I think you get assassins instead of hired thugs if you haven't joined the Dark Brotherhood. It could be because you stole something from a house, held onto an item for too long when someone wanted you to bring it to a specific person, or you killed someone who had friends who want payback.

I was considering that they were much like the Thalmor agents, and being sent after me for surviving the massacre at Helgen; uncertain speculation.

But I was ecstatic to have bested three attempts with my Dark Elf Mage, and stealthed my way to the DB Sancutuary and knock on their door; almost left them their fliers!

^ Great job! Although I'm not sure what triggers thugs versus assassins, as I saw both last night, within about an hour of each other. (I haven't joined the DB yet in this playthrough).

I have a couple of newish characters that I started recently, and last night was the first time I got the dreaded Thalmor attacking me, at a fairly low level. If I didn't have a follower and a conjured flame atronach, it would have been heinous.

The only difference between this playthrough and the other new ones was that I accepted the quest from mama Grey-Mane, regarding her son (who happens to be in Thalmor custody - Missing in Action). I'm guessing that's the quest (or at least one of them) that triggers the Thalmor assassins?

I've encountered them after killing patrols of Thalmor agents (including ones with kidnapped Talos members), since the note I find on one of them mentions that my character keeps disrupting their plans.

^ I've only actively sought out Thalmor agents in one playthrough (not this one), and have been astounded at how fast the prisoner can run. I always try to catch them to give them a weapon and supplies, but it's tough sometimes to actually catch them.

I love busting into the Thalmor embassy.

The best part of the pic is what he was saying:
Dont you see elven sup-THWACK

Ever notice how some Daedra say they are watching you...I wonder if they get kicks out of watching the Dragonborn doing stuff.
Or keep points on the Dragonborn using their stuff.
Or make bets about what the Dragonborn will do next

I'm convinced that at least half of the bizzare Random encounters  the Dovakiin comes across while traveling through Skyrim are, in fact,  created by Sheogorath for the lulz.

I do too.

For some odd reason I cant help but laugh at anyone dumb enough attack someone like that.
Especially when they are wearing fur armor.

Which makes Maiq nervous.

I never use the Clavicus Vile mask; do you prefer that one over the Daedric?

I like the looks better myself.
I loathe how the armor is not symmetrical but dragon armor looks silly.

I know the helmet isn't symmetrical, but the armor isn't, either? I hadn't noticed. Maybe I'll spin up my first character when I get home from work, and take a peek.

With the helmet, I always thought the asymmetrical nature was appropriate, since the horns look like the Oblivion symbol from above.

And btw, conjurers really need to carry more equipment. I find it hard to believe that they feel ok leaving home with just a robe, shoes, and an unimproved iron dagger.

You say that - once you get conjurational enough, you can basically wander around in your slippers and dressing gown yawning at potential threats. Even now at level 80 I can occasionally thrown down the storm atronach and file my nails while companion/atronach get the job done - although it still works out badly sometimes.

I suppose that's true. Image IPB

I haven't actually gotten any of my characters up to level 80 yet. My first one I stopped around level 53, and I have a few others that are levels 20-30. I just created another new one a couple of days ago. I can't seem to stop myself! This new one is an Imperial, and she looks just like Vex...except that I got the hair color wrong. She actually does have white hair, apparently.

Oh oh I should say I meant conjuration 80, not level 80.

That said, right after I posted that I thought... that looks pretty weak, maybe I should get to conj 100 so I can do double atronach's - since I posted that, that's what I've been doing, kind of let my tea go cold but got there :innocent:

Also... how many chars do you have?!
I think we might all have borderline life-threatening addictions, you know

Oops, and that's totally how I read it, too. Derp. Image IPB My dream is to have two atronachs. I can't wait!

After the second Imperial I just made, I'm up to 7 characters. A couple of them are total newbies (my Khajiit is only level 2), and the rest I put a sizeable chunk of time into, but my first playthrough was the only one of any real length (level 53, over 300 hours). They're like placeholders at the moment. I do plan to go back to them...at least, that's the plan...

I think you're right. There is no other game in existence that I've spent this kind of time on before. I believe I'm right around 600 hours.

One positive thing is that playing Skyrim leaves me no extra time for other vices. Image IPB

does anybody else think its strange that you cant sell dragon bones and scales to a blacksmith? you'd think every blacksmith in skyrim would be dying to work with the stuff...

They don't have the dragon smithing perk.

How exactly do the Wall of Fire/Frost/Shock work?

Is it actually a DoT spell since it seems to linger, or is it something like the early game spells requiring constant use.

That's the fire barrier spell, right? I had a couple of staves in my first playthrough (Staff of Hag's Wrath, Staff of Flame wall, etc.) that I gave to Ghorbash, and he set literally everything on fire - himself, my character, Shadowmere, the environment... honestly, it was more of a hazard than a help.

Or sell it to Farengar. I thought he was interested in dragon bits.

I had a lot of fun with the Wall of Storms staff.

I gave it to Eola and charged into an Imperial fort during one of the civil war quests, using the Storm Call shout myself.

It was like turning the place into a giant bug zapper. She used the staff on the walls, ceilings, the entire fort was covered with electricity trails.

^ OK, now that sounds fun. It actually sounds like something J'Zargo just casts anyway. I haven't used him as a follower yet (stupidly), but my husband thinks he's awesome. From what I've witnessed, he seems to favor shock destruction spells.
