While I didn't start with my Nord on Skyrim's release and instead started when I got it on Christmas, I think I've got over 200 or over 300 hours logged.

I've had a lot of free time lately. Plus, it's -20 to 13 degrees outside here in Michigan usually, so I tend to stay indoors, especially since my truck's CD player doesn't work in the cold.

And I hate driving anywhere without music. It's just something that oddly makes me unable to drive. It's part of my routine, and to break away from it when I'm driving feels wrong.

Anyway, Skyrim. I've just been doing side quest after side quest and have yet to free Skyrim for the Stormcloaks or talk to the Greybeards. All I've done so far is conquer Whiterun for the Stormcloaks.

My Nordic master-of-all-trades absolutely dominated the battlefield and decimated the enemy troops before lowering the drawbridge. At which point, there was really no one left to kill.

Oh yea, and I just recently killed a Dragon in Werewolf form, under a purple and blue skyline. That made me feel like a badass.

I stopped playing my first character just shy of 400 hours, but I'm now up to my 8th. I have an unnatural desire to create characters. Some of them are not full playthroughs; most I stopped around level 30, and a couple are just low-level noobs that I got to Whiterun, and shelved (temporarily).

I stopped counting the amount of hours when my cumulative total between all playthroughs was over 700. Since 11/11/11, I've played more than I've slept or worked, and that is a very strange feeling...of course, that still doesn't stop me from playing.

I have two characters, the first one was a DE sneaky witch thief mix that I got up to lvl 62. I had not done any of the main quests and only completely finished the Thieves Guild quest line but I had logged about 200 hours into it before I realized that I pretty much hosed the skill trees by putting perks into everything instead of specializing. So I switched over to a Cat and I finally got this one up to lvl 61 and have about 300ish hours into it. I still have not finished the Main Quest but I did make it through the Civil War, Thieves Guild, Companions and Dark Brotherhood quests. I have not been to Winterhold at all yet. I will be sticking with this character though until I have exhausted all possible interactions in the game that I can find. I do not relish the thought of starting all over again with a new character type until I have made it all the way through the game with at least one character.

The funny part is that with the new character there has been a ton of new stuff that I had not run into with my previous character during that play-through. So I have not done a lot of retracing of steps yet. Which I find amazing that a game can have this much content in it and still be really interesting. I know it has been said a million times before but the only thing that would make this game absolutely perfect is if their story lines and NPC interaction had some depth that drew you into really caring about the ppl in the game. The Thieves Guild got really close but then it took a nose dive at the end. Almost like someone pulled the fire alarm button in the middle of coding and writing out the storyline but by the time everyone got back into the build they had forgotten about it and started a new project.

^ I did that same thing in my first playthrough. I just couldn't decide what to do, and every perk seemed like something I absolutely had to have. To make it worse, my intent was to be a pure mage, but then I threw in 1-handed, and before I knew it, my character was a spellsword. And not a very focused one, at that. I've done a much better job with balancing in subsequent playthroughs.

I've found a lot of stuff in this playthrough that I missed in previous ones; not sure what's up with that. I think maybe I've got a better handle on how to actually reach remote locations. In the beginning, I spent way too much time focusing on quest markers, and subconsciously just went straight towards them, instead of trying to find the logical path to them. That equated to lots of time scaling cliff walls.

Character interaction could have been better, true, but I really don't mind, because there are so many other things keeping me occupied.

...And tbh, if I start caring about NPCs, I'll probably have to stop playing. The first time I let Louis Letrush take Frost, and saw them get butchered by bandits, it was nearly the end for me. Heck, the first time I stumbled upon Meeko, he was lying dead on the ground, because a dragon had just roasted him. I simply can't recruit dogs or horses, because I don't want to see anything happen to them. Shadowmere I can handle, because he's pretty close to invincible. Barbas, no thanks.

It would tear me up to befriend characters, start caring about them, only to receive their last will and testament after getting killed by...I don't know, a mudcrab? I'm a softie; I don't think I could take it.

I think that is one of the very reasons I am on my 3700th save because even with the limited depth that the NPC's have I still care for quite a few of them and it does devastate me when they get chomped and flipped up in the air by a dragon. One of the most horrifying experiences in my first playthrough was in Kynesgrove with the Mage chic that is there.

I had just completed getting her frost salts and headed back to Kynesgrove to give them to her. She just started to thank me for the deed when a Dragon literally swooped down from nowhere and chomped her right in front of me. I just sat there in complete shock and horror while my husband was laughing so hard he could barely breathe. I of course reloaded and the second time I made sure to wait around for the dragon to come to me down by the road instead of running up to the village first.

I love NPC depth, Bioware did that to me. They made me care about the story, the ppl in the game, my character's responses to those scenario's, etc. and I loved every minute of it. I like hating ppl, loving them, having heartbreak and joy, it makes you invested into what you are doing and for me that has always been the appeal to role-playing games. But I do understand some ppl not liking it. It is not for them for whatever reason but it is definitely something that is a big part of what I look for in games and what keeps me playing a game.

And I agree with you, I would like to rename Barbas to Punt Puppy. So damn annoying... and if I was playing on the PC I would definitely install the Kill Kid mod and get my revenge on that snot kid in Riverwood for sending Thugs to kill me. I had to reload my game twice because one of the thugs kept beheading me within the first three seconds of the fight.

I'm on my 4th character, I don't know how many hours I've put in, but definitely did not max out any of them. The highest level I got to was 50-something for my thief character, my first character got up to level 38. I get restless after a while and would rather start a new character if I've got an idea for one.

Next I'll probably roll a Nord male, have been wanting to do that. I think I'll base him on Raef Corbansson, my favorite character from a Viking series by Cecelia Holland. The series was historical fantasy, Raef had some magical ability especially over water and was a navigator for ships. Not sure how to translate that exactly, but will probably make my Nord a spellsword. I haven't done the Bards' College quests yet so I guess he'll be a singing spellsword.

hehe, I used to love Horkers until I went into Riften and saw what one particular woman does with their tusks. I will never pick up another tusk unless it is looted off of the Horker's body directly. ;)

Yes, any resemblance to the usual fantasy lore is just the TES writers preparing to **** with your brain.

What do people have against elves anyway.

The sole of my boot? Sorry; those are Smurfs.... Image IPB

I prefer Elves to look fantastic in a fantasy; not like ET in a bad wig. And Dwarves that are slender?! No wonder they vanished; better to be simply imagined, than presented as anorexic garden ornaments.

Uh.. okay.  We haven't seen any dwemer yet, at least not rendered in good graphics, but to me they just look like the other elven races but with Greek features and styling.  I have no particular commitment to short, stout ale-burping type figures in fantasy, so I guess it doesn't bother me they're a type of elves.  To me the physical differences in the races are the least interesting thing about them.  Cultural, social and political differences are enough.  I would just as soon that the beast races not look like cats and lizards, either.

Finally managed a walkaround for the Light's Out! quest using a console command to make the pair of Argonians non-essential. After all this time, they were still approaching me for that job, so I took her out at extreme range, and this advanced the quest to meet the brother in Broken Oar Grotto. Now the pirates are all gone too, and the quest is off the book.

While I wanted to let the guards kill them both, I could not devise a plan that would keep me out of trouble, too. This forced me to go with a few Extreme Stealth devices to get away in broad daylight, but the end result is worth it.

I just got one of the most lol worthy perks in Skyrim.

Reflect Blows from the heavy armor tree.
A drauger death lord just wound up to smack me but got itself killed.
Than I just let some skeletons beat themselves to death as I walked through the dungeon.

It is very funny to see a giant kill itself from hitting you.

I am kind of annoyed since I painted myself into an RP corner.
I wont use magic on my Orc...but if I want to get into Saarthal I have to get into the College.
Meaning unless I break RP I cant get the amulet. I really want that amulet though so maybe I can just RP he joined because of him being able to shout or something.

Exactly; the Dwarves depicted in this forum remind me more of a certain travel happy Gnome lawn ornament from TV; not a Dwarf.

But I am not into the strerotyped role either. I would be quite content to see TES Dwarves depicted as by the upper torso  of the Spheres riding about on patrols in Dwemer ruins. And they do not need to deformed liked the LotR film versions; much prefer they would look like JRD before the make-up.

And my characters rarely ever drink; hate the projected image myself.

Whicjh beasts would you prefer? I was hoping for more of the Rakshasa-esque conception art with the longbow myself; not Hello Kitty.

Her bed has shackles over it.
With Stamina potions on the shelf.
And leather strips on the dresser.

Damn, just damn.

Try this: get the silly Spell Tomes needed for the quests, and show those milk-drinking mages that even a Orc Warrior can master the sleight of hand needed to enroll - or even graduate - from that so-called College. But see if one can weild or withstand that hammer, and prove that nothing bests an Orc!

I don't know what you mean by lawn ornament. I would say lawn gnomes look more like the traditional LOTR type dwarf than the dwemer. I would guess their spheres and centurions are meant to look like the masks in their armor.

I'm not much of a fantasy buff myself. I could just as soon do without furries of any type.

I waited until last night to try to get into the college (level 38 on my Orc warrior), and was asked to cast Fear...which I had literally just acquired. I have not spent a single level-up on Magicka, and was unable to cast the spell. Back to Whiterun to rummage through chests to find an amulet. *sigh*

Speaking of Winterhold, I did the Drowned Sorrows quest for Ranmir for the first time. I didn't even know that quest existed. It was kind of sad.

Balimund has leather strips in his bedroom, too, but I'm guessing they're not there for the same purpose.  Unless the dovahkiin makes him an apprentice.  Image IPB

About the college- I heard you can gain entry using a thu'um.  Did you try that?

Wonder if using a Staff of the same spell would suffice? There are several in the game that dupe known spells.

Yeah, if you tell the Door guard chick that you're Dragon born and you need to get inside, she'll ask you to 'prove it' with a shout. So you shout. She likes it, and lets you into the college.

I too hate that you can't access Sarenthaal without being a mage apprentice.

You don't always get the prompt to say you're a Dragonborn. The only time I got it was late in the game when I needed to get the Elder Scroll. And they still treat your level 40 character who has a vast collection of dragonbons and dragonscales in their home as an "apprentice."

Oh that sounds interesting I will have to try it.

Guess I can just grab Spell Breaker to use its ward as well to since that is what the wiki says.
I guess they would say its okay for someone who can use the Thu'um to join since it is technically magic.

Though if my Orc wrote it it would be:
Unrelenting Force: Use this if you want to knock someone on their ass.
Fire Breath: Use this if you want to light some annoying twerp on fire
Marked For Death: Use this on really annoying people to make them less annoying.

I always imagine my Orc being very stoic and saying as few words as possible.
