Well they only show the Dwemer having those huge crossbow/ spear thrower things.

Who needs firearms when you have magic? That would be a step backward. Early firearms were crap.

edit- Y'all may have heard, Skyrim did quite well at the AIA awards last night.  GOTY, Game Direction, Best RPG and Achievement in Story

They weren't even nominated for Best Original Score, which is odd.  They got beat out by some game I've never heard of for Innovation in Gaming.

Why in the world would you need stuff like that in a game like Skyrim for? Besides that them things didn't exist in Medieval times.

Well guns could make things easier. Gunpowder was invented in the 9th century, the Chinese already use firearms during the 12th century. Rapid fire crossbows, gun powder, rockets, cannons and firearms, and land mines, just to name a few military inventions they came up with.

The Europeans, Arabs and Koreans obtained firearms in the 14th century. The Turks, Iranians and Indians all had firearms no later than the 15th century in each case directly or indirectly from the Europeans.

I'm surprised Bastion didn't win music and innovation. Skyrim and Uncharted cleaned house if IIRC.

The magic in Tamriel can warp whole civilizations into another dimension.  The largest early medieval cannon is a pea shooter compared to one well trained battle mage.

Well if you want a game with stuff like that in it there are plenty of them out there for you to chose from go and play them to your hearts content. As for me the reason for which I play games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, The Witcher 1 and 2 etc is because they don't have gun cannons, and stuff in them. I don't like games like that here and I won't play them.

Yes they did. Can't figure out how Batman Arkham city or Star Wars Old Republic won anything. Everyone I talked to that bought them to games said they sucked big time.

I dunno I've never used it. The tools I use are

Fraps -- records the footage
VirtualDub -- combines the footage
x264vfw encoder --compresses the footage in Virtualdub, under video
Audacity -- if I want to edit sounds (add music/mute parts/etc)

This video is pretty much the same process I go through, he uses a different encoder though, and I only have one harddrive.

Well now from what I have gathered that its more trouble then it's worth if you've got to use 3 or 4 diffferent programs just to record a short video.

Image IPB LOL Of course! Magic vs guns is a total no-no. Yeah they are like firecrackers but works well with the axes and swords.

No dude, not like that. I like ancient/medieval stuff too. I'm just stating my opinion on early firearms. They're kinda helpful instead of just swords.

Morthal would probably be your best bet as there is a lair directly NE of town, and the town's main questline puts you in direct confrontation with multiple blood-suckers.

Early firearms had less firepower than medieval longbows.  They were only effective at all because European leaders were authoritarian enough to keep armies full of unarmored cannon fodder rather than knights or mercenaries who maintained their own armor but expected some deference in return.

The advantage a gun has is that it can deliver many times the kinetic energy that any bow can.
Since force equals mass TIMES acceleration a bullet can do huge amounts of damage.

However magic trumps guns since it fires faster, and does the same amount of damage.
A musket can fire MAYBE twice in a minute.

A good mage can hurl a fire ball from each hand that does area damage, lights things on fire, and can hurl one every couple of seconds.

Sadly in Tamriel technology does not move on since magic is so utterly easy.
Why build a bridge when a mage can just INSTANTLY teleport you?

It took massed gun fire to be effective in combat, and I would not trust my life to a musket.

early on? There a cave along the road from Helgen to Ivarstead (can't miss it, it's just beside the road.)
There's also Bloodlet Tower, it's back along the road you came down in the intro scene on the wagon (near a dragon nest, but early on there'll be no dragon)

@giggles...
I hope we're talking comparative early guns and magic.. cause if it's a fight between a modernday soldier and a mage my money's on the soldier.

I would dispute that for early firearms.  They were adopted because you didn't need to train men to use them like you did for a good longbowman or arbalist, and they got the job done which was at least to wound the man who would then almost certainly die of infection.

Anyway, point being that magic makes explosive technology irrelevant.  And most other technology, too.

I am referring to guns up until the 19th century yes.

A modern gun is pretty much the penultimate weapon of war.
Modern gun would spell the end of any mage that it encountered.

But muskets would be more a hindrance then a help in Skyrim unless you had 30 buddies backing you up.

Doing Hircine's quest after being healed of lycanthropy is an interesting conundrum. I sympathize with Sinding, but his description of needing to "hunt" the little girl is horrific and makes you doubt he really could control it. It would have been good if Hircine commented on you being a werewolf or being "one that got away."

I really doubt that Hircine cares about someone getting/removing the curse since:
A) being immortal he has nothing but time
B) He probably has a lot already and does not need more.

But yeah I really dont sympathize with Sinding.
The entire circle can control themselves and dont run around commiting murder.

If you cant trust yourself dont be near people. Or just off yourself so you cant hurt others.
But no he was weak and murdered a little girl.

But as horrible as that is...condemning him to an ETERNITY of being a hound dog for Hircine really is kind of harsh.
If it was just killing him I would do it, but what with his soul and all going to Hircine it made me think for a bit,

I do like how Hircine is very impressed if you turn the hunt inside out and beat all the hunters though. Probably one of the few Daedra who does not throw a hissy fit if you dont do exactly what they want.

Like say killing his servants and raiding his shrine. Problem Dagon? :P

1) Bloodlet Throne
2) Broken Fang Cave
3) Haemar's Shame
4) Mara's Eye Den
5) Movarth's Lair
6) Pinemoon Cave
7) Potema's Catacombs
8) Shriekwind Bastion (north and south)

Also, you'll occasionally   come across a vampire or two randomly  roaming the countryside at night.

Hand-held firearms could not match the firepower of an English longbow until the late 18th century.

They were only used bc/ you could train an illiterate peasant to fire one effectively in less than a week whereas it took years to train a longbowmen.

Here's a list of mods I'm using atm. I'm trying to have nothing overly powerful or lore breaking. And nothing that'll strain my computer too bad (It's not the most top-end system)

Weapons of the 3rd Era
Dagger Craft Daggers
Arrow Smithing

Barbarian Armour
Lore Friendly Armor
Psijic Mage Outfit (craftable)
Barmaid Outfit Amulet fix

I dunno man.  Daedra can take these things very personally.  I guess you didn't take an oath like you do with Nocturnal, but look at Azura and her whole "you cross me, I'm going to curse your entire race" thing.

But yeah I really dont sympathize with Sinding.

The circle seemed a bit naive to me.  Especially Aela.  Although I guess Kodlak had had the beast blood for a long time and hadn't "lost himself," as Aela put it.  I guess these are stronger personalities to begin with whereas Sinding might have just been some milk drinker who got the disease.

These are ones I also use.

In addition:  Archmage Crafting (lets you craft archmage robes and lots of different mage robes and equipment), More Craftables, one that adds recipes to cooking, reduces weight of potions and dragon scales/ bones, and increased jump distance.

Soldier Fem Plus (Mjoll, Jenassa & Female Vigilant's of Stendarr now have feminine stances [arms close while walking]. Gotta see how sharpes housecarls changes lydia, iona etc do know if I have to mod it too)

Not meaning to pick on you but why do people care about this?  Some women do walk in a more "masculine" way.

for real life I don't care, but the way it's shown in-game it's just looks dikky to me (like OVER-emphasized)
the above being said the arms-in-close is also overdone, but I consider it the best of a bad situation

Edit to add:
Also you should try Jaysus swords, they look great (imo) and aren't OP, also they've got Argonian & Khaji'it weapons
