We just bought it new- obviously the man did not do enough research. Of course I can blame it on him since I left the purchase up to him. lol

Pack is downloading now, we'll see how it goes.

Our video card is Nvidia GeForce GTS250... not sure it will work for us, actually.  That is below their recommended.  But I'm gonna try.

Runs perfectly fine on my GTX260 SLi set-up, I didn't register any noticeable performance hit. Also if you're worried about the high res textures screwing up modded ones just extract the whole kit and kaboodle with a BSA browser and install the files manually while deleting the .esp plugins.

That said, I've been reading that the high res texture pack doesn't have that much of a performance hit. Haven't tried it myself yet though.

I've never taken a performance hit from any hi res texture pack for any game I've ever played.

And for that matter, from what I've read, this particular hi resolution texture pack isn't  some massive game-changer anyway.  It makes weapons and clothes look a bit sharper when you zoom in, and people are reporting that wood  (chopping blocks, floors in homes, tree trunks etc). just look a little better.  And that's all.

But it's *free*.  Can't argue with Free.  Free is good.

It looks really good! I do notice some stutter. Might end up disabling it because of that. With the extra detail and some jerkiness, it makes for eye strain. I definitely notice the difference, though.

I notice differences in more than just clothing and wood.  All surfaces, and even combat animations, look sharper.  Everything looks more detailed.  There's more color contrast.

You'd be suprised how many people did just that. Still hope they release it as an update for the 360.

So Bethesda is actually releasing a tutorial on the Creation Kit? That is awesome. And a very, very smart recruiting tool. CDPR, take note. Get that blasted toolkit out NOW.

I really hope CDPR's modkit is as good. Djinni modders were only able to work with the stuff already ingame I believe which really limited what players would create. Hopefully this gives CDPR some ideas.

Wow everything looks so pretty! I think I have to keep this, despite a little stutter and some purple wood. It feels like this was how the game was meant to be played, on PC at least.

Not sure if it will show on a screenshot, but the details on the armor are clearer, the greens are sharper, and the landscape more distinct.

I'm not noticing much of a difference at all in my game. And I'm questioning what little I do notice as possoibly being  a placebo effect.

Edit:    The various Mushrooms on the ground look better  (white caps, blisterwarts, imp stools)  Much better actually.

Did you have high res mods installed already? It's very noticeable to me.

I don't, no. But What Settings are you playing at? Because the lower your resolution, the bigger the difference you're going to see, I imagine.

I'm playing on mostly ultra, with my screen resolution at   1920x1080.

I'm on the same settings as Yrkoon and didn't notice much difference. Although clothing and mage robes look better.

Any word on whether this hi-res texture pack will be released for 360 and PS3 or not?

I doubt it. I've never heard of consoles getting high res textures due to their hardware being outdated.

I found it really easy to do from the default. I just gave mine a few different features and I had a good looking Nord that I now nickname Duncan Jesus.

I just recently started a Nord male too. RP him being from Imperial City however so the spellsword build makes a little more sense. They're not too hard to make look decent. Imperials are the ugliest males so far to me their nose options are as bad as Mass Effect lol.

I'll have to admit that is one of the reason's for which I got into building my own systems years ago. That way I could put in what I wanted and leave out what I didn't want to be in it or installed on the HD. Last build was 2 years or so ago and it's still runs everything that comes out.<LOL>

All-
As for the Texture pack will have to admit looks pretty good cept for the fact that the stuttering is back again.  I did subscribe to a few mods as well before I went to bed I'm going to try out.

As for a console wouldn't own one.<G>

I'm playing a Female Nord currently and will have to admit that she didn't turn out to bad If I do say so myself.<G> She's at about Level 40 right now and has yet to go to Riften or Markarth. Want to join the Storm Cloaks this time through Curious if they did in fact fix the house in Windhelm where it isn't still messy after you purchase it like it was in previous play throughs. Hopefully in the next patch they will fix the stuttering of Npc's caused by the texture pack and fix the Waking Nightmares quest as well.

I give a big thumbs up to Bethesda and Valve right now.

The Steam Workshop is utterly amazing.
A company made a mod manager, that is simple, easy to use, updates itself, and brings together its communities.

See EA? That is why people love Bethesda and Valve.

Have to agree!

I am not great with Computers...I can do maintainance and handle most common problems, but there have been times in the past when I simply could not get Mods for Games installed properly and just gave up.

The Steam Workshop is such a great idea...being able to get Mods in one reliable place is going to be awsome!

The creation kit looks good. :) Chances are that it is going to steal a lot of my spare time. Already have some ideas. :)

I couldn't agree with you more on this here. I've alreald subscribed to several mods for which I'm going to try out. One being the Dovikiin Hideout; as for a couple of others that looked good.

Love the fact that you can go to one spot subscribe and everything else is taken care of for you including updates as they are done. Allows for more playing of the game instead of trying to figure out if mods are going to play nicely together with just a few clicks. Now un/re installing of mods.

This is why Bethesda has my loyalty right now.

They actually treat their customers....like CUSTOMERS.
There are no real DRM besides Steam and now the Workshop which is part of it.

When companies like Ubisoft call PC gamers pirates, Bethesda celebrates its customers and treats us with actual respect.

End of the day that goes a hell of a lot farther than most things in this business.
When the first DLC comes out I am buying it day one.

I couldn't agree with you more on this here. I for one am and have been looking forward to a DLC and hope thats in the works currently. As well as a patch to clear up the  NPC stuttering as well as to fix the broken Waking nightmares quest.

^ You know, I had a lukewarm opinion of Bethesda while I was playing Fallout 3 and Oblivion on PS3 (lock-up HELL), but since I've been playing Skyrim on 360, it's been great. There's an occasional lock-up, but it's around once every 50 hours, whereas with the ones I mentioned on PS3, it locked up at least once, every time I played. (Granted, I know it's been years since they came out, but the lock-ups are still a painful memory).

I'm still absolutely taken with this whole Skyrim experience. Image IPB

My purse will be open to their DLC.

Well now if I'm not mistaken, and I might be since I don't follow or use the console games doesn't the PS3 only have about 250megs of ram? To me this wouldn't be the greatest set up to run an open world game like one of the ES games.

I couldn't agree with you more. BioWare mumbles about rights and impossibility. Beth and Valve just make it work. :)

Even if it is another "horse armor", I am going to buy it. :P
