^ OK, now that sounds fun. It actually sounds like something J'Zargo just casts anyway. I haven't used him as a follower yet (stupidly), but my husband thinks he's awesome. From what I've witnessed, he seems to favor shock destruction spells.

J'Zargo is surpised that you have not selected such a powerful wizard as a follower.

After 300 hours, I finally completed the College of Winterhold questline. At first i was hesitant due to my Nord being a rogue/assassin type character, but looking at the ''Visit the College of Winterhold'' in the misc. quest section started to annoy me after a 200+ hours. With the questline completed the ''Visit the College of Winterhold is still in the misc. section (sighs).

One thing i noticed during the questline was that the magical anomalies from the Containment quest were brolic aka diesel. I had more trouble killing one anomaly than i did with an ancient dragon, who i can kill with one or two hits depending on expert or master level difficulty. Also, Ancano had the nerve to summon one during our fight and it outlasted him lol.

Ah, Fawkes...what a great bud.  A one man wrecking crew.  Too bad he couldn't have found his way into New Vegas.

How exactly do the Wall of Fire/Frost/Shock work?

Is it actually a DoT spell since it seems to linger, or is it something like the early game spells requiring constant use.

I had a lot of fun with the Wall of Storms staff.

I gave it to Eola and charged into an Imperial fort during one of the civil war quests, using the Storm Call shout myself.

It was like turning the place into a giant bug zapper. She used the staff on the walls, ceilings, the entire fort was covered with electricity trails.

Sounds like a lot of fun - I have this habit of saving staves and never using them (except my Perfect Silver Battlestaff, of course) so I have the staff of Hevnoraak just sitting around.

Might have to pop over and do some Thalmor liaison work with it during Friday's lunch break. B)

Awww, I miss Fawkes

.. no wait, stop! The absolute last thing I need to be planning is a Fallout-a-thon after Skyrim, I won't surface 'til 2013.

Dont you see elven sup-THWACK

Ever notice how some Daedra say they are watching you...I wonder if they get kicks out of watching the Dragonborn doing stuff.
Or keep points on the Dragonborn using their stuff.
Or make bets about what the Dragonborn will do next

Or notice when I drop their piece of **** artifact on the floor because it encumbered me.  "Hey Mehrunes!  Can I trade this razor for something useful?  It sucks :("

That fight was wacky for me.  At no point did Ancano take any damage from me.  So I just drained the staff of magnus on the eye and let the anomally kill Ancano.  Tolfdir was unconscious for the whole battle.

Naturally.  J'Zargo is superior to all the other followers.  The Dovahkiin should be following J'Zargo. :wizard:

I had no luck with either J'zargo or Onmund. They wouldn't use staves- they'd run up and try to punch the enemy when they ran out of magicka- and they were of course then always down. Had much better luck with Marcurio and Belrand, who's my current follower. I gave Belrand +health equipment, an absorb health ebony blade and a sparks staff and he kicks ass. He is almost never down on one knee.

P.S. In other news, I'm reading The Infernal City and it's quite good.

Lol the moment the fight started Ancano blasted Tolfdir with a paralyzing spell. He  summoned an anomaly, who then attacked a paralyzed Toldir. It looked like toldir was being violated, because of the position he held when paralyzed.

You know its kind of hard to really get anything done in Skyrim.

I keep heading out to hunt some animals for soul and leather and really dont move any plots forward.

I'm having the same problem!

But on the upside, this distraction will mostly end when we get to 100 Enchanting ;)

Well 30 more skill levels and 3 perks for me to go :)

Though I will maybe try to pause a bit now - I can make semi-decent single enchantment equipment (like -20% spell cost or 30% elemental resist), and I gotta level some other skills as well...

Guess it's time to go get the Black Star and enchant a few things :)

Does anyone have some good rogue builds? I suck at making good builds, also is it a good idea to have some focus on enchanting and smithing with a rogue, I need a way to make fast money.

My fave build has been full Stealth and almost full Archery (all but extra arrows & speed) perks. This helps insures deadly kills at range, and decent tactical advantage should melee occur.

One can melee by staying with daggers, or improve the combat prowess with 1H. 2H, and maybe Blocking (though I have yet to try the latter).

For crafting, I prefer Smithing and some Enchantment. But many others here also seem to recommend Alchemy.

I also prefer balance; some Magic for close to middle range work, as well as distractions and misc usage.

I am not a great min/ max player, so I try and get all three stats to 200, then add to those that you deem as a priority. For Mages, kick the Magika up; for Warriors; more Health. And Stamina can aid any build; just be aware that it drains the pool from the other two. My first Dragonborn was Magika - 350, Health -  200, and Stamina - 350 about the time I finished play.

I think I have around 200 salt pile pots with one char. I even store a portion separated. One for cooking, one for alchemy. They're abundant. You find lots of them in sacks and barrels as you go exploring. Make sure to loot them all. =)

I cook a lot, especially on my archery character who used a lot of stamina.  Salt is everywhere- but you must start early to loot every barrel and sack.  Alchemy shops and every tavern will have some.  I've heard from others that they're short on salt but I always have scads of it, I think I'm just a hoarder.

The most bang for your salt pile is from soups and stews.

You almost can't go wrong with the Sneak tree.

Smithing is probably better for making money, but you can combine them.  I smith stuff, enchant with lesser or petty stones if I have them, that ups the value while building your stats.  Personally I think it's more fun to decide your crafting based on a character concept.  My archer smithed a lot because her husband was a smith and I rp'ed that he taught her.  My mage does not smith much but makes jewelry and enchants it and makes potions to sell.

This is what I did for my guy who was Archery/Stealth/Illusion as his main skills. My one-handed skill leveled up pretty nicely without trying as well once I could get the insane backstab's in. I play on Master and if you are patient, and decent at re-deploying it's very hard for an enemy to get a good, solid hit on you if you are playing with a sticky follower like Mjoll, or if you're higher level and get good at vanishing, resetting, and sniping.

First 10 Levels:

*Get Faendal. Use him to train Bows to 50 ASAP. You really need to get that power shot. I spent 7 of my first 8 upgrades in the Archery tree IIRC.
*Archery: Overdraw 2/5, Crit Shot 1/3, Eagle Eye 1/1, Steady Hand 1/2, Power Shot 1/1
*Sneak:  Stealth 1/5, Backstab 1/1, Deadly Aim 1/1

Next 10 Levels:
*Archery: Overdraw +1, Crit Shot +1
*Sneak: Stealth +2, Assassins Blade 1/1, Muffled Movement 1/1, Light Foot 1/1, Silent Roll 1/1

That put me around level 18. From there I started focusing in Illusion, casting Courage on my follower, then upgrading to Muffle. I mainly use Illusion to either cause a bunch of chaos and get a bunch of sneak attacks in a tight area, or to reposition with an invisibility. With Nightingale armor and being a Vampire, I can really rock Illusion. You seem to want to focus on crafting, so I would say the next 5-7 talents I'd drop into either Enchanting or Smithing (or split for both). If you do like the idea of Illusion, once you start putting points into it go after Quiet Casting as soon as possible.

While upping my tertiary skill (Illusion), I slowly started to beef up my One-Handed and Light Armor skills. I went to Light Armor when I didn't have the rank requirement to go elsewhere. In One-Handed I went for Armsman, Fighting Stance, and then Savage Strike. In Light Armor I went for Agile Defender and then Custom Fit. Later on I'd finish off the trees with the usual suspect of perks.

You will want to fill out the Archery and Sneak trees as they become available. However, I didn't mess with Ranger or Hunter's Discipline.

That should put you in the mid to late 30s, and from there it's pretty easy to finish things off focusing on off-trees and more crafting.

It's a very rewarding playstyle imo. You really do become a ghost flitting around the battlefield rocking the hell out of people.

I rather enjoy cooking in Skyrim.  And I have no idea why, Because lets face it, it's virtually pointless after you're reached, like,  3rd level.Image IPB

There's just something... cool, about finding crap like Tomatos and  Apples in a barrel and then having the option to  put them all in a pot and create  a named dish

Personally I think there should have been more depth to  cooking.  They should have let you mix whatever you want together in a pot and create your own dishes based on what you mixed.  Like:

Salmon cabbage stew
Potato-moon sugar pie.
 Boiled Carrot sandwiches
Green apple and Black-briar mead beefsteak.
Salted Venison and charred skeever hide kebabs

Wierd Stuff like that
