A lot of side quests are very fun but nothing else compares to the RISE IN THE EAST quest line.

I mean me and the boss had a total bad ass magic duel with my fireballs and his lightning bolts smashing against wards, and ending with my sneaky Dremora decapitating him from behind.
...and all that for some reason sounds like a very dirty play on words......

Anyway most bad ass finale in any side quest though

@ monkeycamoran:
The United Colors comment is in a section "On the Redguard."

The "Nords' largesse" comment is in a section on flight of the Dunmer to Solstheim after the Vvardenfell eruption.

So please, educate me if I've misconstrued them. Preferably without the epithets.

*snip*

That was an interesting quest but I won't do it again.  The empire can save its own ships if it needs them so bad.

I like how the captain starts raining fire down on you then says "I hope that didn't hurt you."  Don't trouble yourself, ***hole.  lol

Heh I just popped Become Etheral and walked right through the whole thing while the pirates got blown up.

Sometimes its fun to be cheeky.
Plus the Boomers did that to me in FONV so I cant hold EVERY artillery barrage against people.

The Dovahkiin and Courier are asking for it, I guess, by constantly volunteering for jobs no one else wants to do.

Eh the Lone Wanderer was WORSE.

Moira: Hey can you go get irradiated and break some limbs?
LW: Sure thing!
-tosses himself off a ledge and into a shallow radioactive pool-
LW: How was that?
Moira: Cool! How about running into a mirelurk cave, not fighting back and then running right out?
LW: Okay!

Fun quest but holy crap did the stupid roll in right there.

It's on the section of "On the Redguard" because he's making a commentary largely on world-building during the First Pocket Guide. The inclusion of the black people and the exclusion of Asian people isn't one based a pretense of racial harmony for the sake of a more politically correct world. What you're right about is that Kirkbride doesn't want to sugarcoat it, which is why there are racially charged gods like the Hoonding in Ra'gada religion. I'm not sure if it's appropriate a term, but it's a aversion to the trope of white military force that appears in other fantasy worlds.

The "United Colors of Beneton" comment should not be seen as any disapproval for harmony. The comment on "Nords largesse" is not simply shoving a bunch of refugees on a frozen island just because you can't stand them. I personally interpret it as there is a chance for harmony between former and bitter enemies, especially when the other is down. It's a big deal when the two races have been fighting for so long only to grant the dark elves asylum, despite the undercurrents of racism in the most traditional Nordic parts of Skyrim.

It is kind of dumb to send them there though.

Since its home to the Skaal who are THE MOST TRADITIONAL NORDS.
Besides those at Thirsk, and Ravenrock the island was home to people just as traditional as those in Vvardenfell.

Okay, so... these are all exactly the points I was making, so now I'm baffled.  But thanks, I guess.

The comment doesn't apply to Whiterun.

Whiterun?   I think you must mean Windhelm.  I was only talking in general terms about the developers' approach to social problems- that they don't attempt to make nice, politically correct story lines.  Conflict between the races is a major plot driver in TES.

Oh you must mean where I said Whiterun strikes me as the Mayberry of Skyrim (charming small town with everyone living in harmony).  I said that I prefer Windhelm precisely because it's grittier.  Maybe you can ask for clarification next time before you flame someone.

You know...Riften really does stand out like a very sore thumb.

We can topple the Dark Brotherhood.
Demolish bandits, necromancers, and other baddies at whim.
We can kick a demi-god to a pulp.
We can consort with Daedra, serve the Aedra, and lead guilds to glory.

We cant however TOUCH little Maven Black Briar, or the Theives Guild.
We needed the option for that really, and it being missing is just plain annoying.

There should have been a:
Silver Hand vs. Companions
Thieves Guild vs. (You and Mjoll) or (You and honest Riften folk)

Just like how we can side with or against the Dark Brotherhood.
Then again there would be people sobbing if the thieves guild did not return again...but they will do that for the DB.

I mean...up yours thieves guild you are nothing more than thugs and wiping you and Maven off the map should have been an option.
At least in Morrowind the thieves were going against a very corrupt system, and fought against slavers, and had a bit of a sense of honor.

But in Skyrim? They are nothing more than petty scum that shake down innocent people, and rob them.

Hopefully this is not because someone on the Bethesda has a Matt Ward style love of their fave faction and wont let anything bad happen to them.

I agree, with the Thieves Guild quests I felt so railroaded that it was ridiculous. You can't even say NO to the guy who first approaches you, no matter how you object he still gives you the job. And if you screw it up on purpose he still invites you to the sewers, and you can't say no.

.... wait what? ofcourse you can say no! Well...just ignore him. Press the TAB button before anything major happens and you can just say no. It's simple as that.

Haha. I just imagined a progressively dishevelled looking LW stumbling into Moira's workshop. She's actually the main antagonist. Don't let the survival guide fool you.

 this week's update on Korrin.
Her dragon premonitions from the end of the previous week were shown to be justified when a Frost Dragon attacked her outside Winterhold. She managed to defeat it before heading off to get the Staff of Magnus...but first had to get past an Elder Dragon.  This proved a tougher fight and in desperation she tried her newly unlocked shout ...Animal Alegiance...
The elder dragon turned to confront a bear leaving Korrin free to repeatedly back stab the dragon. Victory! (shame about the bear).
Korrin proceded to obtain the staff and become arch-mage (despite a pathetically low magicka and limited skill in the magical arts).
She spent the rest of the week exploring and doing various jobs - curing herself and others of lycanthropy (awkward due to a number of game bugs), obtaining the white phial, killing a second dragon priest, killing a wrtecker captain she had previously let lived (along with his hired thugs) plus an encounter with a "zombie dragon" (i.e. a soulless dragon she had previously killed..it eventually suicided by attacking a giant and a pair of mammoths).
Her trickiest quest of the week was sneaking through a museum for language notes ...she regretted accidently killing one guard with the machinery but gathered the guards were used to such things.
She is now getting ready to return to Riften (but still has one letter from a friend to follow up on...strange how this friend knows what she is doing in such out-of-the-way places...typically with no living inhabitants..except for the place she met Sheogorath...)

Up to level 14 now-I had a assassin from the Dark Brotherhood try to kill me as I was wandering around the countryside. I can't recall if I did anything bad enough for someone to hire a assassin to kill me.

My theory is that it's a radiant thing to get the player interested in the dark brotherhood and not linked to anything you did.  (I had 2 attack me after I met Cicero but they stopped when I got the note from the Dark Brotherhood).
Maybe the Dark Brotherhood are testing new recruits (and pretending that it's on a contract).

I've figure out why the Thalimar sent their Justicar trio after me, and the necromancers had notes saying why they were after me, the hired thugs also had a note to that effect but stayed with their employer rather than looking.

Okay, Destruction officially sucks as main/only source of damage, at least on higher difficulties.
Unless you invest in spell cost reducing gear which gets the cost nearly down to 0, one's Magicka supply isn't even enough to destroy one foe of moderate power (not to mention bosses). You'd have to drink millions of pots to keep on fightin.

But not all is lost. Altmer Highborn power comes to the rescue and can let you unload for a whole minute per day without pause... Priceless against dragons and bosses.
I'm really starting to appreciate the power of this race.

Which isnt hard to do.  Invest a few points in enchanting and not only can you cast Destruction spells of all levels for free but any other school you wish to cast as well.  My current mage set up I basically  have Ulfric's clothes with 25% Destruction and Restoration reduction cost on it.  A ring with the same, a necklace with the same, and a circlet with the same.  Basically meaning that I can free cast Incinerate and (even more fun) Lightning Storm until my heart's content.  On tougher enemies I usually just Fus Ro Dah them to the ground and before they can get up, I have LS cast and eating them alive.

And if Im feeling even friskier, I just Dual Cast either Thunder Bolt or Incinerate and essentially stun lock the enemy until they are dead seeing as how the perk Impact in the Destruction tree staggers ANY enemy (even dragons) when you dual cast a destruction spell at them.  Ancient Dragons are a joke to my mage because I'll just hit them with Dragonrend and as soon as they hit the ground I just start spamming Thunderbolt, dual casting and staggering it until it's dead.  I rarely have to heal myself at all even though I can cast restoration for free as well heh.

Side Note:
Not to mention that also by doing this your weapons and staves carry infinite charges as well. (Almost infinite charges anyway on staves.  Weapons for certain.)

^ Re-re-amending that lol.  I thought I was wrong on the infinite charges for staves as well but Im not.  I originally amended that based off of the Staff of Magnus.  But the staff isnt a destruction based staff so naturally its going to still deplete lol.

Eh? You get those notes  when you shout in places that skyrim citizens reside.  Like villages,  cities and farms.  And those notes will tell you exactly where you were seen shouting.

What are your notes saying?

I guess you can. But 0 casting cost equipment is beyond cheeesy and cannot possibly be what the developers envisioned for this game.... at least I hope so. Once again I can clearly see that bonus stacking is broken in this game.

that friend, is entirely your opinion and you are entitled to it.  Just dont try to sell it as fact ^_^
I could post volumes on the things Ive seen folks (in this very thread) use that go above and beyond what you call cheesy.  So let's not get into that realm of discussion.  You can either use the method described in my post, or not.  I dont honestly give a spit either way.  Just dont try to devalue other folks playstyles just because it doesnt fit into your narrow scope of how you believe the game should be played.
