I like the UI better in Oblivion. It's more fitting artistically. Now it really does look like an I-pad. :(

But those fight animations are sooo much better.

Whatever PC "friendly" UI Bethesda develops modders will make 100x better.  So not really concerned.

I like the new UI, at least for Inventory. I hope Inventory layout is different for PC but Howard said in Game Informer they wanted to make pause screen UI be as efficient as if developed by Apple...looks like they reached their goal.

I'm with you that Oblivion's UI was decent....it didn't confuse me at all it was just sloppy, especially Inventory. I hope Quest Items, Jewelry (enchanted and non-enchanted), Robes and Alchemical Ingredients have their own separate category this time. Jewelry and Robes were thrown in together with armor and Alchemical ingredients were underneath potions....non removable quest items just in wherever....hope its catagorized better.

Gameplay UI (Hopefully excluding crosshair) is hidden until you need it....that's really awesome :)

However, with games like Oblivion and Skyrim, you end up with so many different kinds of items. In Oblivion for example, I would be scrolling forever to find specific things I frequently needed on some of the sub-menus, such as soul gems,  repair hammers, sigil stones, dinner plate and drinking cup (COBL Real Hunger, Real Thirst), etc

I'm looking forward to the UI changes

I sure hope Skyrim will have a storyline that will affect the player, emotionally. The one thing that lack, in my opinion, are emotionally-gripping storylines (Except Fallout 3). Sure, the storylines in Elder Scrolls feel triumphant but compare them to that of Bioshock or Ocarina of Time.

Im not optimistic. Your right they never quite managed it. Although what happened with Martin was a bit of a surprise I admit.

Considering the opening of Skyrim is your execution I cant see it getting very emotional at all after. If they throw that curveball in a little later on the main quest then yeah I would be getting a bit fluttered if they did it right. Nothing worse then feeling helpless.

As it is its at the start, you know the outcome, you dont even know your character yet. So an epic scene holds little emotional value. Also you cant have scenes where you constantly feel helpless its stripes away part of the feel and immersion. Like scripted NPC kills in Oblivion, the game froze while you watched them getting executed.

Emotion comes out of caring for your player and characters. This needs to be developed over time. As the games are so vast and you meet so many acquaintances I really doubt it.

Every Elder Scrolls game had one emotion-adding factor. The relationship with Ria and Martin were the ones for Arena and Oblivion but sadly it stops right there.

The Daggerfall one had nipples ?

When it comes to the design of the beast races, I prefer their DaggerFall counterparts. Even if they are lizards and cats with breasts

The only one I saw sofar was concept art of Redguards in Elvish armor.

They seemed very sleek and agile.

Ah, I see. I thought their production periods were a lot shorter, for some reason.

I've never played any of the ES games before, so Skyrim will be my first if I don't pick up Oblivion by then. Can't wait to see what all the hype is about. :)

I'd suggest waiting to play Skyrim, but if you want to play Oblivion and take it all in (not just the main quest but doing guilds, side quests, daedra quests, exploring all dungeons), I'd get it really soon. It would take you right uo to November 11 to complete if you played steady.

True, 4 months to play a 300+ hour game isn't much time, especially when my free time is become more and more limited these days.

I think I'll probably wait for Skyrim, since Oblivion would just sit there collecting dust for a while if I got it.

You guys are pre-ordering, right? Where from?

ugh, what is it with bethesda and hideous character design. every game I play from them has horrendous-looking characters.

well, except the father from FO3. he was kind of hot.

I'm going to preorder through Game Stop probably. I'm waiting on the announcement of a Collector's Edition though, hopefully I'll hear one way or the other soon. All preorders come with. Premium Skyrim map...whatever that means, but I'm waiting and holding out for now.

Did you see any of the E3 Skyrim stuff?

pre-ordering from Steam as soon as it becomes available - probably some time in September, judging by the time frame other games usually become available on Steam.

pre-ordering but waiting for info on a CE first. Depending on the content I will either get that or the standard.

If there is no CE then I'm just going to pre-order from Steam whenever it's available. I'm willing to bet too Skyrim will be a Steamworks game regardless if you buy a physical copy.

The map is a poster! :3 It looks awesome.

YESSS I saw the E3 skyrim footage! I can't believe the amount of detail they put into that game. I remember watching a clip of the character walking through a cave and Todd Howard was like, "Yeah, we put streams of water on the bottom of the cave to kind of guide you through." They just put so much thought into it...it's insane.

LOL no.

I think you should be able to dual wield shields though. if not somebody will make a mod within 20 minutes after the Creation Kit is released.

I wonder if they are going to make Paralyze a spell. I could see massive issues with just putting Paralyze in one hand along with a Destruction spell in the other. It'd be far too easy.

Unless Paralyze is a spell you get later on by focusing almost pure mage....or it costs you a lot of magicka each time it is cast...

I think the overpowered part of Paralyze was the fact that you could make your own very cheap spells with 2-second paralyze effect added to something else.

My guess is that in Skyrim we won't be able to make our own spells.

And I'm not entirely sure, but I seem to recall some mention of a paralyze spell in one of the interviews.

Maybe it will have a cool-down timer to prevent abuse.

This is such a subjective phrase that it should be outlawed.
