I havent noticed any stuttering at all since installing the Hi-res pack. Have to say as well that in 400 play hours i havent crashed once either been really impressed by the stability and quality that was produced.
Btw if you dont have the Midas Magic mod get it now, same modder who did the Oblivion mod, 60 new spells and using Meteor shower to raise Solitude to the ground = fun.
*crawls back in cave to play Skyrim.*

They actually treat their customers....like CUSTOMERS.
There are no real DRM besides Steam and now the Workshop which is part of it.
When companies like Ubisoft call PC gamers pirates, Bethesda celebrates its customers and treats us with actual respect.
End of the day that goes a hell of a lot farther than most things in this business.
When the first DLC comes out I am buying it day one.
Agree to disagree.
Skyrim install was one of the worst experiences; could have been much worse if I had tried to do so w/o hints & tips from here. Steam's auto-patch can be intrusive; perhaps problematic based on the first patch which caused some glitches.
Good to see some goodies for the Mod community, but overall does not apply to me; do not Mod myself, and do not use many of them as they can cause glitches with official fixes. But if all this makes folks here happy, could be a good thing.
Personally, I would like to drop Steam completely, and simply connect if and when I require their services. And honestly, I have no plans for Origin either; prefer to remain insulated from the maddening crowds.

About your last paragraph. You don't need to connect to Steam to play the game. Just switch to offline mode. You can also specify if you want Steam to update Skyrim automatically or not. What happened with that faulty update is not the rule, but the exception, though. I have dozens of games on Steam and I love that they auto-update. It rarely goes wrong.Elhanan wrote...

LOL You watch too many cheesy movies. I have plenty of art at my blog of sexy "Nord" males. It's a... hobby interest, you might say.virumor wrote...

I was pretty impressed when I glanced through the Steam Workshop. I hadn't expected it to take off so soon.Giggles_Manically wrote...
I give a big thumbs up to Bethesda and Valve right now.
The Steam Workshop is utterly amazing.
A company made a mod manager, that is simple, easy to use, updates itself, and brings together its communities.
See EA? That is why people love Bethesda and Valve.

I know; discovered by trials since release.
As for update, I was fine; was others that were complaining, and read of their problems here. I simply prefer to apply fixes when I wish, so will look into this switch. Thanks!
But I do not care for the ads, error messages, etc that await my eyes when I close my game. And I do not plan on downloading games from any site again if it can be avoided; much prefer hard copies. Simply not a fan of Steam or any like provider.

I was a late adopter of Steam and didn't like it at first, but they've really won me over. Like Giggles said, they don't d*** around like EA and Ubisoft trying to get as much out of you as they can while giving horrible service in return. And gods almighty, it's 200% better than Games for Windows Live.
I'm excited for DLC, but the idea of a new Fallout game is what really stokes my inner nerd. I hope they announce soon.

Now if your referring to the original first install of the Skyrim game then you'd be the first that I'vew heard of whether it be on console or pc that had a problem installing the game.
As for the mods I don't make them but if I see one the catches my eye I'll subscribe and check it out. If I like it I'll continue to use it if I don't I just unsubscribe and steam gets rid of it. Or at least thats what I think is suppose to happen.
As for Steam I'll have to admit that I was reluctant when I first found out that you had to have a Steam account for the game. But I've yet to have any problems with the site. most of the time I forget it's even there till someone messages me.<G>

I couldn't agree with you more on this here. Heck I even subscribed to about a 1/2 dozen or so mods that were already up there. I've got a feelling were going to see lots more in the days and weeks to come.
Of course I seen some I wouldn't even waste time with clicking the subscribe button. I.e. one that puts eyebrows on the dogs, one that puts a top hat and monicle on the crabs. There was another one that made a vendor that sells nothing but gems and one that gives you a spell for creating more gold.
Now I don't know about the rest of you but I've got enough gems, gold and ingots that I surely don't need a mod that can give me more. Heck I've stopped taking most stuff off my kills. Only thing I take is Ebony weapons and aromor, gems and gold. I dont waste my time with the rest of the stuff. In the beginning I take all that I can carry.<G>

It collects all my games into one single and easy to use manager.
It auto-updates all of them for free.
It has all my friends in one place, to talk to and game with.
It has a built in screen shot folder I can use, and look at IN GAME FOR FREE.
Now its adding mods to the list of things it can do, with a simple and easy to use mod manager.
That is pretty much 100% win right there for me.

^ You know, I had a lukewarm opinion of Bethesda while I was playing Fallout 3 and Oblivion on PS3 (lock-up HELL), but since I've been playing Skyrim on 360, it's been great. There's an occasional lock-up, but it's around once every 50 hours, whereas with the ones I mentioned on PS3, it locked up at least once, every time I played. (Granted, I know it's been years since they came out, but the lock-ups are still a painful memory).
I'm still absolutely taken with this whole Skyrim experience.
My purse will be open to their DLC.
I have a continuous playthrough on my 360 of 427 hours as of right now, and in that time I've had exactly two lock-ups. For a game this big, I think that's amazing. I will say though that as of late, a number of buggy things have been creeping in (I have yet to delete a single save though-and I'm at 840), but what the heck, nothing really game breaking as of yet. Am currently transitioning to a PC playthrough since I've recently downloaded it from Steam...just in time for the CK and HRT pack!!!!!!!!!!! Can you say MODs and SCREENSHOTs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too am utterly taken with Skyrim. Bethesda (and yes, Valve) is demonstrating, very successfully I might add, that the industry's obsession with DRM and restricting and controlling the player experience, is probably not the right way to go. Just my opinion of course...but certainly I'm in good company holding it.

Looking through the Steam Workshop mods, there are some lulzy ones. Dwarf companion mod- "not really a dwarf, more like a small Nord." LOL And one that adds a Dwemer Spider companion named Skittles. I loved when you had a spider follower for part of the Thieves' Guild dungeon.

If one goes back to the posts from 11-11-11 onward, they may note a few notices that installation seemed to require a substantial length of time; disks in hand or not. Thanks to notes from Yrkoon and others, I managed to get the game installed in 30 min; not the 4.5 hrs as notified. Needless to say, my initial greeting to Steam was not a pleasant one.
Guess I dislike these kinds of intrusion sites overall; much prefer hard copies. And some of what folks are calling plusses, I consider negatives.

Definitely getting the Craftable Arrows mod (something that should have been in the main game in the first place). And perhaps the Bigger Breezehome mod.

It would also save being tempted by their incredible deals. Morrowind and Oblivion GOTY are both 9.99 right now, and Skyrim is also on sale for 39.99.

Before you go with the bigger Breeze home might I suggest the Dovokiin hideout?<G> Check that thing out fo the ultimate in places.<G>

30 minute install time? Heck I was home @ 1220 after picking up the game at the local game stop and by 1230 I had the game installed and was starting my first play through. I don't think that was to bad at all.

AFAIK skyrimphotographer uses actual screenshots and only adds certain photographic effects, but not photoshopping.virumor wrote...
Are there actual facial animations in Skyrim or is this pic shopped?
Sure there are facial animations. Farkas and Vilkas both scowl at you at first, but later start to smile more as you go through the Companion quest lines.

Modded to clean his face, but not photoshopped.
It's similar to Oblivion when you would do the speech minigame.

The Space Core mod is called VOLUME 1.
I would put money down for Wheatley arriving next.
Good money too.

It's a nice detail, then. That "sadface" animation must've been made specifically for Kodlak Whitemane's funeral.Addai67 wrote...
