It would be nice to refer back to to the Original then. I havent played any of the early ES games so it would be an opportunity to show the Arena is still dominated by tradition (to some extent), for those that have. Those who havent it will be a new experience all together.

Well, that's not how Arena turned out, but thats what they stated with. Hence the name, Arena.

But, I think it would be a nice addition, if they make it more varied and harder. Oblivion's level scaling made Level 1 Arena Champions more than a litle silly.

I would like Arena matches and also battles to be a bit larger scale (More combatants) and harder. With that said, I sure hope they improve fighting with companions... "Ok, one more strike and he's down..." "I'm on your side!"

And thats why I never ever, ever took a companion with me. Or if I was in a quest I had to, I'ld rush in, swing once or twice then leave it to them. Its like they just ignored the fact I had a sword, swining it at some dude. Hell they did that with each other. Like it was some mages guild quest, and well we had to ambush some dudes, and two of my BM's hit each other, then once we kill all the Necro's go for each other. Just nuts how the AI acted when it came to allies. And god forbid you brought a ghost into town. All the villagers would rush to fist fight it, with all of them unsurprisingly dead at the end of it.

Yes, you are absolutely right, even in New Vegas and FO3, I recruit companions for their quests, dialogue and perks, but never bring them along if I can avoid it.

It seems in previous Beth games, either the Companions are made essential (unkillable), in which case it is like playing in god mode and quickly becomes boring.

Or companions are not "essential" and they quickly get themselves killed in combat.

As much as I am hoping for great stuff with companions in Skyrim, I'm expecting that I will probably tell them to "wait outside" the dungeon until I kill everybody inside and it's safe. I probably won't bring them along into dungeons, but I will still enjoy the roleplaying aspects of this feature.

Agreed, companions are unpredictable at the best of times. Especially on NV where it was supposedly improved. You would try sneaking around enemies you didnt want to engage and they did anyway. You lay down a frag mine and they charge in front of it making it useless. They get stuck behind walls and cant path up stairs correctly.

You have to play your tactic based around your companion. Which is annoying enough when they are shooting at range with guns in NV. But up close melee in Skyrim I cant see anything but frustration.

Woaaaaah, I just realized already seven months have passed since I created this thread... Time flies.
EDIT: I wanted to thank to many people contributing to this thread, especially since i was offline from BSN for 3 months. You can expect me to improve the first post with all the new info and adding the names of contibutors. I hope this thread will stay active even when the game comes out.

See I wish they would improve this kinda stuff instead of adding in stuff like marriage. I foresee alot of tales along the lines of "Well I was fighting a Minotaur when I accidently killed my wife with a dragon shout because instead of staying out of the way she attacked it with her bare hands..."

Personally I don't think I'll be using companions much anyway as I tend to favour a stealth route until I size up the situation. I like to keep my options open but with companions you end up reacting to their stupidity rather than coming up with your own tactics.

I do hope its massively improved from previous games but unless you have some sort of direct control over them then I can't see it being improved enough for me to use too much.

Theres been a lot of new info of late with the fan interview and the 30 minute Demo.  Heres a run down on whats new as of 5th July.

1.Quests are more like Oblivion's than Fallout 3's, in that there are more, but smaller quests.
2.Sprinting while wearing heavy armor drains stamina faster than if wearing light armor.
3.You can make friends by doing things for them, making them act differently, and even join you on adventures.
4.You can get married, and if you own a house, he/she will move in with you.
5.There is a set of armor made of (something from) dragons. There is both heavy and light variants of this.
6.Common armor, like leather and steel will have a more Nordic feel over it.
7.Enchanting works like in Oblivion, with the exception that it's now a skill and can be improved upon.
8.The effects you can use are also changed, as well as how you learn to use these effects. You learn it by "breaking down" a magic item you find.
9.Racial movement speed is the same, and is governed by your equipment. Encumbrance is based on your stamina attribute.
10.There are non-lethal tavern brawls in the game.
11.Some buildings can be destroyed, but destroyable buildings are rare.
12.Dragons leaves marks and scars everywhere.
13.Males and females have different animations, and beast races have some different animations.
14.There is a sort of Karma system in the game, but there are no numbers. If you have been bad, people will acknowledge this, but no number will indicate this.
15.The blacksmith’s shop includes a forge, a grindstone, and a smithing bench. You can improve your weapons at the grindstone. The higher your skill, the more you can improve them, and the more damage they’ll do. Same thing for armor with the smithing bench, only the armor rating gets better. The forge is actually used to create new weapons and armor from raw materials.
16.The only sounds your characters makes, is combat grunts and shouts.
17. Upper and lower body armor is combined (Greaves and cuirass). This allows for more characters on the screen, better visuals and a lot more armors.

I'd say there will be atleast one Oblivion gate even if its just part of a sidequest.

There wont be Oblivion Gates.  You closed the entrances to Oblvion in IV.

However Im sure you can go to a Daedra Shrine and get teleported into Oblivion for some reason, like in the last game.  I would be rather disapointed if you couldnt do this tbh.

To be honest, in my later playthroughs, every trip to Oblivion felt like a chore. I sure hope if there is an oblivion gate, that it will be unique.

Hopefully we'll see a few other daedric realms in Skyrim or if not in Skyrim in a future TES release. In Oblivion we only got to see Dagon's realm (and Peryite's which was remarkably similar to Dagon's realm).

None of this is confirmed yet, but on the Skyrim Forums a guy (who posts often and seems honest) says that a new Playstation Mag had an interview with Todd Howard. It talked about how magical defenses will be changed so that you can throw up a magic ward around yourself. The ward will deflect spells casted at you, but a strong spell will break the ward, causing you to stagger. This sounds awesome to me, because it adds a sense of excitement when you have to hope your wards will withstand the blows of an enemy mage, and you have to hope your spells will break their wards.

I never used companions unless I had to in a quest based mission. All NPC companions got their butts kicked quickly... usually by Clannfears. Granted, Clannfears gave me fits, too (I remember once pausing with two on my tail....low on life and only a weak fortify health potion to take....I hotkeyed heal, put on every enchanted item I had on that fortified speed, unpaused and ran like hell healing myself) but they were just kind of in my way and didnt even fight that well.

In The Elder Scrolls, I personally love the feel of solo isolation....coughing in on my own, kind of like Samus Aran used to be in Metroid. I love the on my own feel, holding a torch and walking through a forest at night as its pouring, seeking the entrance to this new undiscovered cave that undoubtedly held a new weapon, treasure and hidden secrets...

Im not gonna have companions again either unless I have to

Interesting idea actually, but I doubt it will be added to be honest. Most the clothing in Skyrim sounds like armours. Perhaps the Mages Robes would benefit from this, but often they just include multiple varients like in Oblivion. They can then tweak these varients with different colours and alter the styles slightly too.

Nothing new as of E3.  If you havent seen all the E3 footage, go back a couple of pages and naughty linked a 30 min demo showing it all

Hmm I'ld say the only dissapointment, and not a major one, is that the armor will be sticking to a Nordish feel. Would like to have seen armor from many other styles, but that would be more likely in a trade based region.

Besides that I find the dynamics of the side quests to be neat. No way one class can get them all. And with 60 hours via the main plot, and 100's more of side quests, and thats without mods, it should keep everyone busy along time. Honestly I think I'll hate November. Skyrim, Rage, Saints Row the Thrid, And HALO Remasterd, I will have very little free time lol.

Argonians now control Morrowind, but im sure you're well aware of that! :P

It won't be long probably until they start tearing apart some of Morrowind's greatest architecture and forests and replacing them with their own architecture and more water to swim in....

The only thing that could conflict with having children are the race combinations...

From what I know.

Men can breed with mer.
It is unknown whether the beast races can breed with the other races.
The child is 'usually' of the mother's species.

EDIT: Discussed in Notes on Racial Phylogeny

well there was the Gray Prince in oblivion who was the arena champion and he just had very pale skin

The bigger the better. I have 3 TB space to waste. Disc swapping is not going to be PC issue anyway.

What would be better is if you used the first disc to play the game like any other but beforehand you'd use the second disc to download a lot of game info directily to your Xbox/pc/playstation so you would have no need to swap discs at all.
