I'll give that a shot! :D Alchemy was always one of my major skills, in Oblivion.

I forgot about Conjuration, as well. I may experiment with that, when I create a mage.

Does anyone know of a decent way to level your speechcraft? I got mine to 75, but now it's taking soooo long to level! D: It seems to only level after I have sold a million potions! XD

^ The only way I know of to spam Speech is to talk to/persuade that front desk guy at the Black-Briar meadery (over and over, ad nauseum).

Oh yeah, I use Conjuration, too. I finally got to the point where I can summon a Frost Atronach last night with this character. Soul Trap seems better with Conjuration leveling than simply conjuring a Flame Atronach.

Aside from casting ST on a dead body though, I'm not sure what else you could do to increase that. Maybe I should change to the mage stone; I think I set it on Thief, way back when.

speech craft levels when you sell or buy things, so do everything individually as it works on a the number of times the transaction takes place not what you are selling/ buying. I think it's a thief skill? Maybe? I can't remember, if so Thief Stone + well rested bonus for extra skill increase. But, yes it does take a while to level it up.

^ So when you're talking transaction, you're saying...buy or sell one item, close the window, then do it all over again? Or can you just back out of the "what do you have for sale" part? I get tired of listening. And that statement could apply to lots of areas of my life.

Which character are you using the alchemy and enchanting perks on Happy? Although it is a great source of income.

I tend to stock up on better armours and jewllery when I'm exploring and collect a load of soul gems from animals, enchant them and then sell the armour for nice shiny gold, and I get my enchantment up to boot.

I've not decided whether to go for alchemy or archery with the perks yet my skill level on archery is fairly high at 80, but as I've nearly maxed out theenchantment, single handed, heavy armour and smithing skills, although not taken all the perks, I'm considering mixing things up a little and selecting archery.

All of them. Image IPB I'm playing character #7, an Imperial spellsword named Serenity (who looks almost exactly like Vex of the TG, which is what I was going for).

I keep thinking that when I start a new character, I'll change my play style, but honestly, I only end up tweaking and refining the existing style. My pure mage is the only one that deviates from the archer/thief/assassin/mage build I keep ending up with. In my first playthrough, I started as a pure mage, then became a 1-handed spellsword. The only things I've added, or am doing differently by #7 is that I added a shield, more Illusion and Alteration, plus Archery. I always use Enchanting, Smithing, and Alchemy.

I'm not loving light armor anymore, though. This character feels like a pin cushion compared to my last character - a Nord 2-handed warrior, that wears heavy armor. And it seems like Smithing is taking forever to level up. *sigh* Maybe it's that I hate all of the light armors, with the exception of any of the TG armors and Dragonscale. The others are just so...meh.

Image IPB Another character!

I'm currently going with a Nord equipped with two swords and heavy armour, heavily armoured damage dealer so smithing is a must for me and enchantment for the extra resistances or Ancient Dragon breath attacks on master tend to hurt. Heavy armour sets do look good though, I don't mind the Elven and Glass armour for men, but I prefer the Dragon Scale.

I think I'll do either an Assassin with two swords/ archer next. Although I haven't decided If I'll do a straight mage or an armoured mage. But at the rate I'm going on completion God knows when I'll get around to it.

Bard College has a Speech Trainer, and purchase & sell a lot to boost it on your own.

For the Craftsmen, perhaps purchasing mundane gear, Enchanting and Smithing to improve, then re-sale might be a way to improve all three Skills, plus gain some gold if that is your Huckleberry.

Raise a dead body, then fight them for a minute is a decent way to improve a few Skills. I used this against the dead mage that sets the pit trap to capture test subjects; very satisfying, and he got a chance to train me for my troubles!

When you enter the conversation to buy/ sell something say if you have 100 arrows, gems, potions and the computer asks how many do you want to sell, sell them one at a time. Increadibly boring, but as the skill works on each item sold, I believe you get points for selling it individually not selling 100 or so all together. I don't think you have to come out of the window entirely, once you've sold the items you want and want to pick another, just go to the cateories and select another item.

And yes, listneing to Benethor go on about junk and treasures makes me want to lean over the counter and poke in the eye with my finger at times. Although my attention wonders at times, actually most of the time.

I know! I'm crazy! This new character is just over level 30. If I was smart, I'd go back and continue my first playthrough (my Breton), now that I actually know what I'm doing...except that all I had left to do were minor and radiant quests. I do have those other character builds sitting there as placeholders (my Bosmer, Khajiit, Altmer, and first Imperial attempt).

I hate the women's versions of Elven and Glass armor. Literally. I detest them. And before I go into a tirade, I'll end that train of thought.

Armored mage/Battlemage (heavy armor) is fun. Honestly, I think I'm going to have to forsake the light armor in lieu of the heavy in this playthrough. I wish I hadn't wasted perks on it thus far.

My first character used light armour, but I changed after 15 odd hours. I restarted with my current character, annoying as hell, but it would irritate me no end, I don't know why I might be slightly obsessive behaviour. As to the armours I think they improved on them since Oblivion, but glass and elven is definately the weakest of the bunch. Although I'm not a fan of Dragonbone armour.

I'm level 43 at the moment and I'm somewhere in Act 2 of the main quest, lots of exploring and I've done some of the quests around Whiterun, Winterhold and Flakreath so far, I've still got a lot left, but I'll complete the main quest this week then on to the civil war.Image IPB

^ You can make a ton of cash using that method. I was up over 70,000 septims with my Nord warrior in just a couple of days, without really even trying. If you can make poisons worth a few hundred septims and sell them, why not?

I've been doing that too, mostly on jewelry that I make from transmuted ores.  And my mage needs every penny.  Getting conjuration training from Falion is highway freaking robbery.  4310 a pop!

The other side benefit of selling off a lot of high value stuff is that it boosts Speech.  The down side is finding vendors who'll buy your crap, or else waiting the 3 days for their gold to restock.

I'm a fan of the heavy armors from crafting (especially Ebony. Mmmm.), but I tend to light the unique light armors the best - especially Nightingale. Crafted light dragonscale may look like Shredder, but I like it's appearance way more than the heavy version.

I'm a huge mage fan in just about any game - ask the Morri thread people, so many mages in Origins :P - but Archer Assassin has to be my favorite class in this game. So my vote is for an A.A., and use a dagger or two to finish off the poor, unlucky bastard left alive after peppering all his friends with arrows.

Go pure mage. Alteration = sexy time. You can pretty much negate all spellcasters (especially if Breton), and you get so many nasty spells and defenses against every other attack as well, plus some of the best crowd control in the game.

I'm debating my next toon when I move away from this assassin. I'm thinking an Altmer who uses Conjuration for two swords, and wears light armor. Although I messed around with a Breton Shieldmage who wore heavy armor, a shield, and either conjured a melee weapon or casting spells and it was pretty mad fun.

Pure Mage is the best in Skyrim.

Honestly I feel like I can literally laugh at all those puny mages who attack me now.
I mean I can recharge myself from the spells they toss at me and laugh at them doing it.

To go from using a weak little sparks spell to casting a DEATH BEAM lightning spell is fun.

Its rather odd that no one notices me walking around town with a dead guy moaning like a zombie.

Really by this point that bandit must really smell.
I think I shall call him Ted.

Anyone else face Sigdis Gaulderson in Geirmund's Hall? He Fus Ro Dah'd me, and blew me across the cave about 5 times before I could finish him off. WTF? Does the undead SOB have any cooldown on that thing?

If they have a cooldown it's incredibly short. I've faced things before where it seems like they snap it off every five seconds, and others that it's almost a one-and-done deal.

I think I just took him for granted as a garden variety undead boss and got sloppy. The angles and differing levels in the cave worked against me once I got staggered and blown off my feet the first time. I normally shield charge, following it up with UF Shout and bash to disrupt, but he had me off my game for a bit once I allowed him the time to send me flying. Total noob mistake, I underestimated him and started off poorly.

My health bar didn't budge, but he kept me off balance enough to make it a moderate challenge. Eh, anyway it was about the only semi-challenge I've had in quite a while and must say, he used his UF Shout more effectively than any boss I've run across.

He'd have been a cupcake if I was range attacking though.

Yeah, I misread the original post and didn't see that you got him. Skyrim needs to package a Insanity mode or something in with their first x-pac.

What do you get an absorb spell from?  I've been looking for something like that.

Giving my follower an Absorb Health blade has definitely helped keep them on their feet.  That and Belrand has some minor heal ability.  He's really a very good follower all around.

You could play a Breton (native magic resistance) + activate the Atronach stone.

If you're a conjurer (and play on PC), be sure to use this fix to a vanilla bug with atronach+summoning

My main character is an Archmage, master conjurer, currently working on alteration to get the atronach perk, that's why I know. :D

My character is an Altmer, I never need the Highborn talent.  But all the Breton presets looked like aged old women.

Since we were talking about Ulfric using the thu'um a few pages back, I dusted off Fraps and made a video from the Battle of Solitude.  Ah, memories.

I've always played Bretons since Morrowind as a first character. Younger Bretons mod saved my character face.

I might try playing as a Dunmer or an Altmer for my next character, I haven't chosen yet.

I did this quest yesterday evening, isn't he a scamp? It was the first time since I got started walking around with tweedle dee and tweedle dum (am I giving my summons names... surely not) at each shoulder, that they've come in really handy.
