I made my Dunmer nightblade.  Had to resort to the Younger Looking Males mod, but I'm satisfied with the result.

He already feels quite badass.  I think he'd probably like to bed that fiery wench Irileth but will end up with Jenassa.  At least one of my characters should make cute elf babies someday.  Or scary looking elf babies, as the case may be.

Great job on the Dunmer! He looks way better than any of my attempts ever did. I haven't tried creating a male of any race, though.

Jenassa's a great choice. Love her! Image IPB

I never wanted to fight or anger Aranea, as I wanted to try her out as a follower, so I never went the black star route. How does that shake out?

Has Calcemo (In Markarth) ever sent anyone a note asking for dwarven armor... this happened and he wanted my boots. I gave them to him expecting a bunch of gold but i only got like 100.... i was quite disappointed

I believe there are options to use Persuasion or like methods to increase the offer sum, though I have never opted for them myself. And since there does not seem to be any time limit, this is often done much later at my convienience when the item is of little practical value any longer.

Nelacar does the cleansing ritual, and you lose Aranea as a follower.  It's a lot of trust in an Altmer mage who's always talking about "slight miscalculations."  However the Black Star is much more useful since, contrary to Nelacar's dialogue, it can trap white as well as black souls.

I didnt take that route since Azura does not just make the PERSON who offended her pay...but their entire extended family and or race.

Basically, you soul trap Aranea to spite Azura even more.

I guess she would say she was just allowing the Chimer to experience the natural consequences of their arrogance.  And she warned her pets about the disaster, which is all Aranea cares about.  Meanwhile I guess Vivec believed if he couldn't have the Chimer's worship, no one would.  The gods are such spoiled children.  It makes Talos look all the more heroic for not being completely self-absorbed.

Are you serious? That's terrible! Image IPB

Funny how that bothers me, but I was ok with cannibalizing a priest for Namira. Image IPB

Sorry to call BS on that...but that is BS.
You dont do anything different on the Black Star route than the White Star route.

Only difference is who sends you into the star.

I wonder if a soul stays aware of its surroundings when it gets used on an item?
That would seriously be creepy since my mage made some gear out of the Dark Brotherhood using that......

The Divines are about the only nice Gods in the entire setting.
Maybe Shor/Lorkhan as well.

But the Daedra are not nice at all.
Which is why tweaking their noses in it is oh so fun.

How often does a game give you the chance to:

To like HALF a pantheon?

I think she was talking about soul trapping her priestess with it.  That's a little bit heavier a dose of "up yours" than just cutting Azura off from her artifact.

The gods envying mortals for their mortality is a theme of a lot of mythology.  I have to think that's part of their fixation on their artifacts.  It's through those they get to control mortals and screw them over.  Though to be fair, they're using people's own greed to do it, and the daedra themselves are a reflection of baser mortal characteristics.

The novel isn't really canon, but at one point Annaig feels guilty about processing soul essences into culinary delights, and wonders if the souls are still conscious.  The chef in Umbriel assures her that they've been "purified."  So, whatever that means.  Probably nothing since I wouldn't take Keyes as an official source.

edit- The fact that you're still conscious and aware when Aranea or Nelacar sends you into Azura's Star probably means they are conscious.  Nelacar describes what he's doing as soul trapping you.

You know I have a friend who is deeply concerned about that and refuses to use enchanted items ever.
I dont care since its just a game, but it disturbs him a bit and he only ever uses un-enchanted gear.

Makes the game harder? Yes.
But I kind of agree that thinking about...people's souls being worn on you and aware is kind of creepy.

According to most of the discussions regarding the ethics of soul trapping on Bethsofts forums, you're only taking the life energy and not the soul itself when you enchant an item. Considering the lack of lore on soul gems and evidence from previous games refuting that particular argument, I think people tell themselves that to sleep better at night. Now I'm off to condemn a bandit to an eternity as a pair of boots...

The Tribunal were the best thing to happen to the Dunmer. The problem with Azura is that she's always been a clingy, possessive and manipulative hellion. The Dunmer were complete weirdos with their ancestor worship, the Tribunal made them civilized.

Yep, "civilized"... HERESY! PURGE THE UNCLEAN!
Though, the imperial and tribunal traditions the Dunmer had adopted are far better than the Ashlander ones.

Considering that the Tribunal were an oppressive theocracy I dont really call that much of an improvement.

They imprison and execute anyone who talked against them.
One went insane and tried MURDERING the PC after attacking her city.
They also failed against Dagoth Ur badly.

Not exactly an improvement.

Don't all the Mer worship their ancestors? And the Talos cult is basically ancestor worship.

With the orcs I think it might be justified.

The reason why the Tribunal Temple cracked down on dissenters was to keep faith in Almsivi strong, because Almsivi had lost a lot of their power with the loss of access to the Heart Chamber; the faith of their followers was all they had left to keep up the Ghostfence in the end.

Vivec is also quite penitent about it when you meet him (Almalexia is obviously completely out of touch with reality when you meet her, if not mad as a hatter).

What I remember from Talos Cult are the nutters in Morrowind that wanted to assassinate Uriel Septim VII.

Ancestor worship in Morrowind was basically glorified necromancy (read "Ancestors and the Dunmer" book). Altmer were either followers of Auri-El or Daedra worshippers, Bosmer had Y'ffre and the Green Pact. Ayleids were Daedra worshippers too.

Glad I'm not the only person who is disturbed by the concept of soul-stealing. It always bothered me whenever I play Skyrim and my Warlock in WoW.
Taking a soul is far worse than merely killing someone, I admit, even as a Warlock. Which is why my character only take the souls of the non-sentient (Mammoth's) and truely wicked. He does not want to go to his dark, bloodlusted past.
Really, it's just the way you look at it.

Mammoths aren't non-sentient. o_O I pity the existence of the Falmer a lot more than them, so I soul trap Falmer, necromancers, Thalmor, and mudcrabs. I know, the poor mudcrabs.

Since we are on this philosophical discussion, this is basically the Thalmor's argument for why they have a right to wipe out the mortal world- because they've been soul trapped to Mundus.

I think it's canon, since Ysolda tells you that the tree in Sleeping Tree camp possibly comes from Umbriel.

And the Thalmor. Specifically the Justiciars. I have no sympathy for them.

DL'd the "More NPCs in the Wild" Mod. Just walking around, I am in combat about every one to two minutes, when coupling normal encounters with Mod generated spawn encounters. I recommend it if you're looking to level specific combat skills, not to mention there is a $#!+load of loot. But you will be fighting much more than normal.

If you find it monotonous trekking through the wild from place to place, then this is the mod for you. It definitely will keep you from being bored. Some encounters are non-combative with just Hunters stalking game, or Imperials or Stormcloaks out patrolling (in the middle of nowhere), but they are the exception from what I've seen thus far. There is a "Many More NPCs in the Wild" Mod, but honestly, that would put a serious dent in the fun of exploration for me.

Call me callous, but I'm not the least bit disturbed by soul trapping. I mean sure, it would be cool if my character had the ability to warn bandits and other enemies that their continued attempts to kill me would likely result in their souls being stolen and used for my personal enchanting whims,  And then let them decide their own fates.   But I doubt such a warning would deter them, even as they see a bright glowing Battleaxe coming towards their throats.

Oh well. I guess life's biggest lessons have to be learned the hard way.

And what about Dragons?   As a Dovakiin, you absorb their souls as a matter of instinct.  Is that not equally bad?  I guess not, since dragons are  Evil and usually try to kill you on sight, unlike, say,  Vampires or Bandits.  Right?

Being on 360, I won't be downloading fan mods or anything, but I have enough fun traveling in the game already.

Hell, the other day I went from that Orc stronghold(involved in one of the Daedric Quests) by Riften, all the way to Solitude, on foot.

Walking.
