training. In my previous playthrough as an archer, I would spend a few thousand buying up every arrow in town as well. (You can use up hundreds of arrows on flying dragons, even just trying to get their attention.)
If you want to get rich in a way that doesn't feel like an exploit, I would say, simply do the opposite of what I'm doing. In other words, don't spend money on smithing materials, training, potions, arrows, etc., and promptly sell all the dragonbones, jewelry and magic items you find.

Giant's toe and blisterwort makes a very valuable potion for selling.

FYI - Be sure to Save before entering the shop; current bug occasionally gets the store hours wrong, and the clerk will start calling for the guardsmen to press charges. Not the worst problem to have, but an irritant anyway. A successful walkaround for me is to use a prior Save, and wait a day before entering; seems to clear the problem.

Use higher power spells (eg; Fast Healing vs Healing) , and be sure to keep your friends and steed healthy; seems to be somewhat effective.

You probably already noticed this, but just in case, were you aware that unlike in Oblivion, Restoration only levels when you are actually healing damage? (In Oblivion this skill could be leveled by spamming healing spells.)

Restoration is very slow and destruction is slow, and neither appear to have any spells that one can spam to raise the level unlike the other schools
