It was nearly impossible for me in my first run of FONV to replace Boone.
Then I had a very loud squee when I picked him up again and heard him say "Is it time?"

Since it was right before I was starting the final leg against the Legion.
Yes buddy it is time.

Oh yeah, I always take Boone.  He's my main man.  I did get a mod where I could take more than one companion, so I got to see Cass' and Lily's personal quests.  Could never get Arcade's or Raul's to trigger.

Now, on topic... I can sense that my orc game is not long for this world.  I just can't play her now that there are legion idiots running around Windhelm.  Brunwulf, he's a nice guy, but when he's talking about building up stone and metal to rebuild the Grey Quarter, all I can think is- that'll just make a nicer graveyard when the Dominion comes to call.

So, now I'm going to play my Nord male finally.  Though I'm skeptical about my ability to make a decent looking male character.

And to think that I've yet to step foot in Markarth or riften. Trying to fast travel to either one it tells me I've not discovered them yet.

You do know that you can use the carriage to travel to those cities?

Yes but what fun is that when I have everything else open all around them two cities? Just haven't had the need to go to them yet.<G>

You can do it! I hope you'll post photos, so we can see how he turned out! Image IPB

My Nord male kept looking like Sean Bean.
It got weird after a while.

I did not want to do that since I would die a lot then.

For those of you who are looking for a witty line to tell someone you're infatuated with come Valentine's Day, IF they like Skyrim, throw this at them-

Imperials are red,

Stormcloaks are blue,

I've got an Amulet of Mara,

I'm interested, are you?

DOHOHOHOHOHO

*be prepared to be Fus Ro Dah'd off a cliff*

Told this to my girlfriend and she said she'd only Fus Ro me for that.

So no tumbling off a cliff for me! WOOT.

And no arrow to the knee either? Impressive.

That joke is SO played out, I'm glad she didn't say it.

That's... an interesting look, but not quite what I have in mind.

Although if I do model him after the story character I'm thinking of, he's supposed to be tall and lanky with white hair. I think that'll probably end up by the wayside. The burly guys are just too hot.

Sean Bean wouldn't be bad.  Image IPB

^ Well, that was a nice blanket statement, but not an entirely accurate one. We don't all share that viewpoint. I suppose it didn't need to be said, but alas, I couldn't help myself.

@Addai, I agree! I loves me some Sean Bean, too! Loved him in Game of Thrones...
I just had a mental image of Ma'iq the Liar commenting on his propensity to die. Image IPB

You know I just cant use companions anymore.

I mean they just dont have an combat ability anywhere NEAR the PC so they kind of are useless.
At level 45, Aela can take maybe ONE opponent on, but nothing more than that.

I kind of miss playing FONV where the companions could and did kick some serious ass.
Seeing Boone head shot three dudes right in a row
always made me smile.

And just a little more off topic:

Agreed.  Boone was so good, it would occasionally annoy me...as I would find myself uttering 'kill stealer' under my breath.  Seriously, he could be a ball hog sometimes.  BUT, there simply was no substitute for Boone.  Once I finallly got a .50 cal Anti-materiel Rifle in his hands, he was a one man wrecking crew.  Caesar's fate was inevitable, once he and I crossed the CO River, both armed with .50 cals and ammunition up the wazzoo.  Boone is easily the most combat effective NPC in any game...well, Fawkes does run a very close second.

On topic:  My game is really starting to bug out, a lot; since I finished the main quest and ticked over 400 hours.  For example, Shield Charge won't work anymore.  I can play around it of course, but alot of the fun of combat engagements has been taken out...for me.  Don't know what's up.

Anyone who's gotten the high res pack, let us know how it's working out for you.

I'm skeptical that even our brand new PC can handle it. There is already something wonky with the video card, it derps every once in a while and we get a "driver error" even though we have the latest driver version. I'm tempted to try, but on the forums they're saying the only way to uninstall it is to re-install the game.  (oh, I read further on and others are saying they are just new BSAs whose .esp's can be de-activated like any mod... this is sooo tempting...)

I'm curious, what is your graphics card?

I installed the pack and haven't taken a performance hit.  Though, I already have several high resolution mods installed so I can't really tell if Bethesda's pack makes a difference.  LoL.

I'm thinking of holding off on the high res pack until the modders have adjusted their mods to work with it. I already have a bunch of texture mods installed I doubt what Bethesda releases will be worth the headache of moving around files and reinstalling mods.

Got a question for you folks:

Have any of you had your housecarls -- or even just followers in general -- disappear? I've been taking the Markarth housecarl with me a lot lately since he's a pretty good warrior, and he just.... vanished a little while ago.

Thing is, I never told him to wait anywhere so I can rule out that. He was with me in Riften as I went to buy some arms and armor, and then as soon as I fast traveled he was gone.

Now, in my foolishness I didn't notice this until after I had saved my game.

So yea, he wasn't told to wait anywhere but now he's gone from the world, and using the wait/sleep command hasn't solved this nor has fast traveling.

EDIT: He just showed up back at my house. You know, I'm beginning to think this thread is magical. Every time I post my problems here, I find my problems solve themselves.

Well, all except for the PS3 lag. That has yet to be fixed for me, as removing and disabling autosaves didn't help much.

I found it really easy to do from the default. I just gave mine a few different features and I had a good looking Nord that I now nickname Duncan Jesus.

The most notable ones being his tan/dark skin and his darker hair and fairly prominent beard.

That's exactly what my Nordic Warrior looks like.  Image IPB.

I'll have to check later but it is Nvidia GeForce... don't remember the model.

I only have Nightingale Prime and a mod for long-distance scenery which I never noticed any difference from.  Oh, and No More Blocky Faces which I also never noticed a difference from.  Heh.  Apparently I just don't see in much detail.

@ Mechu- Well don't judge everyone by my taste.  But yeah, if you're comparing "western" to an anime look where everyone looks female and waifish with flowing hair, I definitely prefer the more muscley men.

Sweet merciful crap!  I'm installing the High  Resolution Texture pack right now.  And Steam is telling me that I'll be ready to play in 1hr and 58min.

How big is this pack anyway? 20 gigs?

Any word on whether this hi-res texture pack will be released for 360 and PS3 or not?

On the forum they were saying it's 3 Gig but the whole game itself was 5 Gig.  lol  Textures apparently take up a lot of room.  I think the long download is because all the Skyrim players are melting Steam's servers.  That's what Pete Hines tweeted this afternoon.

Our video card is Nvidia GeForce GTS250... not sure it will work for us, actually.  That is below their recommended.  But I'm gonna try.

Hmmm...yeah, a GTS 250 is pretty long in the tooth as far as gaming goes. Even when it came out a couple years ago it is basically a rebadged 9800gtx. Just about any new card , even cheaper ones, on the market now will perform tons better than a GTS 250.

That said, I've been reading that the high res texture pack doesn't have that much of a performance hit. Haven't tried it myself yet though.
