Ok, question for you fine folks. I made a new character (melee, which is a bit of a shocker after two ranged characters. I'm like Muhammad Ali vs other guys with 2Hers. Stick and move, stick and move.) and wondering which direction you think I should go to take advantage of my lowbie vulnerability before I become an engine of absolute destruction.

I'm level 10, Nord, 2H, have killed the first dragon, and have done the Companions quests up to becoming a werewolf. (I wanted my Skyforge steel and Wolf armor. Looks soooo awesome.)

-Go join the Stormcloaks and liberate Skyrim, or
-Finish the Companion chain,or
-Join up with the Greybeards and re-create the Blades.

i found out you can join both the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion. is that a glitch or do you eventually have to betray one?

i just finished the companion chain. gives you a few good companions to follow you around.

Interesting article about an upcoming (professional) Skyrim mod focusing on TES lore

Looks interesting, but February 2013?  A long way away.

I'll be getting the beta patch.  Haven't had any problems with patches thus far and performance has improved a lot since the early days- hardly any more CTDs for us.

The only issue I've had with display racks is the mannequins in Honeyside walking around, and the Ebony Blade will not stay on its rack.  Both are.... creepy.

I believe it's giving the Jagged Crown to one side or the other that locks you in.

Personally, I advise choosing the Civil War quest before the Main, or watch every choice you made on the truce get reversed or ignored. And I dislike completing the Main quest before having some kind of credibility; seems a bit anti-climatic gettting an award once you have already saved the world. And I disliked spending a lot of time in a war-shredded Whiterun after the Stormcloak solution. But I doubt I will ever choose reuniting the Blades, esp after listening to the widom and golden throated tones of Paarthurnax.

So I recommend:

* Finish the Companions quests.
* Civil War solution.
* Main Quest..

Do you like werewolf form, Giggles? I never use it. It seemed weak when I tried it so I just don't think about it. I'm going to end up being very indecisive when it comes to the point of deciding whether to take the cure or not. Kodlak makes a good case for why that was a bad decision and the Companions should go back to normal warriors.

A combination of the fear howl, and knock down power attack makes it VERY powerful.

Save it for enemy mages though since:
A) They will be running to much to fight
B) They die quickly when knocked down
C) Payback via being mauled is awesome.

It sucks against giants, and dragons and the undead, ESPECIALLY dragon priests.

Actually, I've been able to knock down Giants and take them down easily in Werewolf form. Sadly, I can't feast upon them, which makes me wonder why it has to be only humans.

They go flying so far though. Payback for all the times they sent me flying around like a ragdoll!

Then again knowing this is the last thing that some annoying mage saw:

Is its own reward.

Oh and you are immune to any disease as well as a werewolf.

BADASS.

You know, I'm debating on what my next playthrough will be. When I finish my first one that is.

Will I play an Orc, or an Altmer? If I play an Orc, I'm going to play as a Pugilist that sees no need to wear armor.

If I play as an Altmer, it might just be as a mage.

Sometimes I wish there was an option to take over Skyrim like the Yes Man option in FONV.

That would have been awesome.

Now I am not an expert on how a Dragon's mind works but for this piece:

I think his thoughts can best be summed up as "Well....shyt"

Finish up the companions first?  That's what I did with my two-hander run.      Wuuthrad is worth it   for your  low level 2-hander.  It transforms you from Muhammad Ali to... Mike Tyson lol

I saw on tumblr that if you have the subtitles on during a dragon fight, you can see that the dragon says "Dovahkiin, no" right before he dies. Kind of sad, in a way.

Tell me about it.  After I got my orc into an upgraded Orcish set with an ebony sword and put Farkas in some ebony armor and gave him Wuuthrad, we went out adventuring and came to a Forsworn fort.  I was a little worried, because I had gained a couple levels mostly on smithing and alchemy.

It was a bloodbath.  The Forsworn were basically flinging themselves against our armor and dying.

Bioware! That's how you should treat your customers and community!
Im still waiting for the DA2 Toolkit...

Bethesda posted a new article on Bethblog about Update 1.4 and the Creation Kit and Workshop!
The update, Creation Kit and Steam Workshop will be ready for the public near the end of the month. And as always, Bethesda is praising the modders!

From Bethblog:
It’s been a few weeks since our last update on Skyrim’s status, so we wanted to share details on what we’re working on.

The Creation Kit and Steam Workshop are nearly ready. We’re currently working with members of Valve and our modding community to do some final testing, and we’re on track for a public release near the end of the month. We think Skyrim modding is one of the game’s best features, and we have the best modders of any game. It’s been a lot of exciting work for us, and we can’t wait to unleash it.

Skyrim’s 1.4 update is currently undergoing testing on all three platforms. The update will include fixes and optimizations for the most common issues people have been reporting (see below). We’re hoping to finalize this next week, and submit it to the console manufacturers for certification, as well as release on PC.

Our current update plan for the PC is to first release our updates as “beta” versions through Steam. This is something you’ll be able to opt into through Steam and back-out of if needed. This is an extra safety check for everyone going forward and should expedite and improve our updating process for our PC users. We’ll have more info soon on how this will work.

Echoing what we said back in December, we’ll continue to look into issues that are being reported and subsequent updates will follow. You have all supported Skyrim in a huge way, and we’ll be supporting all of you, and continue to make the game better.

After the break, check out the current changelog for 1.4.

Current 1.4 Changelog (all platforms unless noted)

NEW FEATURES[/b]

Skyrim launcher support for Steam Workshop (PC)[/list]

Thanks for the feedback folks, Companions seems to be the runaway winner. I've completed them all before, I was just wondering which would give me the best bang for my buck going from 10-20 in. Wuuthrad here I come.

Yeah, they talk to you during the entire fight. You can also sometimes see which shout they are about to use. As a Nord I love when I see the cold about to come out as I know I can just step up and start wailing.

When they are about to die they yell 'Dovahkiin? NO!'

He does say this.  The voices are so soft (and I have it turned on max) I can't see how the game can be played without subtitles.

Well that would be quite challenging. And maybe even impossible to pull off, seeing how you'd NEED the Heavy Armor perk that adds glove armor rating to fist damage. And at the very least max Smithing and very best gloves possible.

You need heavy armor, smithing, and enchanting to really pull that off.

A) Make the best heavy armor gloves you can
B) Find the Pugilist gloves in the Riften ratway
C) Enchant your gloves with it

Soon you will be punching just as hard as you can hit with a weapon.

Oh last night I got ambushed by some Thalmor agents.
With my perks and Voldunrung it was a three hit fight.

Smacked em all so hard with a power attack that they died quite quickly.
Doing 100 damage with 75% of armor ignored is win.

Volenderung is not bad I guess. And it sure looks badass. Being able to chain power attacks ad infinitum sounds really good in theory. In practice with a two-hander eveything dies in 1-2 power attacks anyway, so being able to chain more is kinda moot. Except against frost mages, I never found myself low on stamina. If on the rare occasion you'd want more, there are pots for that too (which I mostly sell).

And if you compare top-end damage, the daedric artifacts are kinda poor. As you can't fully improve them (best I could pull off was Epic, AFAIR), they fall badly behind standard daedric weaponry with Legendary status.

Eh? IIRC you need 90 smithing to make standard Daedric weapons, and 91 smithing to upgrade them to Legendary.

Maybe it's a bug or something, but Daedric smithing doesn't allow to fully improve daedric artifacts.

And the wiki confirms that no perks allow to fully improve the daedric artifacts:

Yep, I've had the subtitles turned on for a few weeks, now. I was tired of not being able to hear conversations I was having, with Mjoll yapping on and on in the background. It's funny to see what Draugr (and dragons) say while fighting.

I know I am! It's fun having an Orc follower, as well. Between the two of us, there are lots of funny grunts to be had. My only regret is not making my Orc's teeth larger.

We were talking last week about whether or not female Orcs had the standard VA for shouts, and I was happy to find out that they use the Orc VA for grunts, shouts, etc. That would have been quite jarring otherwise, I think.
