That comic's quite chuckle-worthy. It is a bit silly that the game shows you that there's nothing in containers, but I suppose most rpgs do that in some way, whether it's with an empty tag or a glowing sparkle around loot chests.

Sometimes I end up opening empty containers when I'm not paying proper attention though, so I rp that as my character actually not knowing there's anything worthwhile inside and searching.

Looks like that Ulfric mod will be perfect for my female Nord Stormcloak, have to check that out. I've been mucking about with the creation kit myself, trying to learn how to use it with the tutorials and what not. It's quite fun that even someone as inept as myself can use it to do things. I always remember trying to use the toolset from NWN and only ever being able to make a village where you could go inside the buildings but the npcs just stood around doing and saying nothing. Whereas here I was able to add a working merchant to the game, even got him walking to the Inn and hanging out there until time for him to head back to work.

The many uses of Njada Stonearm

I love how she remains sassy even after you become Harbinger.

Our own phaonica has made a mod that lets you marry Ulfric and have him as follower.

You know I had to test it- for science!  I posted some shots at my blog.  It's not voiced obviously.

He's so much fun as follower.  Does his thu'um and everything, and he has funny taunts.  Add in the More NPCs mod and much hilarity ensues.  I might never stop playing Skyrim.

Awww, your character got to marry Ulfric. Hooray! Image IPB

Korrin's taken a break while
1) distant cousin Kyra begins to explore Amalur
2) I decide whether to continue from 158 hours after completing the civil war (but missing out on the blood on the ice quest) or 57 hours having just completed blood on the ice (and maybe replay some things differently for anything else I missed

It took you 158 hours to do the civil war? I finished that in like 30-35 hours.

Personally, I now get the Civil War done before the Main Quest, though not always early. This helps give me the feeling that the Dragonborn has some prestige, and is not just some lickspittle. But occasionally waiting until later in the game for the War gives some purpose to use several of those three-word Shouts, major spells, expertly crafted weapons. etc.

Oh, that's badass. I'll have to see if that works for my custom follower.

that is pretty cool. Be cool if someone made a mod for them to ride on your horse with you.

That was much needed.

If someone does a mounted combat mod, the spouse might actually go back to Skyrim. He's been really into Mount and Blade of late.

Saw on Bethsoft forum that someone spied a patent application for Zenimax Media for a software product called Dawnbreakers. Speculation is that this is a DLC. I was wondering if it could have something to do with the Khajiit and/or Thalmor, since in The Great War it says the Thalmor claimed to have used hitherto unknown "Dawn Magicks" to restore the moons.

Just discovered this today but found it funny. So I sided with the Stormcloaks and had my PC go through the whole Civil War questline. I'm clearing out some of the miscellaneous quests and after killing a dragon go to find the person in Solitude to get the reward.

So I get to the Blue Palace and the quest marker is leading me to the basement. So I get down there and every single deposed Jarl and Housecarl is sleeping/standing around/eating in the basement of the Blue Palace. LOL And they're all badmouthing me for being such a rotten person. And they actually have dialogue about being driven from their homes and so forth. Thats just such an awesome little detail!

The blacksmith in Winterhold does that too when you side with the Imperials. And the absentee court hold up in their throne room. But it is easier to take all the insults when the corpse of Ulfric still lies at the base of the dias.

And I finally saw/ heard Ulfric Shout! He launched General Tullius across the room, but was winded by the time the Dragonborn got into the fray. Good to see this part of the backstory finally!

I've got Ulfric as follower now so I can confirm he definitely shouts- a lot. lol

Balgruuf's insults still hurt, and so did Irileth's and Idgrod's. I like them, they just chose the wrong side. Although Balgruuf repeating that he'll see Ulfric's head on a pike doesn't seem like the healthiest course for him. Unfortunately the very Nord stubbornness that I like about him and Rikke prevent them from knuckling under for their own interests.

I'm about to start a new playthrough. And I have NO IDEA what I want to play.

So far I've done:

1) an in-your-face Orc warrior
2) a Range/melee Nord Hybrid
3) a Jack of all trades Dunmer

I do know that I don't want to play a pure mage type. My Dunmer did a lot of magic, but was constantly falling back to his bow and his sword because magic just isn't all its cracked up to be. I am contemplating a pure stealthy rogue type, but my Nord did that part time, and I kinda wanna try something else.

I think I'll just do another Nord and see where the whim takes me. I actually haven't ever tried a Dagger playthrough yet. Maybe I'll do that.

I think you misunderstand
That's 158 hours from the beginning of the game including the companions quest chain, the college quest chain (up to becoming Archmage) and the thieve's guild chain (up to becoming head of Riften group but not yet started rebuilding the guild) and lots of other quests so I was probably about 130 hours in before starting the civil war

I'm currently playing Skyrim and I'm loving the game. But, there's one problem I have with Skyrim: there are quests that ask me to join certain groups like the Companions, Storm Cloak, Imperial Legion, etc, groups that the game haven't told me who they are, what they stand for, why should I join them. Also, there's that rebellion and I'm lost why it happened.

I really want to know if the game will give me more information about those topics or if I will have to search on the internet about them.

Skyrim is my first TES game, by the way.

Because of the perceived challenge, I  believe you would enjoy a try at a Mage. And personally, there ain't nothing wrong with adding Stealth and Archer to any resume. Archer would also help if you choose the Bound Bow spell for regaining lomger range.

I recommend a Breton for the anti-magic bonus; one of the few races with a bonus that competes with the Orc. Had considered a Nord so that Onmund would have some company, but still unused thus far.

Based on my fading recollections, one gains the Imperial or Stormcloak invitation as you are departing Helgen in flames. This is your intro to both sides, and can be used to gain early impressions. No need to hurry; for example, simply hold on your decision until you have visited all the major holds for info. My recommendation though is to finalize this path before getting in too deep into the Main quests.

The Companions are a legendary group within Skyrim, so they are easily recommended when entering Whiterun. If you are curious, seek an interview, and see how that goes for you. The benefits of being a partial associate are worthwhile, even if you decide against becoming a full member of their inner Circle.

As for IG info, there are tons of books to read, as well as rumors and gossip galore. And much like RL, some of this is all bogus, so make your best guess for your chosen Dragonborn as to what paths to take. The wagon drivers outside of each major hold are among my best sources.

Finally, pls do not limit your current playthrough to a single trip mentality; far too much to see and do here. There is no real need to see it all thru a single pair of eyes; recommend using several.

@Elhanan

I'm grateful you took your time to answer my question :)

Another question, if you don't mind answering again, is: do you know if my personal character will always have magical powers (not including Shouts)? I ask that because I'm really looking forward to making a character that only uses two-handed swords.

AFAIK, all characters start with 100 Magika, and a couple of spells: Flames and Healing. If you do not want to use any magic, then save all the potions you see, and avoid Enchanting tables.

But in order to progress the main story, you will need to gain a Shout. If you wish to not use them, then restrict yourself to those times when one must be utilized.

Personally, while I like my Warrior and Rogue solutions, I do not often restrict myself for options other then morale choices. Besting a Mage with magic is as pleasing as winning an archery contest, or duel with swords, IMO.

@Elhanan

Thanks again :D

I just think it would be better for the role play aspect to know my character can't use magic. But, I can live with avoiding it as much as I can.

Visit the headquarters, talk to everyone there, nose around and observe small details like the books lying around.  The ones lying out in prominent places often have history of the area or that faction.  A lot of people in Skyrim have dialogue about the war.  Just talk to people.  There's no rush.  Skyrim is more about exploration than pushing through a bunch of quests as fast as you can.

@ Yrkoon- Pure mage is a good challenge.  I don't think any other build is as demanding.
