The Thalmor are in Cyrodiil and control trade between Skyrim and Cyrodiil, whilst the Thalmor themselves are planning another campaign. Talking to the guests at the Embassy reveals this. The Thalmor are hardly going to let the Empire rebuild its military under their nose are they? They have access to Cyrodiil and Skyrim. They have no influence in Hammerfell because after 5 years the Redguard fought them to a standstill and they withdrew. Given the previous necessity of support form Skyrim and Hammerfell to survive the Great War, logically the Empire is going to be in no position to fight the Thalmor on it's own without reinforcements.

If Cyrodiil maintians control over Skyrim ad manages to patch up relations with Hammerfell, then it could survive. If one doesn't support the Storm cloaks then Cyrodiil maintains control of Skyrim, that's the reason.

The Thalmor also seem to be trying to undo Mundus, according to Kirkbride's Altmeri commentary on Talos:

"To kill Man is to reach Heaven, from where we came before the Doom Drum's iniquity. When we accomplish this, we can escape the mockery and long shame of the Material Prison.

To achieve this goal, we must:

1) Erase the Upstart Talos from the mythic. His presence fortifies the Wheel of the Convention, and binds our souls to this plane.

2) Remove Man not just from the world, but from the Pattern of Possibility, so that the very idea of them can be forgotten and thereby never again repeated.

3) With Talos and the Sons of Talos removed, the Dragon will become ours to unbind. The world of mortals will be over. The Dragon will uncoil his hold on the stagnancy of linear time and move as Free Serpent again, moving through the Aether without measure or burden, spilling time along the innumerable roads we once travelled. And with that we will regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit."

Ok, question for you fine folks. I made a new character (melee, which is a bit of a shocker after two ranged characters. I'm like Muhammad Ali vs other guys with 2Hers. Stick and move, stick and move.) and wondering which direction you think I should go to take advantage of my lowbie vulnerability before I become an engine of absolute destruction.

I'm level 10, Nord, 2H, have killed the first dragon, and have done the Companions quests up to becoming a werewolf. (I wanted my Skyforge steel and Wolf armor. Looks soooo awesome.)

-Go join the Stormcloaks and liberate Skyrim, or
-Finish the Companion chain,or
-Join up with the Greybeards and re-create the Blades.

Personally, I advise choosing the Civil War quest before the Main, or watch every choice you made on the truce get reversed or ignored. And I dislike completing the Main quest before having some kind of credibility; seems a bit anti-climatic gettting an award once you have already saved the world. And I disliked spending a lot of time in a war-shredded Whiterun after the Stormcloak solution. But I doubt I will ever choose reuniting the Blades, esp after listening to the widom and golden throated tones of Paarthurnax.

So I recommend:

* Finish the Companions quests.
* Civil War solution.
* Main Quest..

I like doing the MQ before the civil war, as crushing the stormcloak rebellion by utilizing Odahviing is just awesome.

^ I must usually do things in the wrong order, because I've never had Season Unending trigger for me, and have had no idea what people were talking about with the peace talks (with Tullius, Ulfric, Elenwen, Arngeir, etc. on High Hrothgar).

I actually had to look it up. Image IPB

The negotiations only make the Grey Beards all the more awesome.

Tullius: GGRRR REBELS!
Ulfirc: GGRRR EMPIRE!
Both: GRRR WAR!
Greybeards: Uhm guys...end of the world....dragon god of evil? Guys?
Ulfric: THALMOR SUCK!
Elenwen: NO U!
Tullius: KILL YOU!
Greybeards: Uhm people....about Alduin and the end of the world and all....

One thing is for certain my Orc is going to have a hard time resisting the urge to clobber some people when he gets there

Draugr say quite a few interesting things that I'm pretty sure mean something in the ES lore, I just don't know what.

They say *something* about Sovengarde.
They also say "Krosis Slaan" or some such, which I know means something.

Love the Shout and battles; loathe the outcome. Save the dragon and Storm Call for the many Forts and Ruins seen during exploration, and gather the best of both.

@ Yrkoon - you must have a bug with Storm Call; tried it last night during an evening test run of a small Fort, and all the outside defenders were dead before getting to my inside man. It was so short and I needed some perk increases, that I chose to reload and use a slower tactic.

It sucks to be them really....I mean they must have some level of awareness of what is happening and have been stuck like that for thousands of years.

I wonder if they did that on purpose or the Nords did that to them so that no one could use their bases again.

You just have to not join either side, and pursue the MQ.  At the point where you ask Balgruuf for help trapping a dragon, he says he can't with his city under threat of attack, then you have to go talk to the Greybeards.

They aren't peace talks, just a cease fire.  Interesting to see but a waste of time really.

Krosis is regret, not sure about Slaan.  Egad, it starts getting worrisome when you know words in a fantasy language.  lol

Some theorize the draugr were cursed for some reason, maybe for worshipping dragons, which is why they're terrorizing crypt invaders rather than in Sovngarde.

Must be. At level 3 power I have tested Storm call against:

1) some skeletons outside of a ruin
2) thalmor on the roof of the thalmor embassy
3) A pack of Mudcrabs
4) Bandits near mist watch castle
5) various types of dragons

And the result of these? Nothing. Nada. Amount of health diminished from all the aforementioned hostiles? ZERO, even when the lightning animation flat out hit them..

You can also help out one side or the other, a little bit. I gave Markarth to the Stormcloaks and Winterhold to the legion. Enjoy freezing in your miniskirts, legion punks.

Tullius pouted, but I hear that he will complain you're for the Stormcloaks unless you let Elenwen stay.

AFAIK, the talks may fail if you side with one side completely, and either side will complain unless you support them totally...

Just like many posters and threads seen on the Forums! Image IPB

There's no way to really side with one side, as far as I can tell. My character just didn't want the legion in Riften.  That was her home base and she didn't want things shaken up, or Maven to have more power than she already has.

From what I've read in Bethsoft forum, the only time Tullius doesn't claim you're for the Stormcloaks is if you let Elenwen stay. Kind of telling, really.

It also shows how epic Esbern is. He basically tells them all to come to their senses and realize how trivial the civil war is compared to the return of the dragons.

Getting rid of Elenwen is doing a favour for both sides- all she does is try and sabotage the talks. Weird that Tullius goes all butthurt.

Everyone acted stupidly in the talks.

Especially the blades.
Uhm Delphine lets get something straight....I dont work for you,

I did like Paarthurnax said though:
"What is better - to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

Its kind of sad that the Blades do NOTHING for you, and expect EVERYTHING from you.
I wish I could have said what the great George Takei once said:

I disagree, if it wasn't for the blades, particularly Esbern, Dovahkiin would never have defeated Alduin.

The only knowledge he gives you is Dragonrend.

Which if not for Alduin being the ONLY dragon to use it on would be utterly useless.
Seriously you dont even need the shout for all the other dragons.

Tullius is pretty bad ass at the Windheilm siege. i got the feeling he was one of those generals that liked to keep away from the fighting, but i was wrong lol he is defiantley one of my favorite characters in Skyrim.

do you think Tullius is racist or he just doesn't understand the Nords?

people seem to have fun playing Orcs

I know I am! It's fun having an Orc follower, as well. Between the two of us, there are lots of funny grunts to be had. My only regret is not making my Orc's teeth larger.
Image IPB

We were talking last week about whether or not female Orcs had the standard VA for shouts, and I was happy to find out that they use the Orc VA for grunts, shouts, etc. That would have been quite jarring otherwise, I think.

shouting with a Orc should be cool.  i can't see many characters fitting their shouts, besides Nords and Orcs........anyway,i'm having fun getting rich with my imperial lol

Tullius is a weenie. His whole bored "I'd rather be doing something else than putting down barbarians" is not very inspiring, and he has unfortunate hair. Rikke is a good one, though.

Shouting on my orc is going to seem redundant, almost unfair to the enemies. I tried out Beast form on a vampire dungeon last night- omg, so much win. Between that and Berserk, she's awesomely fearsome. I keep thinking that she and Farkas running through some podunk Skyrim village should inspire more fear than they do.

i think Dovahkiin could of done it without the Blades, would of just been much harder.  other then translating a few things, i dont remember the blades doing much for you

haha, that's why i like Tullius.  he is based off the typical Roman general. lol  I liked Rikke, too.  She makes some good points about Nords and the Empire.

i'm trying to get rid of the werewolf form, i just do better picking off people from stealth, but i think my companions quest is glitched.

Without the blades, Dovahkiin would probably be chilling with the greybeards practicing the (useless) way of the voice while Alduin laid waste to the world. The blades are the only ones who seem to be actively trying to stop Alduin.

If you get the Ring of Hircine you can do it twice in one day.
That comes in very handy at times if you go between zones.
