You know I always will forever facepalm at Astrid.

Kidnap a warrior of some renown and LEAVE THEM FULLY ARMED AND ARMORED before telling them to kill someone.

No wonder the Dark Brotherhood has fallen to pieces if that seems like sound logic to them.

Still though since Cicero and Babette are the only ones NOT there it seems safe to say that the emperor will get assassinated no matter what happens to the Dark brotherhood.
So much for the Mede's I guess.

Bit of a rant here, but I'm kinda annoyed that Morthal, Dawnstar, Winterhold and Falkeath have no houses you can purchase. I find a ton of s**t when I go out dungeon crawling, and it's nice to have a home where you can stash all that crap you collected so you can sell it off later.

EDIT: Not to mention a badass House Carl to accompany you when needed.

I was hoping to rebuild the burnt house in Morthal.  Mods will address this, no doubt.  There are already mods to change a few cabins into player homes.

edit- Ack, I'm at the point where Farkas is asking to be cured.  Decisions.  :?  My main problem is that I don't get an option to cure myself.  I wonder if I should have done that first, before taking his quest.

When I was wandering up the throat of the world I kind of wondered which city I would actually live in.

Solitude is near the top I think of that list.
Markarth is not even in the running.

Dawnstar, Winterhold and Windhelm are off the list for sure to cold.
Riften is to corrupt and Falkreath is to moody.

It is kind of awesome to own Proudspire manor though after a while.
Going from a penniless nobody to the most powerful person in the province is kind of awesome.

Heh the selling point is not even rags to riches but Skyrim does that pretty well.

I don't like Proudspire Manor. The layout is very poor IMO. Honeyside has more character, even Breezehome though that is cramped (until I farm Lydia out to the Blades, especially).

I hate the freaking fire place in Breezehome.

I do like the house you get in Windhelm.
Then again it was the house of a serial killer...and that just is to disturbing to me.
Plus the house in Markarth makes me think I am in a Dwemer ruin and I keep expecting a Falmer jump out at me.

Proudspire's only real problem for me is that its just to big really.
Like it is just way to showy really.

He only took over that house after he murdered its occupant- it wasn't really his, but I guess it did become his necromancy den.

Honeyside in Riften is my favorite. It feels seperated from the city, and it's got that "cabin" feel to it. And it has both a riften and a skyrim exit.

But really, there no reason you can't get all the houses then use  them all as pit stops

Check the Wiki for this.  The quest is bugged and requires a particular order to get yourself cured if you don't immediately do so during the initial Kodlack quest.

I did get the option to cure myself, but only after I had done both Purity quests for Vilkas and Farkas. So, not a werewolf anymore... I didn't use Beast Form that much, but mainly I did it for story reasons. I figure my orc would not refuse Farkas' request, and then wouldn't want to stay a werewolf herself either. He's so happy when he gets cleansed.

I can see why people conclude that Skyrim is easy, if they take the warrior route and quickly spam smithing and enchanting.  That and a few daedric artifacts and you're invincible.  If they then try a mage, it's no wonder they're frustrated.  The mass of complaint threads in the forum are starting to make sense, even if people do it to themselves by powergaming.

I think Honeyside is probably my favourite house in terms of appearance and where the furniture goes, although I wish there was another chest downstairs for storing alchemy/enchanting stuff. I can't place items on the shelves, they just roll off and make a mess. One of these times my nord warrior-mage Atheldred is going to step on one of those chaurus eggs, break his neck and Jenassa will find his cold dead body on the floor in the morning.

The exit to Skyrim is also a big bonus as far as I'm concerned.

But on the other hand Breezehome is situated so well for the blacksmith's and just the general wealth of merchants in Whiterun.

I like the garden at Honeyside, too, though I learned not to pick stuff because it takes forever to respawn.

Epic game. loved playing it. they kept a lot of the armor names but changed the models since oblivion. Wish i woulda kept it longer but i decided to get rid of it. I was always a Nord and used the best equipment. never used spells unless needed.

I generally like the home in Markath, as it seems fitting for my more barbaric characters & spouses; just hate that exit of death and the neighbors.

Breezeholm has some great people, but is a deathtrap, and not recommended for the claustrophobic.

Proudspire is my fave overall choice due to the many places given to place stuff; makes my organized needs very well. But is so large that the Housecarl often mistakes me for a visitor.

The other two have environmental issues; cannot stand either locale. Still, Honeyside is better than a bad in the sewers, and once the blood and bones are removed, the secret room in Windhelm is more appealing.

Had a rather tough encounter with my Orc Archer/ 2H remake.

Was going to take out the bandits at Silent Moon and that Lunar Forge at 16th, when halfway in the hunt, a dragon comes in to try for a buffet feast of all of us. So I am attempting to circle the forge while dodging both dragon strafes and hiding from angry bandit Mages spamming Ice Spikes. Took a few reloads, but I dood it; minus the dragon kill because it became bored with all that waiting, I guess.

See thats why i never used bows unless i was sneaking. i just used the thuum and then just used brute force to destroy my enemies.  it worked pretty well. until i fought dragons<_<

The tough part was doing this in full Dwarven armor; no perks in Heavy Armor yet, and only a few in Stealth.

And has anyone else had difficulty with the Thief pit-stop between Whiterun and the Halted Stream Camp? I forget about the second wave every time, and get pinned down with no exit in sight. Still, a nice place for a free horse if one is desperate.

Well you may have had a better chance if you had used a lighter and more quiet set of armor and took out the mages as fast as possible then used the thuum to stun however many people you could and then go in for the attack. also what helps me when i get surrounded is u use ice breath and freeze people and kill them quick before they dethaw.

That might work... except the plan is to utilize Heavy Armor; not Light for once, and I have only a single word Shout to my name. This was done trying to wrap up some local Whiterun business before going to see the Greybeards.

The biggest difference thus far is having to watch the possible extra encumberance until I am able to aquire the proper perk. And Murphy seems to find it amusing to place many of the sought effects on Light Armor this session, when there were plenty of Heavy cool nifty gear seen during my past runs.....

I find my stealth build to be really a one-hit wonder,
Its AMAZING when you get the head shot or back stab, but if you dont...well prepare to get beat to snot quite painfully.

Then again my Sword and Sheild build really lags behind in the damage department even though my sword does 90 damage. Sometimes its VERY annoying to just wail on a foe and hope they die.

This is when a little bit of extra Stamina, as well as linking it with Health via Restoration, seems to make those occasional extra shots really work. Those slow motion perks in Archery can help adjust for speed, or simply keep track of surrounding targets. And if you are far enough away that you must use Eagle Eye to target someone, this appears to mean that they are most likely NOT going to see you (eg; useful in sniping at Hagraven covens).

As for daggers, while not all of the One handed perks apply, there may be a couple; may help increase dmg output. And with the proper equipment, one may get 30 times dmg or more, but I rarely try and get this close; the Thalmor Embassy is such an exception.

The housecarls always think you're a stranger. I'm sure it's a scripting bug.

Lydia: "Put that down!"

Oh yeah. She's going to the Blades. And I don't even like the Blades.

You eventually can get a perk that lets you disappear in combat.

On my orc warrior, I put one point in archery and carry a good bow just for dragons.  Once you get Dragonrend it's not really an issue.

heh! Have never had a problem with Lydia, but also have not spoken to her since her introduction as I avoid followers.

Annoying NPC of the Week: Idolaf Battle-Born

Evidently being honest about not liking someone's Clan for harrassing citizens is not a great way to endear the Dragonborn to this gent in Whiterun, After he harrasses the lovely lady Smith, he then brings his act to the shopping stall of the grieving wife of the best Smith in Skyrim; then asks me who is preferred: Battle-Born or Gray-Manes. So my Orc told him.

Now anytime I pass him him, he threatens me with a brawl, but if I take him up on it it, he draws a blade and the guards assist him until I surrender. So what to do now....

As I mentioned earlier, I have never used Lydia, but I might try this: ask her to follow, then stand outside my home. Wait for Battle-mouth to stroll by and threaten me, then while he is talking, head inside Breezehome and punch him if and when he follows, then let Lydia protect my home from the intruder.

For those that use followers, will this actually work?

P.S. Don't know about Battle-Born, but it works well enough on Nazeem if one is willing to pay a fine or use the Thane pardon, and most likely be placed on the widow's hit list.

I don't think NPCs in your house count as intruders, but you could try. That might be fun.
