Thugs 0
Running through a giant camp is such a handy trick to deal with thugs.
Its like the ultimate tag team match.
I saw two thugs go so high in the sky that they vanished.
LOOKS LIKE TEAM THUG IS BLASTING OFF AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me - "What happened? Did you forget to take the trash out or what?"
*staring at the mile high pile on top of the trash can*
My son - "No. It's just...I used to take the trash out...til I took an arrow to the knee."
*smirk*
Me - "Your knees aren't the only targets from what I see"
Pretty much every other day there's some Skyrim reference. Lots of sweetroll jokes. Oi!

It's an interesting study watching the "evolution" of the powergaming train of thought since Skyrim came out last november.Giggles_Manically wrote...
I know some people who say you cant play Skyrim without Stealth and/or magic.
Those people are what I like to call wrong.
My Orc never uses magic or stealth and he never has any real problem with anything short of dragons or Dragonpriests.
Right about the time the game was released the general consensus was: magic or GTFO..
Shortly after that it was: Stealth + dual-wielding daggers rule, while magic + anything else sucks.
Today, people are finally coming around to appreciating the sheer overpoweredness of a well built 2-hander Orc... Something *I* was pointing out way back on page 325 or so of this thread... on November 12th.

I always facepalm at people who tell you what the "correct" build in an RPG is.
There is no right or wrong class, or correct build.
Having played each I can say that they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Sword and sheild lacks pure damage output.
2-handed lacks any real defense
Dual wielding even more so.
Archers can do one hit kills but can be easily swarmed
While pure mages are uber-squishy.
Each skill comes in handy, but its not REQUIRED I found.
Small correction; I cannot play Skyrim w/o Stealth, but Magic is only somewhat needed for Healing.
Playing melee is my greatest weakness; have no reactions skills which makes melee kinda tough. It is far easier for me to use Archery and Stealth, and one shot from comfort.
And my Mage is all about defense; stop the incoming damage, and that gives me lots of options for offense.
But to these observations:
* What of Block? I barely have used it, but did notice that I was even doing some fair damage with Block with my Bound Bow spell. And plenty here have been praising the Stagger effects with shields. Is the damage that much lower than other forms?
* 2H and DW would seem to benefit greatly with Armor of choice, as well as Smithing and/or Enchanting buffs. Plus they seem to kill the opponent much faster, so additional defense may not be much of an issue
* Add Stealth to Archery (or any basic class) and one has a rather nice secondary defense. No swarms if they cannot see me.
One small concern for me is I dislike improving Armor by actually being hit. This seems to kinda defeat the purpose. Eventually it pays off, but is rather ironic that the biggest perk for Light Armor is avoiding damge; my primary thought in the first place. And if the cap is reached, being Light or Heavy seems to make little difference in the higher lvls at all.
I do agree that there is no one way to play; would not choose to go Crafting as much as others, but they do seem to have the best gear. For me, I choose Stealth and Archery as my strengths.
P.S. Rather than add a new post, here are examples of two Quest extremes for myself; all but hate the first, but really enjoy almost all of the latter:

[*]Staff of Magnus

So did anyone ever figure out how to get out of Wolfskull Cave/Temple? I could clear it, but I could never figure out how to jump back up out of the hole to get back to Wolfskull Cave.
From the Wikia:
"... On the roof of the first tower, kill the necromancers who are conducting the ceremony, including the ritual master. Then, use a lever to drop a wooden bridge over to the next tower. Loot the chest here before continuing. Now, head down and exit a door back into a Wolfskull Cave passage. At the end, jump down a short distance next to the cart in the initial small cavern and exit the cave."
Hope this helps!

On the platform where the summoning circle is, there is a lever that lowers a drawbridge. It's easy to miss in dim lighting.Mike Smith wrote...

Waa, it took me until my 8th character to make an Orc!
It took me a while, admittedly, but I eventually saw the light.

And even with level 41 my Nord warrior is now so overpowered most of the time that he just beats everyone into submission in no time anyway.
Oh yeah and something else that bothered me yesterday: So I put quite a bit of effort into getting smithing to 100 because I though: "Yeah, I'll be able to make fancy dragon armor!", put the perk point (which I find si quite valuable at this stage) into the talent, made the armor and it's not even as good as daedric? WTF? It's lighter alright but who cares, I got the conditioning perk long ago so it doesn't matter AND I can't even make new cool weapons. Quite the let-down that one.

Me too (as far as forgetting spells). But I've only recently started playing with magic seriously, so I forget alot of spells. Having recently discovered Bound Sword, by the gods, I have nearly become a wrecking ball dual casting it in concert with a flame atronach, zombie, familiar or revenant for a distraction. Not to mention, I cannot even believe you get can level one-handed using it. Conjuration also levels fast, and has given me real momentum to keep pushing up even at level 55.
My build has started shifting ever-so-slightly from sword/shield to a healthy mix of s/s and conjuration.

Don't let that bug you. The Shouts were designed so that they wouldn't unbalance the game should players aquire them early. This means they cannot be very powerful, and they'll definitely not stack up, powerwise, to any standard attack from a 40th level character. Basically there really ISN'T a point to them beyond role playing (my Ignus-clone character begins every encounter with Firebreath... not to do damage, but because Fire is his signature.)MrFob wrote...
What always bugs me about myself when playing skyrim is hat I never use shouts. I simply forget about them which is a real shame. I havent used shouts for more then maybe 10 times in my 90 or so hours of playing.
And even with level 41 my Nord warrior is now so overpowered most of the time that he just beats everyone into submission in no time anyway.
Some Shouts, however, do maintain a utility purpose throughout the game. Stealth characters, for example, will always have a use for Throw Voice. Become Ethereal will always be useful if you're on top of a high cliff and you want to jump to the bottom to get where you're going faster, but don't want to die from the jump. And Dragon Rend is a great way to bring those annoying "I'll never land!" dragons down to the ground so you can kill them with your melee attacks.

Bowling over troops during the civil war is awesome.
Though I prefer calling in Odahviing for that.
He really shows off WHY dragons are scary monsters in fantasy.
Not that slightly longer to kill monsters that drop from the sky we got mostly.

True, each build has strrenght and weaknesses and all can be equally fun, even if some are more challenging then others (like pure mage, no conjuration). Still I'm having a blast with my solo mage-assasin.
But I cannot agree that 2-handed lacks defence. Two handed weapons can be used just fine to block and bash. With Heavy Armor they are indestructible juggernoughts. And with the force their power attacks create, enemies rarely even get the chance to retaliate. Their only real weakness is against magic users/dragons, but this can be relatively easily remedied with equipment/standing stones/race/+an easy quest.
About the usefullness of the Shouts: Whirlwind Sprint is often nice as well. And let's not forget Elemental Fury. It will often make regular, unenchanted weapons superior to enchanted stuff. Particularly for a Two-hander, the difference in swing speed is amazing. Though if you only ever Power Attack (like I did past level 30 or so), it becomes a bit moot. Still fun to swing some regular attacks at high speed from time to time.

She's got Derkeethus for lockpicking so appart from 2-H, Heavy, Smithing and Speech she's got little perks to put into anything. Lvl 12 atm
